Figured I'd post about it here, even though I haven't given you guys much info about my Z. My mechanic was bringing it back to his shop today from the exhaust shop to do the tune up and dyno on my new Rebello built engine, and a lady in an SUV ran a red light and totaled my baby.

The good news is that nobody was hurt, there's a police report, and her insurance is covering EVERYTHING, and the engine survived, so atleast the heart of the beast that I spent way too much money on is going to find a new home. No pictures right now, but I'll post them up when I get them tomorrow.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO </3

Posted by: Nomake Wan May 16 2012, 09:24 PM
Man what the f**k is it with women in SUVs hitting these cars!? My 240Z got hit twice and both times it was some dumb woman in an SUV not paying any f**king attention.

There should be an extra, more rigorous driving test required to license anyone to drive an SUV. Because straight-up making it only female would be sexist or something, but the point is, women don't belong anywhere near an SUV. In my personal experience they just cause damage.

And it's not like they're safer, either! It's just ridiculous. Sorry for your loss but glad that insurance is fully covering the accident. So hopefully you'll find yourself another even better Z body and drop that delicious motor into it. This doesn't have to be a bad thing!

I mean hell, the two ladies who hit my 240Z paid for all the body work I was going to have done anyway. whistling.gif

Posted by: Benovelence May 16 2012, 09:45 PM
man...now thats unlucky for you panzer....women should've stick with MPV's,small K-Car and Hatchbacks and such..Just saying..

Posted by: The J May 16 2012, 10:32 PM
Uncanny. There was a yellow 240Z that got partly run over by a semi that the mechanic at Sunrise Z was driving to the paint place just a few months ago. There's something in the air man... fear2.gif

At least you have the engine.

Why not go the Devil Z route and bring her back from her coma? Would the insurance money be enough for that?

Posted by: PanzerAce May 16 2012, 11:09 PM
Because contrary to what the anime/manga would have you believe, once the body/frame is out of true, you're basically never going to get it to go right anymore.

I've got a '78 shell that I might swap parts into, I just need to figure a way to make a Rebello L30 pass smog first....

Though, TBH, depending on how much insurance pays out, I *might* be ditching the Z path for awhile and instead build a factory five Daytona replica.....

Oooooh Daytona! If you do go that route, I'll be eagerly waiting you're build thread. happy.gif

cuz u have no idea how shell & body works on a car, once they frame is damage u can never get it back to original form

so the car is goner & garages like to buy these cars & fix them up then sell so small town folks cuz they can make a quick buck off of it

I know how it works, it was simply the lack of details that gave me hope it'd be salvageable.

Man, what a way to go for such a Z. Not being sexist, but what's up with women and their SUVs these days? RIP to your Z.

Then again, you still have the engine. You still have that '78 shell to inherit the power... Good luck with your rebuilding, man.

You can't really tell in the last picture, but that tower is all kinds of bulged out from when the suspension tried to escape towards the engine.

Posted by: the unknown May 17 2012, 04:09 PM
That sucks man, im sorry to hear that...
I got my old legacy totaled by a kid in a Tahoe, SUV's can cause alot of damages...
Its good the the engine and everyone is safe...
These kind of idiots are the main reason i fitted metal bumpers, as people in Saudi tend to fully brake when they see a car accident 2km Away and decide to tweet and stare at it mad.gif ...
Stay safe man, and im sorry about ur loss ..

Oh man, looking at the damage to your Z was quite painful... good luck again to your Z rebuilding.

Posted by: Nomake Wan May 17 2012, 10:00 PM
Yep, that would be a total loss right there. That body'll never be the same.

Let us know when you've jumped into a new one!

That's the good news of this whole thing, we're going to be looking for a car that's MINT interior and exterior with a bad/stock/whatever engine.

The other good news is that my mechanic is THE guy for old nissans/datsuns/Zs specifically. He has customers driving in from Wisconsin to have him do work on their stuff. I know he'll help me get as much as possible out of the insurance company, and help me track down a new car. The Z forums and a bunch of my Z bros in other states have been really helpful as well.

We'll find a new car, we'll make it better, we have the technology.

Posted by: Nomake Wan May 18 2012, 12:18 AM
Sweet! When you do find it lemme know so I can drop by the shop for giggles. I'm living in Concord now which isn't that far away from ya. Even if it's just to oogle the Zs that would be worth it. happy.gif

Insurance is giving me just over 12k after I buy back the car. Already got a '72 in white with red interior in line for when I get the check.

Holy crap, 12k!? And here I was happy about getting 2k out of mine. Damn sweet deal! 12k buys a hell of a lot of Z these days!!

White one's a no go, decent amount of rot on the lower quarters.

I do have a line on a grandma-driven, one owner, 77k mile car....

I wonder even how much Devil Z's costs in Australia these days, considering we have this bullshit carbon tax and some anti-old-car-laws...

I wouldn't mind getting/salvage one and get my dad and his tuning mechanical friends and help me build a z... for general use..

Lol.

But that means no mt for me, doing my L's. saving up money...
Probs $5-6k if i save a shit load and mt about 10 games.. a month. lol

sorry to hear about your Z man,

either that or i go for an 86/SkylineR32 or Hakosuka..

Posted by: N643 Jun 10 2012, 09:11 AM
u have no idea how much a Hakosuka cost or how many of them are left do u lol

Posted by: PanzerAce Jun 11 2012, 11:25 PM

Posted by: PanzerAce Aug 7 2012, 08:52 PM
We outlawed rust in 1953 in California ohmy.gif

And don't worry, there are plenty of states where this'd be a pile of rust already.

Posted by: dragoon20005 Aug 7 2012, 09:09 PM
i wonder if my country cant import old cars as a whole

can we import the old car in pieces?

Posted by: PanzerAce Sep 24 2012, 06:03 PM
Yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyup.

It's pretty much all sorted out already. Just need to raise it a bit, finish setting up the suspension, switch the axles to CVs and the rear brakes to disks, touch up some of the paint, paint the engine bay and spoilers, and get my L30 into there.

Swung by the shop today. This sight made me choke up more than when I first saw the car after it'd been hit. Maybe it's just finally sinking in that the first car I ever owned is really dead crying2.gif

I ever wondered how a uber rich SG person ever maintains a 1955 300SL Gullwing based on a old Advertisment of Mercedes Benz (few years ago)

then again maybe a crapload of taxes and stuff just to let the rich guy keep it...

@Z topic...

seen the White Z.... sweet body, but the blue... is mader<BLEEP!>ing gorgeous laugh.gif

Posted by: S12 Drifter Mar 4 2013, 09:47 PM

I dont believe it's dead thats a lie.

the REAL question is how much money DO YOU want to sink into it? that car can be brought back and out on the street, FOR SURE!

my last Z jane, you guys saw the thread, well she was totaled by insurance the frame bucked, BUT it could have been fixed if i really wanted to...

honestly i really did want to but the frame work alone was going to run 4k+

Posted by: PanzerAce Mar 4 2013, 10:48 PM
Yeah, considering I bought the blue '72 for 9k, and just straightening the frame would have been 5k+....I ditched the '73. Not worth it to me.

Hahahaha. Sorry but when you can buy another one without frame damage for less than repairing frame damage, it's dead. laugh.gif
