Lol biggame

Yeah launching a V8 is tough too, I've run my buddy's built '89 Mustang coupe at the track, and even on drag radials it spins bad out of the hole. But it's easier to modulate the power on an NA, there's no boost going up and down as you feather the throttle. Granted most of my turbo experience is in fwd cars, but I've watched several turbo 240's going down the track w/ the same problem, bad wheelspin until 3rd.

Anyhow, we're hijacking your thread smile.gif So I'll leave this debate for another thread and just say, get some track vids! cool.gif

Lol, try launching a v8, there is no spool, there is no moderation, its just a wave of power that you cant shut off.

Traction is hopeless in first and most of the way through second, if i'm not on drag radials it will hook up just before the 3-4 shift and then you're off...

By this time the other car is usually a city block away and you're already doing something like eleventy billion miles per hour, and you suddenly realize that you need to back off or you'll be sent to prison for life. smile.gif

Its an experiance, torque...

Lol yeah im sure haha i know all about Torque believe me my car has loads of it, if it was a 5spd i wouldnt mind going from a dig i just hate having to wait for my slushbox to make up its mind, granted when it does most of the 5spd guys can shift as fast as it does but i still hate it.

bigamehit you made my day reading that, reminds me of that "NOS is like a hot chick with STD's you know you wanna hit it, but youre afriad of the consequences"

lol

V8's have LOADS OF TORQUE

one day i came out of school (like 2nd day i had the stang) and decided to nail it half way before i know it i almost spun the tires and i was redlining/ yellowlining LOL and this is in first gear laugh.gif

i was like O_O and then i let off the pedal... i wanna take her to the track so i can see what it feels like to really open her up all the way.

lol @ bullshit

I don't doubt you drive that domestic, latter-on-chassis boat, but I know you've never raced a GTR before.

Anyways, nice job scoring a Z28, a reasonably impressive car with a very agreeable price tag. I've had the opportunity to take the wheel of a Z28 much like yours. The acceleration from a stop is dramatic and mind blowing, however once you find yourself on some curvy back roads you really gotta slow it down. However some cheap aftermarket suspension work should clear that right up. What kind of suspension work have you/are you planning on having done?

A stockish R32 GTR is not that quick. It's quick or it's age.....but not compared to many newer cars. A stock new STi can take one out.

I drive a 32 practically everyday, i know.

Ya I own an R32 GTR and stock for stock the performance is much the same as a WRX STI, other than the fact that you're dealing with a 15 or so year old car that may not be running as well as it did new. On the other hand finding a stock R32 GTR is quite rare but that's not the point.

Mine's just mildly modded: Apexi intakes, Nismo downpipe, Kakimoto cat-back exhaust, boost restrictor removed, TS Dancer Torque splitter, Endless brake master cylinder and rotors, Bilstein suspension, Nismo control arms.

A lot of R32's I know are getting to the age where turbo's are going and engine rebuilds are common and they are being significantly upgraded when they are rebuilt. I have every intention of running upgraded turbos and stronger internals when the time comes for my car, but for now it's only got about 92,000 km's and it's running strong.

So I have no idea what that Z28 runs in the 1/4 but I just wanted to pipe in and agree that a stock STI is about on par with a stock R32 GTR that is running well.

Sorry for the somewhat off topic post.

that made no sense but meh..... im hungry

Best quote ever!

Well, now its my turn to jump into this conversation with JDMMA70, let me catch up here.

The Supra with have a better launch (If thats what you guys are talking about) because it has a turbo. The turbo needs to spool up before you receive peak horsepower. In that time it isnt spooled, you get traction quick and starts to roll forward to 10-15mph (depending on your turbo), then you get peak hp.

It really depends on tire conditions and driving experiance, but if both tires and driver were in great shape, the MA70 would out-launch the Z28.

^^Argue if you want, its true.

1. I did race a Blue RHD R32 at countyline dragway in miami, it really wasnt that impressive, i'm sure it was old, stock and tired though, not trashing the car in any way. I will confess that it is only one of two i have ever seen and i was rather exited to race it (i love the things), but was unimpressed by its performance.

2. "Latter-on-chassis"? I think you're implying the body style is old fashioned, belive me this is no old chevelle. Its a modern subframe with aftermarket shocks, stock springs (for now, but they work fine) and awesome brakes. I'm not claiming its a lotus or anything, but its never failed me in the corners, I drove an evolution and was just annoyed by the constant understeer in comparison *shakefist*

What i really need are subframe connectors, it will help my traction immensely. Maybe new swaybars as well... It depends on which direction i want to go, straight line performance or ability to turn, doing one kind of hurts the other.

biggrin.gif thats the word i was looking for.

Yes, every camaro and firebird made was a unibody.

Mine happens to be made almost entirally of fiberglass, not metal. So its not even as heavy as it could have been (for being an iron block, aluminum heads car)

WTF does latter-on-chassis mean anyway? Lol it's not a technical term I've ever heard biggrin.gif Later-model? Ladder-on-chassis?

But yeah, Camaros are no worse in the corners than say a 240sx or Mustang. Not if the suspension is in good shape, anyway.

shit man, i was gonna get a new k-member setup and control arms and go give that drifting crap a try. I can break them loose on command and the car is nice and tail happy, so i figured what the hell...

Imagine a 4th generation V8 camaro drifting near some corollas and 240SX's... w00t2.gif

I was wondering the same thing.

Hell, I don't even know what Ladder on Chassis would be. I know Body on frame, and ladder frames, but last I checked Ladder on Chassis wasn't a real term.

No yellow skylines, i'll keep an eye out. Still hoping to have a run with the new GT-R

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bOJBrefl-E

random WIP video put together by friends of mine, the song isnt the best and most of it is shot at night, but its a genuine picture of the current american car street racing "culture" (although i dont think anyone takes it as seriously as that makes it sound)

I figure since this whole forum is based around that kind of thing you might enjoy it.

edit: also a shot of a local 6.2L Turbo camaro. Usually the v8's and turbo cars are against eachother, but by our powers combined, we are captain planet! (i'm hoping for the same setup on my car)

Yeah, when you can't put it to the ground, like most domestics. laugh.gif

I got a buddy that drives a supercharged Cobra, he has the worst attitude in the world. He thinks his car can't lose, well. He got beat by a EJ8 Civic coupe turbo.

Long story short, he blamed it on traction.

That ain't an excuse, it's pointless to make all of that power if your car can't put it down. But in his defense. That EJ8 was fast as F**K.

By fast as F**K I mean, it had a 70 trim turbo pushing well over 30psi.
