Hi, i just thought i will try my hand at writing WM fanfiction. i'm no English major, so forgive me if it sounds corny and cheesy

I will be putting in other members of this forum in as i go along. Comments and brickbats are welcome

here's Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Location: Somewhere in the Metropolitan Tokyo area

A row of cars sat parked in the deserted carpark, their paintwork shining under the glare of the nearby street lamps, dew forming on their fenders as the night wore on and the temperature dropped. Among them were couple of Lancer Evolutions, two Imprezas, an R32 and a Supra. But the one that was stood out from the rest was an R34, its Millennium Jade colour denoting it as a rare R34 V-spec II Nur variant. Except for the bronze Volks TE37 rims it had, it looked about as stock as it was when it rolled off Nissan’s factory floor, a sharp contrast to the heavily kitted and decaled cars around it

Their owners were nearby, huddled around a barrel with a fire as they chain-smoked cigarettes and swapped the latest gossip, news and rumors. Among them was Tetsuo Amura, the owner of the R34 and the leader of the Wangan Dragons, one of the most renowned and feared teams in the Metropolitan Tokyo area. He looked on with his stern, chiselled face as his men were laughing away at a joke they had just heard, the lit cigarette in his mouth glowing as it burned away.
“Hey Tetsuo, i heard you took on Sonoda and the R200 Club last week and gave them a good spanking in the Yokohama area...” One of the men said as he turned his head to look at his boss.

“Ah yes...” Tetsuo broke into a smile as he blew out a cloud of cigarette smoke, “Turns out that bunch of useless f**ks from the R200 Club are only good in a goddamn straight line. Once I turned into Yokohama after the Wangan line, I totally blew them away. You should have seen how pathetic they were, desperately trying to keep up with my R34...”

As Tetsuo was about to continue with his tale however, a growl from an engine filled the air and got everyone’s attention as a black shape headed down the road and turned into the carpark itself. It pulled up right in front of the group and as the illumination from the street lamps glistened on it, Tetsuo recognised it as a very normal-looking Volkwagen Jetta MKV, but something about it felt odd to him. For one, the deep, bassy drone coming from under the bonnet definitely did not sound like the small-cc 1.4 litre engine that it was supposed to have. Another thing that stood out were the 18-inch VW Detroit rims and the wide-profile semi-slick tires that encased them.

The driver’s door opened, and out stepped a tall, serious-looking man, with dark brown hair and a weathered face that looked as though it has seen and gone through a life full of trials and tribulations. The man took a glance at the group, and then walked up to Tetsuo.

“Tetsuo Amura?” the stranger said as he looked up and into Tetsuo’s eyes. “Of the Wangan Dragons?”

“That will be me...” Tetsuo replied “Who are you, and what brings you here?”

“My name is Soran Yodama...” the man said as he pointed a finger at him “...and i’m here to challenge you to a battle on the Shuto Expressway.”

“Look, kid....” Tetsuo laughed as he flicked his cigarette to the ground “Last i checked, April Fool’s Day is a long way off. If you had turned up in a Supra or a GT-R, i MIGHT be amused enough to entertain you. Instead, you turn up in a piece of grocery-hauling junk made in Mexico by a bunch of minimum-wage junkies. Go home and don’t waste my time...”

One of Tetsuo’s men leaned over to his left ear and whispered something into it. His eyes lit up as he listened to what he had to say, regarding some of the gossip that was flying around. He then turned his head back to Soran, his eyes narrowed and pointing like daggers at him.

“So...” Tetsuo sneered. “You are the one that the rumours say has been going around, betting with his car. You are a cruel man, aren’t you? You dispossessed my good friend, Hayato of his S15 last week and i presume you are now here to try your luck with my R34...”

“Heh, try my luck?” Soran said with a chuckle “More like in my opinion, your R34 Nur deserves a better owner...”

“Why, you impudent, arrogant upstart!!” Tetsuo bellowed as he charged forward, his teammates quicky grabbing his arms to hold him back “Where do you want to die??!!”

“Since i heard that you are such a fearsome opponent on the Wangan Line, why not this? The New Belt Line route, clockwise starting from the Kiba ramp. We take the U-turn back towards C1 after the tunnel, and the first man back to Kiba wins...”

“So be it...” Tetsuo fumed, venom dripping from his tone. “And when i’m done with you, i’m going to take your Jetta, send it to the f**king crusher and incinerate the remains!! And then i’m going to put it up on Youtube as a warning to your next ten generations not to f**k with me!!!”

“We shall see...see you at the Kiba ramp....” Soran replied with a crooked smile on his face as he opened the Jetta’s driver’s door and climbed back in...

