Now a pet peeve of quite a few of forumers (me included) is when multiple members end up quoting an image and it ends up spammed all over a page in all its glory again and again.

Perry implemented an image tag removal feature on quote in IDW and things went pretty smoothly there. This makes it so we only see the link but not the image when a picture is quoted. Once can still manually change it if they think the picture is important enough to warrant reposting. I would like to see this feature brought to WME and have put this thread forward to hear your views on it.

And no polls- I want to see posts with fully formulated thoughts!

Well, that WILL save bandwidth.

I'm in for it.

Just going to the Random Pictures thread or Post your Automotive Shots get a bit tedious when trying to click on "Post Reply" or "Quote" because somebody quotes somebody's post that has a bunch of pics just irks me.

Saves people time and, maybe, money.

I don't think that saves bandwidth, since the same pictures are from the same URLs. They will just be shown repetitively, but won't affect bandwidth. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Saving bandwidth or not, the more important thing is that it's annoying to see the string of images over and over again on the same page, so this implementation is a good idea. But it really boils down to each forumers' ethics, imo, because quoted posts can still be edited at will so forumers can decide whether or not they want to exclude the images. It's just that this feature will automatically do so to make things easier.

The point being, this wouldn't be needed if we are responsible enough to exclude the images ourselves when quoting, yet there are those (whether noobs or not) who do quote the whole thing, making the feature necessary.

Though it is acceptable to quote one or two images that are not too lengthy/large in nature. biggrin.gif

saving bandwidth or not, it'll make threads easier to read. the BEST thing to do (though it might be a little more difficult) would be to have the quoted image reduced into a 160x120 thumbnail or something, but then that would require the server to fetch the original image and resize anyway so...yeah.
