Just a heads up, I managed to at least get hold of PSP's Wangan Midnight, and now routing a race for the next chapter. What's the race all about? The most recent chapter has very much the clues...

This teaser of the next chapter was actually an nfscars.net exclusive... but the hell with it.
-----------------------------------------

25th Stage
Power Of The V8s

It had only been 3 days after Tessa returned to the dorm, and Motoko being the new lodger, and already things have livened up slightly. However, it was unusual for Aikawa to actually feel more open about the ‘Ryou’ issue. The only thing that Minoru could assume at that time was that the Both Aikawa and Tessa were going through the same situation; they were not sure on how to deal with it. But no matter, at least the powerhouse was back to his normal, slightly wacky self, which very much was the fuel to the dorm’s liveliness. But of course, within all the chaos of the dormitory, the calm and composed Kendo teacher was as usual, absent from the scene. Very much she had been practicing her swords play at the backyard, where a simple garden was located.

Of course, it was not that all surprising, considering that Kagura maintains the backyard. But no matter, the peaceful atmosphere was enough for the 28 year old. She had been at it for the past two hours from 7am onwards, but there was no sign of her stopping. Her stamina was still at its peak, and considering that there were still some things she needed moving from her former rented apartment, Motoko had to take leave from her occupation. But no matter other than those criteria she needed to do, there was something else that bothered her. She was not bothered by the people around her; it was one specific car that got to her nerves somehow. The deep blue Vauxhall VXR8 was the cause. Motoko had nothing against Tessa, the owner of the modern muscle car, but the fact that it could be as competitive as the Plymouth worried her. The Kendo teacher was sure she was one of the few candidates good enough to match the Tommykaira R.

“No matter what I do to calm myself down, that blue Vauxhall still gets on my nerves. Why?” she thought while doing her Kendo practices. “Maybe I am fated to meet a tough rival; a tough V8 rival?”

That question lingered in her mind as she continued on with her training. Not even a cumbersome subject would prevent her from disturbing her morning rituals. She paused at that moment. Motoko was not sure why she had done so, but it felt as if she needed to end her exercise for now. Sweat-drenched, she paced her way back into the dorm before being greeted by a cheery albino, who was cooking up a simple breakfast meal. The 28 year old barely paid attention to what the busty woman had uttered; from where she stood, she could see the deep blue Vauxhall through the open front door. Something wrenched within her.

“I’ll excuse myself. Have to take a shower,” the jet black haired teacher uttered the words to Kagura before taking off.

That Vauxhall VXR8 is extremely intimidating…

… … …

Tessa and Aikawa were having small chats about Ryou, though they avoided the parts when the German crashed onwards. Very much they wanted to have good memories with that rich man; they knew one day it will shatter like glass. Of course, noticing the absence of the blonde’s S30Z, the orange head had to ask about it. However, every mention about that specific vehicle would snuff Aikawa’s open-minded nature; those words very much wrenched the blonde’s heart.

“I know it’s still not mended,” thought Twin-tails. “But I got to save up for that V6 engine I’ve set my eyes on back at that junkyard. Buying it now would just tear a hole of my wallet.”

No matter, Aikawa managed to find ways to avert from her situation to Tessa’s. The sudden change of cars did raise an eyebrow for the blonde, but with such an explanation from the brunette, it somehow made sense. A long absence like that, Tessa would not want to simply get back to her wrecked Gloria, and fix it up again. But even so, that was not the first time it had happened to her; this was the second. And right now, it felt like a re-enactment of what she might be doing next. A vicious cycle was the term the German was looking for. Her grip on the cup of coffee tightened before she made her way out of the dormitory, and towards her new machine. A frown formed on her face. Even though she had gotten used to the Vauxhall, there was a hint of hesitation within her; she missed her former glory in the Gloria luxury sedan. With the VXR8, she had to rebuild it all over again. Her hands trembled without Tessa noticing. However the words that left her mouth mirrored her anxiety.

“This is the 3rd car already. Will I crash this one as well? Will I end up in hospital like the past two incidents? Judging by the increasing severity of my conditions in the two crashes, will I even be able to make it out alive? I feel like a wreck in inside; maybe even a piece of glassware with hairline cracks. I may have recovered from my injuries, but I feel as if I’m dying from within.”

