Citizens off WME, it has come to my attention that some of you have been receiving spambot PMs. Gratefully we have been excising them as they appear. We need your help. If possible, could people post names and circumstances of spam here since some people do not report flagrant pms and simply delete them. This allows the bot to remain rampant and that's not acceptable.

Thank you,
J

EDIT: Leily87 and Ugis87 flagged as spambots.

Banned members and guests aren't allowed to read it.

Nevermind; think I saw it when I went to the main forum page.

First that you were banned is not my f@$^@#$^g problem...

second off. Sorry, I think this one deals with the same situation and may be viewable. http://idforums.net/index.php?showtopic=41120

The information within essentially details the events of the spambot attacks through PM culminating in the termination and deletion of aforementioned abberrations.

Anyway, I've already posted a screen cap of the message, I got, on Random.

I didn't check out the site but I suspect a virus.

WME has been hit slightly more severe. 3700 members were spammed by this spambot. On IDW, 6700 members were hit, but consider IDW has 13000 members, 6700 is only half, whereas WME has only 5000 members, 3700 members out of 5000 is a bigger ratio. Either way, everything has been cleared up along with the new PM notification as well.

However, the Emails that were sent out can not be unsent. So I apologize in advanced for any troubles this may caused you.

Do a Google search this name and you will realize this Leily87 is a new bot that's going around: http://www.google.com/search?q=Leily87 Only 100 results so far, and we are one of the first couple hundred forums that are being hit on the Internet.

I will have you thinking that I think some members has been affected with this because in my PM Inbox, our regulars have been pm'ing me with the same message as to what Leily87 has said.

Usually spambots cant get into a forum if email verification is on. But nowadays, spam bots are getting more and more clever

Id suggest adding a secondary mandatory captcha to the registration such as:

a. name your favorite wangan maximum character?
b. which arcade do you play wangan maximum tune?

(favorite car wouldnt be a good idea, since the filter of car makes would be bypassed by the spam bot)

this way it could lessen the growing number of bots autoregging

Let's take those two examples into consideration. Quite a lot of people don't actually play the actual game. A lot of people joined this forum to talk about real automotive related activities.

Although that is a good idea.

Captcha when you send PM

smile.gif

Also for security, features, stability and more, upgrade to IPB 3.0 instead of 2

Just do a google "IPB 3.0 vs IPB 2.0"

There's a new EASY way to deploy it, and a VERY EASY way to register "Connect with Facebook" whistling.gif
wink2.gif

any more questions MSN/facebook me.
