Well for many years its been my dream to own one of 500 turboA's made, and of course being in the USA that makes thing a bit difficult. Even a couple of years from now and importing one will be possible, most of them will not be in the condition i would want them to be. I had a talk with a local muscle car restorer who had a beautiful 66 Shelby GT-350. When i spoke of my dream car to him he just asked me "So why dont you make one?" I had a "huh" moment for a second and replied "it will never be the same as the real thing" He took me into his garage and showed me another Shelby, a GT500 or so i thought. He told me that it was originally a 67 Fastback that he made a GT500 clone out of, and said "If i can do this you can make your dream car" So here we are I had specific things i wanted if i was going to make a clone of a turboA in LHD fashion, and such i wanted it as close to the original as i could possibly get. So to start I wanted a 88 turbo hardtop 5spd to start obviously. A local friend just happened to have what i was looking for a 88 turbo hardtop, we discussed me buying it off of him and agreed on $180 for the rolling shell. Not a bad start. Towed the car to my mothers place where i will be doing most of my work. The only mods the engine will receive is either a legit turboA CT26 or a 54 trim CT26, and a some sort of a speed density conversion whether it be OEM or aftermarket. The rest of the engine, intake, exhaust, intercooler will be bone stock. Reason for this is a turboA is one car i wouldnt be able to bring myself to modify even though this is a clone i still wouldnt have it any other way. This will be a restoration, so that also means long term project. Pics of how the car is starting out. The first order of business was removing the bits i will not be needing for this new project. So off comes the front bumper, turn signals, spoiler, taillights, trim. Sell those and start collecting 89+ parts. Once all the body parts are off the car, i will start prepping the car for paint. Should be fun as ive never done it before, but i have someone to help me whos experienced thank god. As for the interior, i want to save a little $$$ if i can. Is there any interior paint that matches the factory Medium Gray? I want to paint the paneling if i can and headliner. So yes tips on prepping for paint would be appreciated. I know some people are going to comment saying it wont be a real turboA but i dont care its something ive dreamt of owning why not make it my own. In my spare time im going to paint the sawblades black. Im confident now after re-spraying my 5 spokes. Heres a pic of my 5spokes i repainted myself. Should be fun cant wait to get started! Ive got my turboA parts list of what i need, what will be easy and hard to get.

Turbo A was the homologation car for Toyota, and to my knowledge only 500 were made it is possible more were made since 500 is also the number of cars required to meet for Grp. A
Since it was released in Early 1988 its got the updated 89+ facelift early. All cars were painted in Black, that particular black wasnt offered again until 91. Colour matched trim, Black Factory Wheels, Larger Intercooler, Oil Cooler, Throttle Body, Inlet Pipe, Metal Factory Airbox, Larger Turbo, Turn Signals were Darker than JDM turn signals which are darker already than USDM turn signals. Factory Yellow Foglamps, and Headlights. Momo Steering wheel and shift knob. All cars were hardtops, had grey interior leather. Manual adjustments on seats instead of power. The ECU was Map based so the car didnt utilize the AFM like on standard 7MGTE's. Brake Rotors had extra vents, the overflow tank was a 1JZ tank in order for the intercooler to fit. The turboA duct of course. Car also came standard with Potenza RE71's. Car put out 267hp and was the fastest Japanese production car until the R32 GTR made its debut.