A gentle breeze brushed against her wavy hair, causing her left hand to grasp to her unbuttoned overcoat. Her body just felt colder when she recovered from her coma. She paused, shutting her eyes for a moment. She did not want to see those images of her crash with the Gloria in her mind. That sight of her blood dribbling down the steering wheel, and that bloodstained airbag. The numbness that she felt from waist below; she could barely move her legs at the time. But the one that killed something inside her was the panicked expression from Minoru. As much a she knew of her affection towards Ryou, she was unsure of her relationship towards that powerhouse. Torn between close friendships and loyalty was probably the reason. She turned around, having the intention to return to her bedroom and have a good rest. However, her eyes came into view of a large sized, brown muscle car. Even though the German had seen vehicles of the same category like the Camaro Z28, she had never seen this particular model. Puzzled, she paced her way to the back of the car, only to find the words ‘Plymouth Roadrunner’. Only then she remembered a specific model that was based on that muscle car; the Superbird.

“An underdog,” Tessa uttered. “A tactical choice. A tough rival for me as well-.”

A sudden jolt was felt from within. That caused her to release her cup of warm coffee and grasp her overcoat, while applying pressure to her chest. That was not the first time it had happened ever since she regained consciousness from the coma. This immense pain and agony within her would come up randomly. Tessa was not sure what it was, nor does she even want to head back to the hospital to find out what was the cause. All the German knew at this time, her days might be numbered.

“I need my painkillers,” she thought, pacing her way back to the dormitory while trying to look as calm as possible. “Hospital’s a no go. They just patch people up like applying wood filler.”

Tessa paused at that second. She swore she felt someone staring at her from a distance. She tilted her head upwards, towards a specific window. A stabbing stare in a form of Motoko was spotted. The German, though wringing in pain, put up a calm attitude before lashing out her sharp tongue.

“What are you looking at me like that? As if I could die from an icy cold glare by a woman who had yet to wear proper undergarments.”

The Kendo teacher took a step back by the unexpected response from the foreigner. However, she could not excuse that verbal assault. She had her reason why she needed to wear the sarashi over a bra, and being mocked at by that was enough to blow her temper. If there’s one thing that could drive her furious, it would be anything related to Kendo, even if only related like wearing a sarashi. Ever so quickly, Motoko aimed a finger at the German, riled by the sarcastic comment.

“I barely know who you are, but you disgust me with that remark of yours,” the brunette countered.

“Really?” Tessa responded, not moved by the earlier sentence. “What are you going to do about that, huh?”

Motoko’s temptation ran at an all time high before she replied, “A race through Yokohane Inbound, midnight!”

The orange haired blonde was in a mess inside. It had been a long time she had ran through that section of the Shutokou. And little she knew that that Kendo instructor was a former ace in that particular section before Aikawa took the position when she was on hiatus. By that time, Tessa realized she was cornered. However, that was not going to gloom over her. The VXR8 was already a beast when she first got it, and with modifications, it was a demon in disguise. Response was more than she had expected, and handling was tighter than her previous Nissan Gloria. She now understood why Minoru wanted to go faster every time he headed out for the Shutokou. The thrill that runs through your body. Those little moments where you would feel as if time slowed down and your responses heightened to greater lengths. And those precious seconds where you would feel alive. All that was enough to convince Tessa. She wanted to have that kind of feeling ever since her loss of the Gloria. Now, she got what she wanted. Never had she cared about the rather unfamiliar section of the Shutokou. If there was a need to win, all she would do was just hang on, and survive. She could not care less about her life anymore.

“I’m already broken to begin with,” she thought before voicing her decision. “A done deal, Motoko!”

… … …

Midnight, The Shutokou…
Yokohane Inbound, Shioiri

As much Tessa wanted to have a jumpstart and take the lead, the race had not begun at all. With that busty Kendo instructor leading the way to the specific section of Yokohane Inbound, the German was very much unsure what Motoko was planning to pull off. A particular starting point might be the most possible answer. The blonde’s foot felt heavy at that point of time; she was getting impatient- the driver’s window from the Plymouth wound downwards before Motoko’s left arm was seen aiming at the road sign hung over the road. Tessa knew what that was; the starting line. Just as the Roadrunner’s window wound up again, the two massively powered V8 machines increased their speed to around 120kmh; a running start. However, the blonde was already feeling the upcoming thrill that was going to occur. Her faint smile turned to a leer of excitement. As much Tessa knew she was ‘broken’, her Vauxhall was not. Now, she sees her blue VXR8 as her life support.