RE: DRIVER PROFILES IN THE TOKYO STREET-RACING SCENE
Your request for the profiles of the well-known street racers in the Tokyo Metropolitan area was not an easy one to fulfil. Many of them are no stranger to living a double life, respected citizens in the day and hell-raising racers in the night. Nevertheless, we have done what we can, and here is the first of what we hope will be many profiles that will help you along in your objectives

Name: Soran Yodama
Occupation: Used-car dealer
Age: 30
Car: Volkswagen Jetta MKV
Known mods:

3.2 litre VR6 engine swap
Bolt-on twin turbochargers
Haldex 4WD drivetrain conversion
6-speed heavy-duty wet-clutch DSG transmission
Approx HP: 550BHP

Soran’s past and background is mostly a mystery, even to many of those familiar with the local racing scene. His birth certificate lists his father as UNKNOWN, but the colour of his hair indicates a high probability of a foreigner, probably a Caucasian. There have been rumours that he was involved with the Tokyo underworld in his younger days, but on the surface he seems to be mostly content running his used-car business nowadays and keeping his nose clean for the most part.

His car itself is also somewhat of an enigma to conventional wisdom about car tuning. From what our sources tell us, the Jetta started life as a 1.4 litre twincharged model with 160hp. That has been removed and replaced with a 3.2 litre VR6 from a VW Golf R32, with twin turbochargers feeding air into it. The Haldex system, also from an R32 turns the car from front-wheel drive to a 4WD machine, allowing it to feed traction to the rear wheels whenever it is needed. Finally,  the 7-speed dry-clutch DSG transmission has been removed and replaced with a 6-speed wet-clutch variant with a much higher torque limit, to handle all that power going to the 4 wheels.

"Soran Yamada"

I assume that you're writing this based on your experiences in life? Or are you simply making yourself a character in a story?

Either way, I guess you're off to a good start. I'm not a big fan of referencing things from WM or any other related story, but that's just me nitpicking. smile.gif

Chapter 2

Soran eased back in the driver’s seat of the Jetta, listening to the latest album by the J-pop group Perfume on the audio system. The Jetta was parked on the road shoulder at the Kiba Ramp area, its hazard lights blinking away and the VR6 engine under its hood rumbling as it idled. The red needle on the boost gauge mounted on the dashboard pointed to -50 kPa, contrasting with the blue markings on the dial. Next to it, a digital display indicating water and oil temperature showed them hovering at around 85 to 90 degrees Celsius. In short, all was well as he waited for the arrival of Tetsuo’s R34.

I might as well test that thing out. Something tells me i’m going to need all the help i can get... Soran mused to himself, as he opened the centre compartment and fished out what looked to be a pair of thick visors. As he put them on however, he used his left hand to feel for something on the left hook, and found a tiny button. When he depressed it, rows of green text started scrolling across the screen in quick succession, with a female voice reading them out as they appeared.

BLUETOOTH CONNECTION TO OBD ONLINE
GPS LINKUP ONLINE
SATELLITE TRACKING ONLINE
ALL SYSTEMS NOMINAL

“Computer...plot course for New Belt Line Clockwise, pattern Alpha-3” Soran said as he took a glance in his rear-view mirror. Meanwhile, the computer acknowledged the commanded and started displaying a map of the New Belt Line CW route that U-turned after the tunnel and back towards C1. Also, a green line appeared to be superimposed on the road surface itself, indicating the optimal lining to take for the route.

There was a pair of headlights in the distance which were closing in. At first it was too far to visually tell what they were, but the roar of an RB26DETT echoing around the walls of the highway left no doubt as to what it was. Sure enough, the unmistakable shape of an R34 Nur shot past Soran’s Jetta, its Millennium Jade body shining under the bright lights of the highway. The visor placed a visual tag on it, indicating its current speed.

Soran quickly reached his right hand down towards the gear knob, shifted it from P to D, and then threw it to the right to switch the transmission to manual mode before stepping on the accelerator. The front tires squealed for a moment as they fought for traction on the asphalt, before the differential shoved more power to the rear. With smoke rising from the tires, the Jetta took off in pursuit of the R34 as they both approached a sharp right-hand turn, one which most novices tend to swing wide and leave an opening for an early overtake.

Tetsuo however was not going to commit that mistake, cutting the apex of that right-hander almost to the point of touching the wall, then he quickly counter-steered to clear the subsequent banking left, almost in a straight line and very close to the lining shown on Soran’s visor.

He knows the Shutoku area almost like the back of his hands, being a veteran. This is not going to be easy... Soran mused as he continued to tail the R34 through the Shiohama area, with traffic getting heavier as they sped along. He’s probably got about 600 to 650 horsepower under that hood. Attempting to match him on the straights is going to be suicide...

