Hello everyone,
This is my first fanfic for Wangan Midnight, it is set five years after the original story so there WILL NOT be any sightings of the Devil Z or Blackbird. I won't be doing any spec sheets unless specifically asked to do do so. Please leave a comment and constructive criticism.

Thanks, Silverwolf

Chapter 1: Seduction

November 2003, 12:54am.

Shuto expressway, Bayshore route.

A peach color sky and full moon played back drop to the Yamaguchi families arrival into Tokyo, moving from Germany they rode in a rented mini van down the expressway after an unbearably long flight. In the last row as far away from his parents nonsensical couple talk, Tezuka sat staring off into space.

This was the fifth country swap he'd been through in four years, new school, new friends, new house, the list if things he was not looking forward to ever present in his mind. Having just turned eighteen a week before the big move, he was especially pissed at not having his car by now, three years if driving school had just gone down the drain.

"Gonna have to go through the new kid bullshit again" with each passing thought his mood soured more and more. For his younger sister Kyoto this was a start to a new adventure but for Tezuka it was different, the novelty and excitement of it all had long since lost it's luster. Depressed he slid his earphones over his ears and pulled up his hood hoping to get lost in the sound of Metallica.

About three kilometers behind the Yamaguchi's rental a very infamous car merged into the expressway. It gave off a sinister aura, menacing in a blood colored paint, it was apparent to anyone who saw it. The driver leisurely cruised in the fast lane at 150km/h not even pushing it at all; then for no reason the beast roared to life, the enormous amount of power making the whole body press into the road as it seemed to jump from 150 to 250 km/h in a flash charging into the night.

Ahead, even over his music, Tezuka heard it; he snapped upright in his seat as the deep baritone sound reverberated through his soul. Pushing the headphones from his head he scanned the road.

About half a kilometer back he saw it, weaving through traffic with ease; by this time the rest if the occupants of the mini can had become aware of the sound. Now former U.S. Navy fighter pilot Ken Yamaguchi picked up on it first and watched in the mirrors as it approached at break neck speed. The exhaust shook the car windows and woke the sleeping Kyoto with a fright.

And just as it had come it disappeared just as fast just leaving the roar in it's wake.

The two men connected eyes and Ken could already seen the cogs turning in his sons mind, it was much like the first time he witnessed the speed of a fighter jet it had immediately ensnared his thoughts and dreams.

.:.:.

The next morning after only about three real hours of sleep an exhausted Tezuka climbed out of bed as nature called, his long chestnut colored hair covered his face which contributed to him walking face first into the door frame.

"Son of a. . ." He stopped short of finishing as he felt he was being watched. Flipping his hair back he was met by the sweet face of 6 year old Kyoto.

"Morning Oni-chan"

"Morning munchkin" Tezuka responded rubbing the top of her head playfully, "still practicing japanese huh?"

"Yeah Okasan said I can go to school tomorrow" Kyoto proclaimed happily as she followed Tezuka to the bathroom and stood at the door until he emerged again. "Umm. . Aniki I'm hungry."

Yawning Tezuka walked to the stairs stopping after two and allowing Kyoto to climb onto his back.

In the kitchen he sat her in her chair and went to the refrigerator, opening it he looked at the sparse ingredients inside. After a moment of contemplation he came up with a solution, "munchkin how about I make my special french toast?"

"Yahhhoooo" exclaimed the young girl bouncing in her seat. Tezuka put a pan on the stove to and gathered the bread; eggs; milk; cinnamon; and butter.

After the first few piece of french toast came off the stove the sound of movement could be heard at the stairs.

"Morning Mom, dad, want some french toast" asked Tezuka with his back to them. He was answer with a tired grunt from his father and "umm hmm" from his mother. After making everyones plate and giving Kyoto seconds, they all sat down to breakfast.

The meal was enjoyed in silence with sound of the forks on the plate adding a soundtrack. Asuma, Tezuka's mother, ate in small dainty bites while both Ken and Kyoto shoveled food in there mouths. Finished Ken broke the silence, "Tez finish up and get dressed your coming with me on some errands. We'll leave in about an hour maybe hour an a half."

Nodding Tezuka pushed the last few pieces on Kyoto's plate and set his in the sink before ascending the stairs.

The errands hadn't been very strenuous consisting of returning the rental, picking up the be family car then doing some grocery shopping. The reason he'd been asked trip come along was so they could heave one of those awkward father/son talks.

"Look son, I know you were particularly happy with having to move again" began Ken, "you've kept your displeasure to your-self and that was very mature of you for not adding more stress onto a already stressful position. To show my thanks after you get your license, which should be fairly easy we'll go see about getting you your own car."

Tezuka looked at his father in disbelief which made the older man smile. With a smile he dove headlong into the study book he'd been leisurely reading.

I like these kinds of stories, where the character's backstories are also given more detail and not just focus mainly on the driving and racing scenes, though I feel the first chapter could've been more.

