WME's been flooded with spambots lately. Nearly 70 of them came, with maybe a dozen running amok, posting God knows what in our beloved forum.

What concerns me is that there seems to be pretty much zero moderator presence during the attack. Of course I'm not going to blame the entire staff - from what I can see, they are busy with their lives for the most part.

I am going to request a new member to the team. Someone active in the forums to work in the behalf of the current mod team. Preferably someone within or nearby my timezone (I live in GMT+8).

And I'll repeat: someone active in the forums. Active enough to visit the site everyday.

Why, you may ask? A single moderator is the difference between being safe and being overrun. Situations can be relieved, if not avoided entirely, if there is at least one staff member doing his job. I don't know what else happens to the forum in the near future but it helps to be prepared and have the staff ready at all times.

Who will be joining the ranks? I'll leave that to founder-sama E86 to decide.

I am not making a big deal out of the attack- it is already a big deal by itself. And the lack of activity from the staff exacerbated the problem. Think of it, nearly 70 spambots. They would and will attack if left unchecked. And that be a huge inconvenience to us WME users.

E86, please take note.

Yes, I noticed that these spambots are just creating havoc around the entire forum!

I guess I'll leave this to E86 to decide........

If spambots are titans, then the network server on this forum might as well be screwed like multiple Collossal Titans crushing it.

Unless the mods to something about them.. I've sent a couple of reports and they're not doing anything yet... I really hope this could get resolved ASAP. The increased activity of spambots are beginning to creep me out.

@Beno
most of the formerly active fellows here are more active at the WME FB page nowadays.

@immanoob
let's not limit as to where the new mod will be coming from. for as long as that would-be mod is willing to communicate and coordinate with fellows here, that should be alright.

@E86
Pls respond. spambots are not fun to be with.

The reason why I'm saying that E86 should pick someone from a country like Australia and Philippines is because, if you think of it, most of WME's active users are from the same area. It's best to have a moderator who's really near us.

Moderator presence is the #1 reason why I am suggesting a new mod in the first place... it's useless if E86 would just add someone who's busy with his own life, just like most of the moderators in this forum. And I don't think it'd help if the new moderator is active when we're sleeping. If you think of it, WME's activity peaks at an evening PH time, which is really early in the morning in the other side of the world. And only one out of the 4 moderators, Geo, is from a place near us (Australia).

We need at least one person who's there to do his job while we are active. That will solve WME's lack of moderator presence. We'll add another if the job is too much for a single person. It's been hours since the bots attack and that alone says something.

So in the context of picking mods...
Timezones are a good basis?
Seems good, so that this forum would have [round-the-clock] moderator presence.

+1 to this thread.
If the option to nominate is brought up, I nominate Dare and Imma.

Alright. I just talked to E86 a while ago. He said he'll fix everything up ASAP, and that new mods will be chosen by next week or so.

Apparently these new bots can bypass the forum's security checks... man spammers sure are persistent.

It's being taken care of. Regarding the moderators, thanks for bringing that up. We'll have a big changes to the Moderating Team soon. It's about time.

But seriously, if you guys need a moderator to keep an eye on things while everyone else in Asia and Down Under is sleeping, I'd be willing to take that role.
