Little question, why does my FD get beaten by everything off the line? It could possibly be my shift work, but it feels so sluggish when the race starts.

I think it has to do with the acceleration. A bit slow maybe? It happens to me too, but I'm not sure.

FD has slow acceleration from the start because of its transmission. 5-MT cars have longer gear ratio in think in the second gear than the second gear of a 6-MT car. FD has good acceleration overall.

I think it's to do with the gearing, I always see the boost go down and my speed stall when I'm shifting in the FD.

It thought it was strange because R33s and R32s and even other FDs out accelerate me as well. Also, is the RX8 classed as a heavy or light car? Because I see rammers use that car often. IRL the SE3P and FD3S are only 100 kgs difference max, but the FD here seems to be as light as an R2.

first, don't try and bring irl stats into this. because the rx8 should be slower by a mile if that was the case

r32's out accelerating you yeah probably, r33 is a little odd, are you sure the accel wasnt broken on your machine (seen it before where it'll only sense like 70% accel)

rx8 i'd say is mid-light weight

R32 accel has always been good, the rotaries dont have great accel either, so yeah no surprise

And its not that rammers use the rx8 because its a good ramming car, its just the car they happened to buy

There are craploads of reasons on why you were outrunned at the start

1. Opponents have better acceleration than you, sure... BNR32, E9 or even S30 might outrun you at the start
2. If you suspect shifting then probably you aren't shifting correctly thus sluggish in rotaries has a beep that warns you to shift up just not to let that beep take too long unless 5th gear
2b. Do remember too early or too late will not maximize your accel rate and if you feel why even the same FD opponent still outruns you that you shift timing is incorrect

If its battles then only answer is because of boost

How does boost system works? Unfortunately even after a decade of max tune only the producers have the answers to it and all we have are just speculations

For RX8, its a mid-light weight car with easy handling, balanced weight on car, 6 gear cars tend to accel better than 5 gear cars, good TA capability, slightly better than evos and good reason to bandwagon on it
FD is basically a 5 gear light weight RX8 but demands more precision

Apologies for sounding like a noob, so do I let the car in 2nd all the way till 180 KM/h to start 3rd pretty high, or should I shift immediately for traction? Or somewhere in the middle?

For all my 5-gear cars, I leave it in 2nd all the way until I hit 180 km/h, then I shift. Doesn't apply in Hakone though.