“Like playing a game with only one life left; I’ll bring myself to the edge!” thoughts ran through the German’s mind, her right feet ready to bury the throttle, and her left on standby for a gear up-shift.

A faint left hander was past the overhead road sign, which meant that Motoko could not floor the throttle. The Plymouth’s extremely high torque was the downfall when it came from sudden surge of acceleration. Her tyres would spin excessively, causing quicker wear. She had to balance throttle and grip once the race begins; both muscle cars went past the road sign. Silence was what both of them heard. They were not sure, even though they have massive V8 engines that were growling, just waiting to let it out its raw power. The Kendo instructor, still in 2nd gear, feathered the throttle, allowing her Roadrunner to increase its speed gradually as she turned slightly to the bend. However, the ‘broken’ Tessa gunned for it as she floored the gas. Tyres squealed faintly before the screaming whine of the supercharger filled the particular section of the Shutokou. Traffic had been at an all time low lately, hence there was little to no worry about having a collision in this race, or would it?

The Vauxhall blasted past the American muscle car before shifting to 3rd at 150kmh. The German still had the accelerator floored; she need not worry about the rear tyres losing grip that much. After all, she was used to racing with hard compound tyres. The whine of the supercharger filled the cockpit with such ear-rattling ecstasy as Tessa let out a faint chuckle. She was not sure why had had reacted that way, but she did not have that sense of thrill similar to Minoru’s. It was somewhat… different. Something was missing that she was trying to cover it up- a burbling sound from another V8 was heard. Ash brown eyes took a quick glance at the rear view mirror just after she blasted past the filter lane to Asada.

There’s just right behind the Vauxhall’s rear bumper, was Motoko’s massive Roadrunner. If there was one thing that was to her advantage, it would be the muscle car’s gearbox. It was uncommon to have a 4-speed gearbox that was able to reach speeds past 300kmh, but Motoko was able to get one from a scrapped, race tuned Dodge Daytona. That part itself burned a hole in her savings, but to the Kendo instructor, it was a part well spent. It had not given problems to her, though she had done regular servicing on her machine. But what she wanted now was a change in suspension; double-wishbone all round. The 28 year old shook her head, putting aside of her future plans onto the Roadrunner. She was still in second gear, just waiting to up shift when the aftermarket speedometer reads 180kmh. The section ahead was very much a series of gentle corners; hence tyre wear would be less of a worry for her. Motoko geared up to 3rd, but this time, she went for it. Lane changing next to Tessa’s, the brunette floored the throttle. Thick rear tyres squealed ever so briefly before traction lunged the huge brown machine forwards, taking a clean overtake.

The sounds of the 383 CID V8 were music to her ears. It was no HEMI engine, but it was mechanical, and sounded as if hammers were whacking on huge iron nails that were stubborn to budge. The growls were like a war with bellows and deep gurgles in the midst of everything. That filled the air in the Roadrunner. Motoko simply loved that. It was her fuel to go faster in an American muscle car. The immense torque was put to good use once the Plymouth hit 3rd. Acceleration was constant, and the speeds kept on increasing. 230kmh was what she was doing before a jet-like whine of the supercharger from the VXR8 was heard again.

“Impressive that you caught up, but seems you don’t know that I’ve MacPherson struts instead of the ancient live-axle. I may still understeer considerably,” Motoko paused before resuming. “But that doesn’t mean I would hold back! If there’s one thing Aikawa and everyone hadn’t known about me, I was the dominator of Yokohane before I went on a hiatus!”

Motoko’s eyes narrowed as she paid more attention to the road ahead. If there was one thing she wanted to have, it would be her domination in Yokohane. She knew all about Aikawa’s stint as ‘Ace of Yokohane’ when she was away, even though her circle of friends was not that big. Several veterans who had quitted since now act as informants for her. That was enough for the Kendo instructor to plan what she needed to do when she returned. All of it seemed to go according to plan, except for the presence of that blue Vauxhall. Just its sight from Minoru’s dormitory was uncalled for, hence this race. Cocky might be the word to describe herself, but if there was something she wanted to retain, it would be her pride as an American muscle car racer. But most of all…

“I’ll be taking back my domination in this section, no matter what!”

… … …

Minoru’s Dormitory…

As much both Kagura and Minoru were occupying themselves with oil changing of their respective vehicles, they were very much concerned about the sudden match against both Motoko and Tessa. Never had they known the Kendo instructor would ‘explode’ at such a remark from the sharp-tongued German. The albino glanced at the powerhouse, somehow feeling uneasy. It was not about the duo; the matter was about Aikawa.

