So I got my hands on a copy of Maximum Tune 3 and 3DX+ dump, does anyone have a clue on how the Chihiro emulation works on MAME?

There's some source code here, but it's all moonspeak to me:
http://mamedev.org/source/src/mame/drivers/chihiro.c.html

I noticed Chihiro might only work on WMMT and WMMT2, their GD-rom data can be found on places like coolrom

If you can't get it to work, is it possible to extract the 3D models for modding purposes?

if its anything like the other stuff (neogeo for example) you need to get the bios zip file to match the respective rom (like you needed neogeo.zip for metal slug) so you need some CHD or zip file with the chihiro bios to run alongside wmmt2/3

I think you can still pull out stuff from the ROM.
What's important is that the contents of the ROM can be read and taken out.
If that is possible, then the only problem left would be if the data is encrypted.

You don't need the game to be running to extract data from the ROM.

Would make some sweet NFSMW mods. Finally another source to rip from aside from FM and Juiced 2.

Objection!

I have read the forum guidelines and nothing has state anything "illegal" or mentions of "emulation".

In terms of emulation rules, technically WMMT1-2 roms can be distributed legally under 10+ years release date rule. WMMT3 will have to wait until at least 2017. However I have possession of WMMT3 and 3DX+ dumps, but I chose not to distribute because I have paid my share to obtain them.

WMMT2 does not require a mod to work on ID3 cabs, it simply works because it uses the same input methods and Sega Chihiro. As long as drivers are written for steering wheels such as Logitech G25, technically it will work with ID1-3 and WMMT. You can even run Gundam Battle on ID cab for shits and giggles

If you got money, don't bother with emulation, just find a cheap Chihiro and DIY all the other parts like steering wheel and LCD screen

I won't say much but if the arcade racing scene has as much dedication and talents as the arcade music game scene, we could all be playing ID7 and WMMT3DX+ at home with USB Steering wheels on our computers. But to be honest, music games run on Windows, racing games don't. That's the hardest part, compatibility

Unfortunately, I "HAD" money for at least a twin-set of MT3DX+.

It's gone now. I was considering getting it too, but I realized It wasn't proper.
I can still get ID3 cab but.... still.... ID3 cards supplies are like.. hard mode.

That I will not say. But the proper way is to have the tools to dump a legally obtained CHD including a security key it comes with. If you find a CHD on ebay without a key, DO NOT BUY! It's a big waste of $200-300 usd

make sure the MT2 machine has been well-kept, most have burnt components because of overheating. Never mind the abused wheel, seats, pedals, and shifter (oh god). You'd be lucky to find one with buttons that don't need new switches either. Not to mention you will definitely need to purchase a new card reader, ink, and new cards (an additional $1000-2000usd depends how namco charges)

Essentially, buying a MT2 machine is like buying a 180SX or S13. Good luck finding one in good shape. MT3 machines are going in the same category soon

I don't know how much 3dx+ machines go for these days, but you're probably looking at $8000+usd in good condition. If someone's feeling generous, you might find one under $7000, but no less than $5000 unless it needs major fixing

you can check Alibaba:

Found an old email that I asked from the arcade online before, $7500 each.
=/ Actually it wouldn't be that bad, I'd still have to buy lots of bulk 3DX+ series cards online to use to tune carrsss

Figured it would run awful. Which is why I suggested you extract the game data such as car geometry and/or course geometry, or music tracks.

Of course you shouldn't do any of this because I asked you to, because I have no idea how to use them, but think of the sweet mods possible with it. Map mods, car mods.

Is it actually illegal though if nobody's making any money off it?

It's piracy if I distribute it freely just like if you torrent a PC game. Nobody's making any money, but the intellectual property belongs to NamcoBandai. If people start running cab datas at home, arcades would start losing players and will not buy upgrades from NB anymore. No sales means no more games.

Well, that would be the case in arcade popularized places. In the US, I can understand that with more and more arcades closing, many arcade gamers chose to invest in buying an arcade cab and running the game from their garage or basement. This is especially the case if you live in a rural area.