This first chapter kinda feels like a prelude to the whole story. I think it would've helped if you gave us an overview of what the story would be about before the first chapter itself, because the impression the story leaves isn't that strong and not knowing what to expect would probably leave some readers uninterested.

I'm liking the concept though, and I hope you can update soon. happy.gif

Chapter 2: Ensnared

Tezuka's change in attitude was immediately apparent when he returned, the distant behavior hadn't but he was no longer walking around with a bad attitude. Asuma attributed this to something her husband had said to him but he refused to tell her what it was.

When they returned most of the furniture had been arranged, boxes sorted, and they'd set about cleaning. The house had previously been owned by a former Navy Rear Admiral who Keen had served under during the first gulf war. The Admiral had given the Yamaguchi's an amazing deal on the home since he was moving his family back to the states. Asuma being the clean freak she was had insisted in disinfecting the house.

This left the men to fend for themselves for lunch, Tezuka grabbed a few breakfast muffins, a chocolate bar and a pepsi before retreating to his room with the driving manual they'd picked up while out.

The room was pretty bare with a desk up against one wall with his bed diagonally across. There was one window and a closet; his boxes currently sat against the wall by the desk.

Flopping his body down into the office chair that accompanied the desk cracking open the manual. He bit a large chunk of blueberry muffin off chewing as he studied and after only 8 or 9 pages he realized that it was much the same as he'd studied in Germany, the difficulty he foresaw was having to drive on the other side of the road, but that would be rectified with practice.

With his concerns about the test lessened his mind turned to what car he'd get once he got the license. Before moving he'd been milking a Mercedes 190E or a Cosworth Escort but now the choices were different.

From one of his boxes he retrieved his laptop which he'd cocooned in bubble wrap.

Returning to his chair he booted up the machine chewing on the last of the muffins before reaching for the chocolate bar. Once booted Tezuka checked the house fire internet access happily finding that they had it. He then began searching for car listings.

Immersed in his search the hours posted without notice. Among the listed vehicles were many he was uninterested in, family swans and the like; then some had grainy, out of focus or far away pictures, do they too were discarded. Most of the candidates left were listed from dealers; the list included all the usual suspects Silvia's, Skylines, Evo's, etc.; plus a few unexpected gems.

The next morning after being up until 1am pouring over car lists a groggy Tezuka stumbled into the kitchen. He wore his new high schools uniform, shirt untucked and a bad case of bed head. He was met by his father and the smell of freshly brewed coffee. Sitting his bag on the table he got a mug from the cabinet then poured himself a cup.

"Morning son, ready for your first day if school"asked Ken who was up and dressed ready for his first day working at a local airport?

"Morning pops, I'm not even worried about it anymore"answer Tezuka pouring sugar and milk into the cup, "just wished I'd gotten a bit more sleep."

"Up late looking at cars?"

"How'd you know" asked Tezuka through a yawn?

"Came to check on you a few times but you were to occupied to notice, anything I'd be interested in?"

"Hmmm. .there was a pretty nice FB RX-7" spoke Tezuka as he trolled his cup grabbed a muffin and say down at the table.

"Details"

"84' GSL-SE" reported Tezuka between bites, "un-molested, 96,000+ miles, and the price its reasonable."

"That depends on what you think us reasonable" quipped Ken.

"625,000 yen"

This gain a whistle from Ken, "wheres the dealer located?" Its was obvious that he was interested in the car now.

"Actually it's local Sunny rise auto run by. . ."

"Nobuhiro Ota" finished Ken, "damn that old man is still alive and kicking."

Tezuka was confused at the strange smile on his fathers face, "so you know him?"

"Huh, yeah when I got stationed here about twenty or so years ago old man Nobu, who was already ancient then, sold me my first car" explained Ken with a dreamy look in his eyes sad he reflected on the past, "man I loved that car."

"Maybe we should go over to his dealership, most of the choices a narrowed it down to are there" suggested Tezuka.

"Yeah maybe even today after work"

"I'll meet you there" asked Tezuka eagerly?

"Yeah around five"

Being dropped off at school was extremely embarrassing as Asuma fussed over everything and even went as far as to make a big deal about his first day. Weaving through the crowd with his head down Tezuka was happy when he finally entered the main building, he got a few strange looks from students as he stood in the hall lost.

A tap on the shoulder made Tezuka turn around, he was faced by two guys about his age; one was a full head shorter then him, with a buzz cut and the makings of what one day could be considered a mustache, and the other stood about the same height he had curly hair about shoulder length with square glasses.

"You new around here or something, you look lost"asked the tall one?

"Uh, yeah I'm looking for the main office, could you tell me where it is" asked Tezuka?

"Sure, it's just this way" answered the tall I've leading the way, the short guy just seemed to tag a long. After a few turns Tezuka wad led into the office.