Both cars were soon approaching a banking right turn, with a Hiace van occupying the right lane. In front, the R34’s brake lights lit up as Tetsuo braked for the turn, going into the left lane to overtake the van. The visor that Soran was wearing however, was showing a green line between the van and the inside right wall of the turn.

Is it telling me that there is enough clearance for me to pass the van and take an inner line? But if this thing is wrong, i’m going to end up as a pile of scrap metal. Should I?

Only way to find out... Soran made up his mind, steeling his nerves to gun the throttle and dive into the gap. His focus was all on keeping the Jetta away from both the van and the wall as it inched past them. He got a little bit too close to the wall though, which resulted in the right mirror scratching the wall and leaving behind a trail of black paint.

The gambit turned out to be a success however, as the Jetta shot past the van and then got in front of it, side by side with the R34 which had just cleared the turn on the outside lane....

---------------------------------------------------------------------

“WHAT THE F**K???!!” Tetsuo was screaming as he realised that the Jetta had just managed to pull up on his right. In a rage, he shifted up and stepped back on the accelerator pedal, the boost reading on the central display climbing as the RB26DETT’s twin turbochargers spun up and shoved more air into the engine.

So....you took the gap between the van and the wall. You f**king crazy maniac, now i see why Hayato lost his S15 to you. But if you think i’m going to let you capitalise on it, you’re sadly mistaken...

The R34 was charging forward to inch away from the Jetta, using the sheer horsepower of its turbocharged inline-6 engine. The Jetta’s VR6 meanwhile was also doing its best to keep it neck to neck with the R34, but it was clearly a losing battle as the R34 soon managed to get one car length in front of it and moved into the right lane to block it off.

Both cars were soon approaching the 90-degrees right-hand turn that led to the Wangan line. Tetsuo slammed on the brakes and shifted down, while flicking the steering wheel to make the turn. The R34’s tires squealed as they fought for traction on the hard asphalt....

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dammit!! Soran gritted his teeth, disappointed that the hair-raising maneuver he had just done did not work out as he expected. Still, the match is only just beginning and the night is still young...

In front of him, the R34’s brake lights lit up as it slowed down for the turn. It then began a powerslide with its rear tires churning out smoke, pointing its nose towards the inside of the turn to block off any attempt by the Jetta to overtake him at this critical juncture.

He’s on guard, and he’s getting frustrated...good... Soran mused as he elected to just follow being the R34 as it charged downwards towards the Wangan line But why do i feel that something is not quite right here....

The R34 and the Jetta soon got down from the ramp and were now on the infamous Wangan line itself, known as a place where speed is everything. In the Jetta, the digital speedometer soon was reading 280km/h and rising, the tachometer climbing towards the red zone as well. The R34 itself was also doing the same, the loud roar of its RB26 mixing together with the Jetta’s VR6 to create an orchestra of automotive opera

In his rear view mirror, Soran noticed two set of headlights behind them, fast approaching from the direction of Narita. As they got closer, he soon recognised one of them as the Supra from the parking lot which belong to one of Tetsuo’s men. Following right behind it however was a car which was as unmistakable as it was loud, both visually and aurally. It was a Mitsubishi Starion, painted in lime green with flame decals on its top and its sides.

So Cabbie decided to join the party. This should be fun...

QUOTE
Name: Cabbie
Occupation: Japanese AV Producer/Director
Age: 28
Car: Mitsubishi Starion GSR-VR

Known mods:

2.0 litre 4G63 turbo engine swap
Rally-spec gearbox with straight-cut gears

Approx HP: 500HP

As a young boy of his generation, Cabbie grew up watching some of the early Jackie Chan movies, such as Cannonball Run. It was a scene in the sequel however that would remain etched in his mind. In it, Jackie Chan and Arnold were being pursued by the cops, in a black Mitsubishi Starion filled with all manners of ridiculous equipment such as a rear-mounted rocket booster, submarine propellors and the ability to spit out garbage and oil from its ass. Cabbie was entralled by it, and swore two things: That one day he will be in the film industry so that he could work alongside his idol, and that he will also be drive a Starion when he got old enough to drive.

As life will have it, fate works in strange ways. He did eventually find his way into the film industry, but instead of doing kungfu action movies, he ended up making a career out of recording and distributing movies that chronicled bedroom action scenes of all types and sizes. Still, he has amassed quite a fortune out of being the owner of several enterprises in this industry, which includes the renowned Japanese AV Internet pay-per-view channel, JPornTube.

Although he has several cars in his collection over the years, one that receives special care and attention from him is the lime-green Mitsubishi Starion that he rescued from a junkyard when its previous owner wanted nothing more to do with it. Using his resources, he managed to source for top-quality aftermarket parts to turn it from a ordinary coupe to a pocket rocket capable of embarassing more modern machines. The original 2.6 litre 4G54B inside it was beyond repair, so it was removed and replaced with a 4G63T from a wrecked Lancer Evolution IX. To handle the increased power output, the stock gearbox was replaced with one that incorporated straight-cut gears more suited for a rally car rather than a street-legal machine. The machine is also decorated with flame decals, including one that runs along the length of the roof and down the rear window louves which he installed because they give the car the "1980s" looks.