Even modding a game from Namco-Bandai or any game companies without a consent is probably illegal unless they slip you off on the 10-year grace period

Making any moolah or not as long when they see it and probably attack you on legal mumbo-jumbo that means you're a threat to them

@RIT_ninja
Heck with current overkill PC specs it should emulate and probably run on warpdrive, but the issue stands when a certain BIOS file from WMMT3 series will be compatible on MAME derivatives unless one of the devs found the holy grail to how to emulate it on 100% success

from what I know WMMT2 emulated seems playable but not as smooth as the arcade counterpart I'd say about 70% working

as for reading WMMT3 Series magnetic cards during emulation is one tough cookie unless some DIY'er found a solution as an input drive on that card R/W assembly

The Card R/W assembly doesn't use ink but it uses a system similar to Ancient Fax machine or Cash register it uses thermal printing, as for R/W data it uses similar to Casette tape as I've noticed that there was a line scratches on a certain area on the rear portion of the card, based on my perception when I got access to the WMMT3 cabinet when fixing with the greenhorn maintenance crew happy.gif

My deduction that they don't use ink on WMMT3 is solid when I deliberately used the same sized magnetic card on WMMT3 but it did read the car data but the written part was blank then my deduction of thermal printing was right only the needle etching was evident because that magnetic card from a Train has no thermal layer on it as opposed on the WMMT cards

The card reader can come later, the main thing is the roms don't even run.
There is a forum where people were working on getting an original Xbox dev kit to run CHDs by adding extra ram and hooking up the rom drive to the Xbox. It will run at 100% because the Chihiro is based off of the Xbox original. Of course, this only works for WMMT1-2. The development died out due to the lack of interest and the lack of roms the Chihiro has.

WMMT3 uses a completely different hardware, the Namco N2. However, no attempts of emulating the hardware was made, probably due to the fact that it only plays about 7 arcade games, 3 of them being WMMT3, 3DX, and 3DX+.

WMMT4 and 5 currently runs off of BandaiNamco's arcade variations of Linux, similar to the Sega Lindbergh or RingEdge, however the hardware has not been cracked or hacked like Sega's.

The common misconception that specs is all that matters, but you got to look at the hardware compatibility and software emulation. Otherwise every low-end laptop can perform 100% speed 60fps PS2 and Wii emulation.

Since HW Specs using customized PC parts from Namco System N2, there are no news regarding decrypting the System N2's BIOS

But hearing one crazy guy that he was offering a WMMT3 from customized PC cabinet still no leads about him

I had to end up buying one of these because the wait was too much ! sad.gif Sadly it's just a shooting setup, but lots of good shooters to play at least. Had to have that Virtua Cop 3!

Hopefully some day I can get a wheel hooked up or other controls.

if the price wasn't so steep (still couple thousand i think the wmmt3/dx machines are going for) i might've got one or two.

well that and the "where to put it" issue.

From what I can find out WMMT3 uses Namco System 246 hardware, A development of the PS2 which has the same Emotion Engine CPU along with the same graphics processing unit as the PS2.
Ridge racer V was originally released as a PS2 game, which was then ported into a arcade game on the Namco System 246 as Ridge racer V arcade battle.
With this information in mind surely this gives a little bit of hope as we have PS2 emulation with pcsx2, So maybe someone can have a go at modifying pcsx2 (bios?) to play WMMT3.

This link shows the technical information of the hardware for WMMT3 including specs.
arcade-history.com/?n=wangan-midnight-maximum-tune-3&page=detail&id=39198

Might aswell add this aswell.
coinoppartsetc.com/product/parts-sale-pcb-boards/ridge-racer-v-wanagan-midnight-arcade-machine-game-pcb-printed-circu-2

(Can't add full links yet)

EDIT: Yeah, turns out someone has tried exactly that.
youtube.com/watch?v=k9mZFZ16H1E

EDIT2: It seems I'm wrong, Wangan Midnight and Wangan Midnight R are the only games using the Namco 246 (The Wangan Midnight PS2 game and a sequel that I'm assuming was not released on PS2)
