So I've been pretty enamoured with Mount Taikan. Let's talk about it.

I've been focusing on the downhill for the most part. No concrete hp setting for up or downhill yet.

^ THIS. Seriously. laugh2.gif

And compared to Hakone / Kojiri pass, this is a pure UH/DH track; no DH segments on UH routes, and etc.

The roundabout is intense and the tollgate makes it a challenge where you should pass in preparation to the roundabout; moreso the UH roundabout literally around the parking area.

The elevation is so steep it's not that hard to hit 300 km/h on the downhill and is a far better testing ground in terms of getting the car's true top speed. While gunning at 740hp, I'm hitting Tokyo speeds of 310-320 km/h, thinking there's no gear / speed adjuster / limiter in this track.

SPOILER

Also, given fKn/AKUMA (Au) and the other Aussie "lords" of TA (given they're practically hogging all the top 1 TA records now), the ideal HP, for the DH at least is at 740hp. 760 if you're already used to the course / know what comes next after. The same might be applied for UH given you need enough power to push yourself up the hill but enough traction to drive through the S curves.

Okay wait, so does anyone know what's the best Record on MT5 location test? I know there will be some crazy guy who's hungry for TA in both DH and UH. So Gunma, 760? Your car kept sliding with no grip on the road. It seems possible tho but it doesn't work out for me. 740 is my personal optimum setting for this course.

For 4WDs / GTR34s at the very least it works fine to me. And it helps on sections 1 and 4 - the high speed areas.

Gave both the uphill and downhill a try in TA mode at the very first day not too long ago...

My current verdict: Insane wacko.gif

It reminds me of the times when I used to play the old Initial D games (particularly ver.2 and 3)...where the tracks are pretty much...slidy and narrow rolleyes.gif

Actually, you can get past 200 km/h in ID8's version of Taikan. There are no real sharp turns (as in, hairpins) there; however, it is a challenge keeping the speeds above 210 since the cars are more prone to understeer in ID8 compared to ID7.

---

Anyway, maybe I'll try 720 first this weekend I finally get to TA this map either tomorrow or on Sunday.

My bad, I meant to say get past 220. Still a disappointment, especially with the RivalSide (forgot the true term) challenge where you're Rin Hojo VS Ryosuke. 600hp GT-R only gunning 215 km/h? Disappointment much...

Just came across my mind

Can anyone give it a try on purposely retiring at the Mt. Taikan track...possibly there might be some Retire Titles available on it at certain distance points (unlike the original Hakone track...since Mt. Taikan has a longer distance @ around 12km)

inb4 Initial D reference titles like:

"Kaoru"
"You die here"
"I almost died"
"Shinigami"
"Hakone's fog"
"ZERO theory"
"It's been long, sempai"

===========

When you do Taikan TA at night... did anyone notice the lightning strike at section 1?

I did yes.gif

Only thing is can't remember at what mileage point of the track is though...

Unfortunately after the TA run there was no "Mt. Taikan Speed Freak" title given...unlike the original Hakone where its Speed Freak title will be given if birds (morning) or comets (night) were to appear during the run

I live in Brisbane and I watch the two best racers in the area TAing over and over again to hit lower times in FDs on the downhill. So intense when they get three blues, then rub the wall coming down thatinsane chase leading to the tollgate

Namco and Sega are competing game makers, copyright issues aside, why would they want to make people think of another game... Its just that these are more iconic passes, thats why they brought it in, its got nothing to do with initial d

It's more known, iconic thanks to Shigeno, and plot canon in Initial D that's why.
It's probably plot canon in WM series too but no one knows because no translations or localizations of C1 Runner outside Japan.

Toyo Tires Turnpike (Mt. Taikan) is about 12km long, which is the standard Ghost Battle lenght, so I think, while the Maximum Tune team were looking for a new mountain pass to use in the game, they selected one that fits around the 12km mark.

Then again I can be wrong as this mountain pass is used in C1 Runner.

Just waiting for TA videos at Mt. Taikan. If you wanna win at this map, I would suggest being on second before the last turns and go past the first placer (or maybe park him) then you win, somehow it worked in my cases.

Now, if only we can have the R35 dressed up with a GT wing and wheels, we can recreate that race against the Hakosuka in C1 Runner.

So it looks like 740 or 760 is the way to go for both ways.

Rx-8 holds the record for downhill.

Its less similar to Hakone, more of a combination of Yaesu and New Belt Line in terms of corners. The very last turn is quite tricky, in battles you can go from first to last.

Leading and finishing last could happen in a matter of seconds in this course.