Soran barely had time to comprehend how things had escalated, when his central consoled flashed with Cabbie’s number on it, indicating an incoming call. As he kept his eyes on the R34 which was now trying its hardest to pull ahead, he pressed the button on the steering wheel to answer the phone.

“Soran, Soran Soran....” Cabbie’s voiced echoed in the cabin “I booked the most exclusive hostess club for the night, snagged all of their top girls for a night of partying and debauchery, and what do i find you doing instead? Finding trouble on the Wangan. Sheesh, no wonder everyone says you must be gay...”

“Oh shut up...” Soran answered as he slid into a gap between a van and the left wall “What brings you here anyway?”

“After you forgot to show up at the club, i figured you must be out here disturbing the Dragons. I followed these guys out from the carpark where they proceeded to split up, so i decided to tail this Supra. Guess it might lead me to you and i’m right. Now if you’ll excuse me, let me see if i can rile him up a bit...”

The Starion accelerated and moved up to the left of the Supra, the loud wail of its transmission filling the air. Cabbie then wound down his window and with a sneer on his face, gave the one-finger salute to the Supra. As he wound his window back up, he stepped on the gas and pulled in front of the Supra, tapping lightly on the brakes as well.

The continuous taunting had the desired effect, as the Supra gunned the 3-litre inline-6 under its hood in hot pursuit. It soon became a furious game of cat and mouse, the Supra chasing the Starion like a predator chasing its prey. The Starion accelerated even more, with Soran’s visor telling him that it was going in excess of 300km/h, an impressive feat even for a 4G63 engine

Cabbie must be having a fun time, handling such a small car at that speed... Soran mused as he kept his attention on the R34, which was now speeding straight towards the section where the Daiba ramps leading from the Rainbow Bridge were. The traffic was getting quite heavy, with all manners of vehicles in every lane, forcing the R34 to furiously switch lanes to get ahead.

So, the traffic is also keeping him from using his horsepower to pull away... He deduced, following the green line that the visor had plotted through the traffic . He steered the Jetta to the right to avoid a truck on that lane, only to find himself face to face with the back of a car. As he slammed on the brakes to avoid a mating session with it, the line in the visor quickly shifted to a path that took him back in front of that truck again. As he did so, the truck driver mashed his horn, the sound of it echoing throughout the highway

That...was too damn close. If my reflexes weren’t so damn good, i’ll be right up to my face with car parts now... Soran heaved a sigh of relief, as he took a moment to turn his head to see what Cabbie was up to.

“Cabbie, you are not going to do what i think you are going to do, right?” He screamed as he saw the Starion head towards a pair of container trucks, which were right alongside each other “Aw f**k...you really are going to do THAT??!!”

“Come, come, come, let’s play a game of chicken in traffic!!” Cabbie yelped as the Starion dived into the small gap between the truck, daring the Supra to come after him. Sure enough, it took the bait, its driver steeling himself as he followed the Starion in. It was not long before the Starion emerged from the gap, its engine revving up as Cabbie shifted down to accelerate. What happened next was as unbelievable as it was unexpected.

The driver in the container truck on the left panicked and slammed on his brakes, the sound of pneumatic brakes filling the air. The sudden deceleration, combined with the inertia of the heavy container it was hauling, caused it to veer towards the other truck. Unfortunately as this was happening, the Supra had the misfortune of being right between them.

The finest in Toyota’s engineering soon proved to be no match for 10 tonnes of container truck, as it crumpled like paper under the force of the impact, the sound of metal being crushed filling the air. As the two trucks collided, Supra parts started spewing out from the sides of the trucks, some even getting flung up into the air. Among one of the pieces was the engine block of the Supra’s 2JZ-GTE, which flew upwards in a arc and landed right onto the hood of a Corolla which was just going about its business, causing it to spin 180 degrees before coming to a screeching halt.

“Game of chicken.... Starion: 1. Supra: 0!!” Cabbie yelled in triumph, his voice sounding crackled over the speakers as he pulled up alongside Soran’s Jetta “Now let’s go hunt down the R34, shall we?”

“Save it Cabbie, i want the car intact!!” Soran yelled as he turned his attention back onto the R34. As they shot past the Daiba section however, he noticed two more headlights exiting from the ramp at high speeds. The visor tagged them as the R32 and one of the LanEvos from Tetsuo’s team, an Evolution IX

Aw f**k, shit just got more complicated Soran swore, as they approached the downward section that led into the tunnel...
