Do you see the Earth as...

A Sphere

The earth is flat and it's supported on a tortoise's back. Don't ask what supports the tortoise, we're not supposed to know.

...

Lol kidding. But what is this really about?

Well it depends on which space you're looking on. If you look at it, for example on a piece of paper which is 2 dimensional (well not really) then it's a disk. But a sphere is a 3 dimensional object that can't be 2 dimensional (A cylinder can be two dimensional, just join both ends of a standard A4 paper and there you go, you get a cylinder. But try that on a sphere, it's impossible.). So it's a sphere when you look at it from a 3 dimensional space like in space lol.
Just doing my captain obvious here.

I was just reading an article about it and seeing that people still believe that the Earth is still flat.

So I thought it would make an interesting thread to make, for an discussion.

I don't get this thread.

It is a sphere. There is no debate on this?

Even the second pic that attempts to make it look flat still suggests the Earth has curve and is rounded off from the land. Note if you look in the centre of the picture then draw your eyes out from it, it aligns back into the center.

Annnnddd just to take the point home, a sphere has a light source and shadow. A circle does not. As per picture 1.

/thread.

A sphere is something that can be defined as a perfectly round geometrical object. Any point on the surface of a sphere would be the same distance from the center.

Now, setting aside any topographical features, the Earth is not perfectly round, the radius at the equator differs from the radius across the poles by ~21km.

The proper term would be oblate spheroid.

I was taught as a little boy that the earth and everything are just tiny strings vibrating in 26 dimensions.....:

I wonder who put those equations on wikipedia? A physicist? Or a mathematician? Or someone who read that on a book?

They're from Wikipedia on String theory. Don't be hatin, cause I can explain each one of those to you if you'd like ;). My fiance/ former physics/chemistry/egr math tutoree can vouch for that.

As for the articles I got those from, they are edited among others by a Ph.D. in Physics, who is a professor at Claremont Colleges and a Danish physics professor.

Yes, I can vouch for it but please don't. Phone conversations about string theory and 8-dim math = headache. XP

@topic - I've read that article a long time ago and even visited their website. I found their idea that NASA is a fake program and that there is a conspiracy to hide the fact that the world is flat laughable. If I remember correctly from my surveying classes, photos from space are not the only proof that the world is a spheroid. Empirical observations along the ground help determine the general shape of the earth. I'd have to dig through my notes for that one, but I of course disagree with the Flat Earth Society's views.

I trolled here for awhile posting random pictures in serious debates about how flat the earth is, the tortoise thing, the "Ice Wall" that is protected by every government on earth, etc. Have fun!

its not a prefect sphere because gravity compresses and retracts the earth as it does it orbiting and flying around space bs

so its more testicle shaped give or take.

Oblate Spheroid, posted it a couple posts up. The real reason is the rotation around its axis though.

Haha Captain Flanet. XD

Don't think anyone gets banned there, since everyone know Earth isn't flat in the first place. They look like they're having fun talking nonsense. Lol.