"Thanks man I'm good now, by the way names Yamaguchi Tezuka" spoke Tezuka holding out his right hand.

"No problem, I'm Watanbe Takeo" replied Takeo shaking Tezuka's hand, "and this is my friend. . ."

"I can speak for myself, I'm Miyake Akira" glaring at Takeo while shaking Tezuka's hand, "and no it's not a girls name."

This made Tezuka furrow his brow in confused but he simply shrugged it off then entered the office. The other hurried off to homeroom as the bell rang.

After introducing himself to the secratary and explaining his situation Tezuka was printed out a class listing and then escorted to his homeroom class. After knocking the woman spoke with instructor another woman while Tezuka looking over the class. In the back he saw Takeo and Akira, but before he was introduced to the Teacher then the class.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Ito Hisae, I'll be your homeroom teacher"spoke the woman, she was about as short as his mother with long brown hair and a disarming smile.

"Nice to meet you also I'm Yamaguchi Tezuka" spoke Tezuka with a polite bow. She then addressed the class, "everyone this is Yamaguchi Tezuka, he just transferred here all the way from germany." After introducing himself too the class he was finally allowed to take a seat, he chose the one in the back near the people he'd already met.

Surprisingly enough they had practically the same schedule and once Akira saw the Drift Tengoku magazine in his bag the discussion began.

Now at lunch they sat a long the edge of the cafeteria arguing about which car manufacturer had made the influential mark on motorsports in the 90's.

"Man you both are insane, it can't be anyone but Mazda" argued Akira, it had come apparent early on that he was a die heart rotary fanatic, "I mean the FC was already incredible on track or on the street and then they made the FD which was in my opinion the best sports car in the works in the 90's"

"Oh come on Akira it's Honda, on the track out in the streets the NSX is best" countered Takeo, "it's a super car for crying it loud."

Tezuka though he felt no allegiance to any one maker jumped in with his two cents, "your both wrong it's can only be one company, Nissan." This made the other to throw there hands up in frustration, which made Tezuka laugh.

"Hey guys on another note I have a question, what's the street scene like around here" asked Tezuka, both young men stared back confused.

"You looking to race our something" asked Akira with a raised eyebrow?

"Nah I just saw a car in the expressway the other might and I was wondering"

"A car, what car" inquired Takeo?

"A blood red A80 Supra, I think" recounted Tezuka thinking that they both were acting weird.

A mulling it over for a moment they spoke in unison, "Harbinger." They let the word hang in the air, leaving Tezuka in suspense, even a few guys from the next table over took interest in the conversation.

"Who the is Harbinger, is he famous or something" asked a confused Tezuka?

"She. . .is more than famous man, she's legendary" answered Akira his voice rising with his excitement.

"Okay let me start from the beginning" started Takeo, at this point the other guys simply decided to join them at the table.

"Okay it starts with the Devil Z and the Blackbird" began Takeo receiving approving nods from Akira and the other guys.

"Devil Z. . .Blackbird. .what the hells that gotta. . ."

"We'll get to Harbinger in a moment" reassured Takeo, "the Devil Z was a S30 Fairlady Z that was modified by the tuner from hell, Kitami Jun, L28 swap stroked to 3.0L plus twin turbos it pushed over 600+ BHP. But it had teeth, killed the first driver and nearly killed the second and third. But the last one tamed the beast and with it ruled the streets. RUF 964; Testarossa; R32, 33, and 34; Evo; A80 Supra; FC; Z31; all bowed before the Devil Z.

"Well what about this blackbird person" asked Tezuka entranced by the story?

"Blackbird was the Z's only true equal, a kingin it's own right, they went at countless times to the point that the 964 Porsche ended up with over 700 BHP and a nearly completely carbon fiber body. Also tuned by Kitami Jun it was epic and its driver also rivaled the Z driver in skill" regaled Takeo to the circle of men, "they're the reason the scene is what it is today, Harbinger is just another soul effected by there tidal wave."

"Yeah, after the legends faded from the scene the kingdom was run by the jesters" continued Akira picking up the baton, "bunch of posers in FF's claiming the thrown and then one day we were saved from the horror by the beautiful Harbinger."

"Not just her, theres the Baron and Outlaw to" added a guy to Tezuka's left.

"Yeah them too but she's the empress of the Wangan without a doubt" spoke Akira with Takeo nodding his head in agreement, "and that A80 is basically a deadly weapon on the road, we're takin close to four digit BHP."

At that point the bell rang ending the discussion but not before Akira added, "if you really wana know why not come out wit us tonight?"

"Yeah you can ride with me" offered Takeo, "meet us here around 9:30."

Nice second chapter there, I can't wait to see what happens next. happy.gif

The female driver of the Harbinger and how the story of the Z and Blackbird influenced the current generation really interests me. That and I really like the car choice for Tezuka, the SA22C is a gem among the classic rotary rockets.

Hope you update soon! happy.gif
