I've never actually played the Wangan game on ps2 cause I live in America and dont have a japan regional coded ps2. But on the main page(index), under the download soundtrack section, I noticed under the Wangan Midnight Ps2 soundtrack the 12th song is *Free Traveling BGM*. Does that mean that u cruise the streets and highways looking for a race the way u do in Need for Speed series? That would be so badass if u did!

Once again Sunzabuto, please check what section you post your topics in. Next time you will recieve a verbal warning.

To answer your questions. Yes, In Wangan Midnight for the PS2 you do roam the streets a bit searching for other races. Im not sure how close it is to Need For Speed as I have never owned a copy myself but it is pretty close to any Tokyo Extreme Racer/Shutokou Battle game.

Sorry about that sir! I'll watch my posts. That Wangan game sounds badass!
I loved Tokyo Etreme racer and I loved the new game Import Tuner Challenge for 360 even more. If its like that but Wangan that sounds like an amazeing game!

Since Genki has made all the Tokyo Extreme Racer series and Wangan Midnight its pretty close. But Wangan Midnight for the PS2 is closely followed by a story.

For those who have played the original Wangan Midnight in the arcade, the PS2 version is a port of it.

When I get the chance I will take some pictures of the game.

The name of the song is "Hit it!" by Daiki Kasho. The song only appeared on the PS2 game. Not on any single or album.

Well the Wangan Midnight game for the PS2 is kinda like the Midnight R for the Arcades.. and it also looks like the Tokyo Extreme Racer games too..

But this game is really based on the Wangan Manga for me.. because they I think included almost everything even the Toll gates and the rules for you to win a race is by outrunning your opponent.. unlike in WMMT, you must get to the finish line first...

can someone upload a save of a complete game file?
I just feel like playing this game for fun...not really spend time on it

I"ve beaten the game. But it's so hard on the PS2 compared to the arcade. On the PS2 I used a JZA80 Supra, and every car beyond stage 3 is basically almost faster than you. When racing Reina and Asakura it was nearly impossible to win. How does a 280ps stock Supra race a 600ps+ S30? Go figure.

But after countless tries and lots of rubbing/blocking I finally won.

One thing about the "free traveling", yes it is like Shotoku Highway Battle 01, one of my all-time favorite racing games. However you have like a 20 second limit to find your next opponent (just like the arcade). If your time is up, it automatically forces you to race the next opponent ahead of you.

That is purely pointless. Because 1) you HAVE to race the opponent in front of you anyways, you can't avoid it, and 2) all it does is to make you feel your car for about 20 seconds before actually racing in a race.

Maximum Tune is SO MUCH of an improvement over the original Arcade.

unless you have a mod chip installed on your ps2...... or swap magic (I believe.... I don't have it, but people told me). you can play the game....
If you don't have that, don't think to buy it... since you will not be able to play it.

i recently got my game from mininova. Good thing i live near asia where all ps2s have mod chip

anyway did anyone else find the game so effin frustrating? In arcade mode cars are generally faster than you and I'm even stuck at mission 3. It almost impossible to gain 300km/h at the last straight duh. The traffic is also very since pedestrian cars are SOOOOO slow you'd bump into one when you blink.

Maximum tune was x10 way better than this one. I suggest you not import one , its not worth it

I've come very close to twisting my controller in two because of this game. The AI is just incredibly overpowered.

Sooooo many tries it took me to complete mission 3. Soooo many 295's, 296's, 297's. At one point I even covered the speedo over with tape on the tv screen just so I wouldn't be tempted to look as it was diverting my attention away from driving.

My suggestion is to be in 4th gear during the last stretch of tunnel. There are two yellow turns right before the end of the tunnel. Right after you exit the first turn (in 4th) upshift to 5th, then gun it. This will not only give you better control over not hitting the wall, but also allow you to maintain your exit speed through the corners. Maybe others have a better suggestion, but that worked for me. Staying in 5th through both those last tunnel turns I either lost control or lost too much speed to be able to reach 300K in time.

Wait'll you get to mission 8. You're in the R32 and you have to keep within 100m of the car in front of you. If you fall too far behind, you lose. If you pass him, you lose. The whole while he randomly breaks, guns it, slows down, crashes on purpose, ect. It's friggin crazy!

@draxxus666: Yes, Swap MAgic works with this game.

You have to beat the AC Scenario mode at least once with any normal car. After you beat it you unlock the Z in the "Character Car" section. If you play through again with the Z you'll unlock the Blackbird.

Unfortunately, no. After you complete the Mission Mode with everyone you unlock a tuning mode that allows you some upgrades, but they are pretty generic as I understand. I haven't gotten that far yet, but I'll let you know how substancial they are when I do.

ok i've been playing mission 3 for 2 days now. I dont mind being called a loser but the game is freaking hard! The max I reached is 289 and that's about it. Genki makes really low budget games I wished namco was held in charge of this.
