I've been experimenting with my braking and the way I brake on WMMT2, recently. I usually use my right foot to accelerate and to brake, on a drift, but now I'm starting to use my left foot and the results in my drifts shows dramatically.
[Basing from the Time Attack on New Belt Line Clockwise] [Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec [BNR34] Color:Black Pearl] [780 hp /D] When I usually drift, I use my right foot to brake and then accelerate. I cannot estimate the timing (sec.)between the time that I lift my foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator (probably around a .XX), but it puts me on either the middle or the outside of the sharp curve during the drift.
Recently, I started using my left foot to brake and my right foot to accelerate to drift Civic style (I got that idea from Initial D DVD anime Volume 4, when Shingo showed up) and the results were outstanding. I was able to go from the outside or shoulder of the road, before the curve, and go to the inside of the curve. The timing this time was better than the last one (around .X).
I'm gonna try to make a video of me doing a time attack. I'll post it on YouTube and then put it on my profile on MySpace. I hope this helps (or anything else) anybody out.

Just my two cents worth, I've noticed that many of the pros here in the Philippines barely step on the brakes at all. All that they do is to lighten up on the accelerator a bit and let some rather fancy steering do the rest. Should they use the brakes, it's only on very extreme situations. I'm practicing that right now, trying to get it right...
So far, it's doing me wonders.

Your right, if your driving right you almost never brake, you just down shift. I cant even remember the last time I used the brake. Instead of brakeing in a turn, even red, down shift and either let off or tap the gas. Believe me, so much better then useing the brake.

To me it depends on what kind of turn it is. if its red I'll do down two gears to get a smooth drift, and have constant acceleration instead of lowering your RPM and getting a sluggish take off. If its yellow I'll go down 1 gear just in case of those damn Namco trucks are in the way. these have worked for me since the first Wangan, unless some cheap ass plays dirty and rams the hell out of you This post has been edited by Guy on Jun 2 2007, 12:18 PM

thank god its just a game..... most the cars would prolly understeer till the cows came home if running near 300ks an hr. Then again its just a game.... sure knowing a lil about cars does help u drive better but i personally prefer thrashing people at the local race track.... kinda helps when you have a 450hp tuned R33 to play with. anyways just my 2 cents and oh yes braking does help in the game when ur car isnt quite up to standard yet and you have red hairpins comming up... brake, shift, turn then gas. easy

QUOTE (xeoreg @ Jun 4 2007, 09:22 PM) | If you're TA'ing, most of the turns where you brake can be sustitued by walltap.
Heck, you're supposed to be full throttling C1 OB and NBLCCW.
In other places, it's usually a light tap on the brakes anyways, except for Suicide Left in C1 IB.

But don't you want to keep up your speed as much as possible while taking turns rather than killing that speed?
About Hakone: (Just to step out of the topic a little, first, I used to hate Hakone because I was an amature...)
I was told recently that I should keep the 4th gear as the maximum rather than my 6th gear. It helped a lot on how I drive in the mountains. And I believe that Namco put the brake there for beginners. I still use it just in case I need more control on my drift.
Oh, btw, I found my wallet, which was PACKED with tuner cards. It was beneath one of my shoes... AND it was beside my bedroom door!

I've had a chat with a few WMMT2 players that I know and all of them agreed that adding a clutch to the controls will be a drastic change in the way many of the players race. Though I'm not too sure how drastic the change will be, I'm pretty sure it will affect their play style one way or another (braking included). Then again, it would be interesting if a clutch is indeed included in the controls.

Well, yesterday I put $20 in the token machine (because $20= 80 tokens+40 free ones... it costs 4 tokens to play WMMT2) and started playing maxi tune and THIS time, instead of braking, I downshifted on a corner, released the accelerator for a secound, turned, hit the gas, and I'm off! Wow! Huge difference from the braking.
Now I'm able to take the corners easier than I usually could. I'm still having trouble with drifting the first and last corner on NBLCW ("Suicide Right" on the last), but I'm doing pretty good.
I got myself some secret cars, too:
Nissan Fairlady ZX [Z31]: DRIFT
Toyota Celsior: [no name]
Toyota Corolla: namco
Toyota HiAce: NAMCO
I don't care if you go all "whoop-de-doo" sarcasm, I enjoy them!
Oh, to answer your question about 4th gear/Hakone/straightaway:
From my experience, nobody has passed me.
