Nice, beautiful car. I downloaded a buncha wallpapers of this car from another magazine site, as well. Just need to get rid of those headlight covers...not a fan of them. But, at "only" 400hp it's not quite the monster the Devil Z was. What is the Devil Z's current hp in the manga? In Tokyo Xtreme Zero the Devil Z has like 1100hp, I know it can't be that high.

I dunno about that. I'm half for them, half against. I mean, they may not belong there, but at least they mould well to the body and decrease a certain amount of drag. At least with my MA70, the headlights route more air (kind of) to my CAI.

Still, that's one nice car. Now stroke that L28 to 3.1 and see what it does ;D

Sure, gimme a quick few and I'll put them up. Sorry about the size, the site had all the images one size, but then had one "actual" wallpaper that could be in 3 LARGE sizes.

Edit: Ok, here we go. The actual wallpaper is too big for photobucket, but it's still on the website anyways. It's not that good anyways, it's a rolling shot from the bottom side. Here these are tho, enjoy.

Austin Hoke's 240Z, a beautiful car, saw it two weeks ago at the SEZ shootout.

He had a 260 turbo before this one that was exceptional too but lost it to an accident.

He posts on hybridz.org as 240hoke if you want details on the car.

These Z cars usually have the BRE style spoiler on them, it's strange for me not to see one in the pics. Absolutely sexy car though, maybe my Z can look as good someday.

In the manga currently, the Z has around 650-700 HP, but you have to remember that the car itself doesn't rely soley on HP numbers alone and derives it's power from other "supernatural" sources.

I met hoke a while ago (nice guy). The "devil z" car was making a estimated 600bhp-750bhp. It had a twin turbo'd carburetor and stroked L6 engine from a 280zx (converted to carbs from EFI) to give a displacement of 3.1L - 3.2L (from 2.8). Reason why there hasn't been a "kit" for this in the US is because , they are left hand drive. The steering shaft will get in the way of the rear turbo.

Supposedly there are 7 or 8 of these cars running around japan. I can confirm of only 2 in Okinawa.

It is really tough in an L series engine to make those kinds of numbers, especially with a carb setup. My car has a 3.1 in it with a big single turbo and FI and it makes probabbly 400-450 but I spent more money than what I would have liked too on improving the flow of the motor which is a big weakness of the L series in stock form, I think I remember someone trying a Devil Z buildup a while back and it made like 570 at the wheels which is hitting the upper edge of these motors but you have to remember this thing was designed back in the late 60's and is a same side exhaust/intake setup not a crossflow like modern engines. Now if you had the OS Giken DOHC setup it would be different but their are only a few remaining in existence right now and no one will sell one or reproduce it, oh well I can always dream.

Key is the spark timing. Are you running a SAFC or the stoke efi? those wangan s30's are running a modded distributor with a boost retard setup. There was a old school maxima on the zero/yon (quarter mile) crowd running 1200 hp on a L28 block. Have to find the clip. High 7s quarter. Don't know the setup on that one.

Stock EFI with a Digital 6 MSD setup, I'm looking into a MS2 ECU for it and going to a DIS system later this year.

what engine? and year. The P79 off of the NA 280zx engine has the same chamber design as the P90 (turbo head) but higher compression. You're going to have trouble with the earlier head designs with pinging (knocking), inless you have some head work done. But if you are, I suggest going with the NA 280zx long block (long block is the same on NA and turbo versions, except the pistons have different rings and ring land designs) and a N42 head (early 280z, pre 1977).

I run a P90 head ported, stainless valves, ported, and bronze guides. The longblock is a N42 block, KA24 forged dome pistons, Nismo rods, LD28 crank, whole assembly is balanced. Intake side is a '77 EFI manifold extrude honed and a Q45 throttle body, exhaust is a turbo manifold also extrude honed. Turbo is .57 T3/T4 and a front mount off an Isuzu NQR truck. Runs about 10.5 to 1 with about 5psi. I dynoed it a while back at 447@7800 but its still a gutless wonder with only about 340ft/lbs of torque.

Hey, are you on hybridz?

First, have you seen Tim's latest dyno? 607hp on his stroked L28/N42 combo, on pump gas (no nitrous or methanol.)

I think the biggest limitation you're going to have is the stock intake manifold if you're trying to push past your current setup (which I would probably be completely happy with.) I'm using one of Thaggard's aluminum intakes but I'll probably switch to ITB's soon. That seems to be what all the 500+ hp L6 guys are using.

The other thing is that compression ratio - I'm sure with 10.5:1 you don't have any complaints about lag, but can you run pump gas with that? My friend's 10:1 ported N42 setup would ping unless he was running 98 octane...

Yeah I'm on HybridZ same name, I've thought about going to ITBs but with the cost involved it will probably stay the way it is, does your buddy run carbs or EFI? I guarantee I would have issues if the fuel injection on my car wasn't dialed in correctly or if I ran carbs, I run 93 through it without issue on a daily basis but on race day it gets a few gallons of cam2 to help it out. I haven't seen Tim's dyno sheet yet I'll make sure to peek at it later.
