actually, from memory... the z31 has better handling than the 32 and 33... not terribly fast, but still a good car...

dressups WILL matter, but you'll only be able to see it if you TA seriously.

31 is fairly heavy, but not as heavy as some of the heavyweights in the game tho.

i see. thanks for the info.
yes. the handling is better than Z32 an Z33. and i think it even better than S30 too.

and i'll dress up my Z31 tomorrow. i hope i can add some grip... can you suggest what's the best dress for Z31?

thanks.

if you want grip... the general rule is 3dgt wing.. aero c...

but could be different for the 31, but i'm not too sure about that. only use the official machine...

HeyHey!! 1st post... apologies if I'm posting in the wrong bit, but "nissan thread" seemed relevant to my question happy.gif

I'm a total newbie to wmmt3 (bout a week or so?) .

Anyway, recently me and friend started, testing out several cars etc etc. Nothing out of the ordinary (..maybe it is ordinary, I'm here to ask.. turned.gif) happened until my friend started a fairlady z31... First stage of story mode, as expected from a newbie using a 230hp car... he didnt do so well. After a couple of losses and as soon as he got his first power upgrade to make the jump from 230hp -> 320hp, that all started to change dramatically. Let me illustrate the situation.

Me vs Him.

Me = 360hp supra (A80)
Him = 340hp z31

I get totally thrashed in handling (expected). But what I didnt expect was to beaten in speed even in the long straights, and by quite a noticable margin.

Even with the 20hp advantage, my friend was accelerating like no tomorrow, and reached a higher top speed than me.

At max if I remember correctly... I hit about 230km/h at 5th or 6th gears. He was doing about 244-248km/h with 5th gear.

Is this normal? everything in forums suggest that a z31 isn't the speediest of the bunch... and having trouble finding answers as practically everything here refers to 820hp beasts =.='' ....and ideas? blink.gif

You have boost on. with boost on even a stock Mitsu 3k GT on the Wangan will trade pole position with my R32 at 600hp and full grip. It's nothing special. Check the ACTUAL speed. You'll notice that even though his car is slower it will be outrunning you. Go boost off and Wangan line it and you'll get a more realistic idea of how your cars accelerate and maintain speed.

I thought it might've been that.... I'm still a little doubtful though.. he's still managing to hit 245+ consistantly in story mode on 340hp, and winning is a piece of cake. And on the same chapters I have to struggle with 225-230 =S

And I have checked the speed.... he is indeed going at a faster speed than I am... as shown on the speedometer D=

Check your corner exit. You may have a better car overall... but if you have few handling points or your exits suck and you are burning rubber scrubbing off speed, even a stock S30 will beat you on the long straight. The Z31 is a pretty neat and underrated Hakone and C1 car. I've only driven it once but it is a lot easier to nail the corner exit than in the Supra. Just FYI.

hey. i'm using Z31 too and it's usual. well, the Z31 (and other fairlady actually) runs like arrow in straight line, but the handling and the grip isn't very good. the supra is the opposite. the acceleration isn't very good but the handling is excellent. so i think, it isn't strange at all....

What you on about? Supra's top speed and accel smokes the Z31 anyday. Handling wise looses out a lot.

@ Lovecakes

Your hp doesn't matter in storymode. whether or not your car has less hp at the start, or whether or not you go full hp or handling first, it doesn't matter.
The computer is designed to go at YOUR speed. As long as you dont crash where it matters, you'll win.

The reason you're struggling to win, is either you don't have enough control of the car, or the fact that the Supra handles worse than the Z31.

Like The J said, in boost on battles, the guy behind gets boost. The further back, the more boost he gets. Its like a slingshot...

good for hakone the few times i've used it...

OM only though, and havent really seen a lot of people with it, but the OM is good enough for hakone, so i'd probably wont dress it up too much...

so any recommended dressups for this car? I still cant figure out wat it needs. mayb...

- aero kit A
- standard wing
- frp duct bonnet
- aero mirrors
- Rays 57F

increases acceleration speed, keeps it stuck to the ground and good lightweight wheels.

wat do you guys/gals think?

won't know till you try it, and different people will want different things.

If your friend is getting it and will dress it up fully, try it out as they come, and then compare and see what he likes.

I posted already in the QUESTIONS thread, but it was a bit disjointed - so let me clarify it under one roof.

I got a problem with setting up my Z33. Since the Z33 is a speed-over-handling (as opposed to the Z31 being the opposite and Z32 being a balanced mix), I had a theory to set it up with Set B, Ducted Bonnet, and GT3 wing. Theoretically, it should've balanced out - it actually did (with a slight speed deficiency) until I changed something last, which I think was the bonnet (couldn't be the 'new' better-performing Enkei RC-T4 wheels I put on). At that point, it kinda went to hell; on top of that, the loose wheel kinda exacerbated the problem so badly I couldn't find it. Ended up having to go to another arcade to finish tinkering.
What I'm trying to go for is something fast yet maneuverable enough. Basically, I tried to do the same thing I did with my WRX (Set A, GT3, and Type wing for a fast agile car).

I've driven my friend's S30 before. Gotta say that no red-bar's something that played hell with me. Something that I think might work:
I played with 6-gear cars (and they DO have a colored gauge), so I'm familiar with where the redline "pie slice" usually is at the end. I don't know if they're the same fraction of the guage, so I go for anything inside of 2:15 (looking at a clock). It worked for me with up-shifting, just that at first I had to do a mental overlay of where it might be. Can't really help with down-shifting, tho.

Coupla questions whose answers I think might prove helpful to others offering advice:
  • Is this your first one? If yes, disregard my suggestion at the top.
  • This is one you worked with from the ground up or from a discard?
  • If from the ground up, where (and how) on the gauge have you been shifting?
  • For either, did you just switch from Auto to Manual?