“You know Minoru, there are some things I still can’t understand. I know Aikawa is working overtime so she could return to the Shutokou as fast as possible, but shouldn’t you try and assist her financially? Looks like your income has been stable these days ever since you got promoted to a senior position,” asked the busty woman, her buttocks resting on the left rear fender of her R32.

“I did, as a return for what most of you had done when I wrecked the Tommykaira back then. Of course, most of it did come from Ryou though. However, she declined my offer when I wanted to help. My only assumption might be her encounter with Ryou at the Shutokou before she wrecked the S30Z. No matter I still have some of the amount set aside just in case should she change her mind,” Minoru replied, taking a quick break from the oil change. “However, if she still insists on it, I have plans on a project car.”

“Oh?” the lass’ attention perked up. “What’s the car you’re looking for then?”

“Since I might have plans to sell the Honda Prelude to Tokiko since she was looking for a car for casual driving, I’m looking into something that is a bit more… family-friendly.”

“Now that’s interesting, any targets?”

“There are two at the moment.”

“They are?”

“Either the Toyota Caldina GT-Four, or the TRD Toyota Wish. 4WD is what I’m looking for.”

Kagura did not utter a word from there; she was not sure how to even respond to it. Her left hand that was holding the dipstick tightened. The only thing the albino knew…

…she was dead speechless.

… … …

Yokohane Inbound, past Daishi

A growl left Motoko’s mouth as she hit the top of the steering wheel in frustration. Ever since her mistake around Hama Kawasaki when she lost control momentarily, Tessa had been in the lead, and blocking as well to prevent the massive Roadrunner to overtake. Though the Kendo instructor knew it was one of the few tactics of winning, never she felt so annoyed by the cause of it. However, if there was a chance of overtaking with extremely high risks, it would be the one near Haneda. Just past the filter lanes would be a moderate right turn, and late braking might be what the brunette was aiming for. Also, judging by how reckless that German had been faring so far, it might not be long before she messes up as well. Several faint corners were in the way as Motoko adjusted her throttle hence she would maintain her speed of 240kmh in 3rd. That seems to be the speed the Vauxhall was doing as well, and not increasing for a getaway. As much the brunette was being tempted to overtake, she felt something was amiss.

“What are you thinking now, Tessa? Trying to find a way to get away from my Roadrunner?” she taunted, tapping on the horn as well. “If you want to win, move!”

The familiar faint right corner was the sign that the said corner Motoko was targeting was next. She floored the throttle and lane changed to the empty lane on the inside. With her speed around 265kmh, the dark brown Plymouth took a clean overtake from the blue sedan. The moderate right corner was next, and the brunette had to time when she needed to brake. The filter lane from the right was coming up next; she would have to brake slightly before the converging lane. Her left leg was already tapping the brake pedal, but effects were minimal. Speed dropped slightly to 250kmh before she depressed moderately. Thanks to the aftermarket ABS system she had installed, she need not worry about wheel locks, though she had to take precaution of it. As her speedometer read 195kmh, still in 3rd, Motoko turned the wheel ever so quickly into the corner before depressing the throttle in mid apex. The immense torque caused the rear to slide slightly outwards; a wrong move would result of a spinout, or even a crash. Her eyes widened as she spotted her problem.

The brunette released the accelerator and countersteered it to regain control of her beastly machine. The sight of the Vauxhall behind her became a distraction as the Plymouth edged its way onto the outside lane before the exit of the corner. Motoko’s concentration waned after that stint. She was not sure whether her tyres had worn off, or simply her mistake of applying the throttle too soon. But whatever it was, she had to pay attention to where Tessa was. She took a glance at the rear view mirror. Not a sight. That meant one thing. That German was right next to her. The unmistakable whine of the supercharger was an obvious signal to where she was. However, she did not want to even take a glance at the Vauxhall; just the sight of it would throw her into a world of anxiety. Still in 3rd gear, the Kendo instructor floored the gas pedal. She has to remain in the lead, in fact, she should be ahead, else all the power under the bonnet would be deemed useless.

265kmh was read on the aftermarket speedometer before a moderate left hander was next, then a decline left bend into the tunnel. The only issue she has was that she needed to go into the lane where Tessa was. If there was a way she could hit that said lane, she would have to give up her lead for that moment. And she did. Easing the throttle, she allowed the VXR8 to take the lead. Majority would be stumped by the brunette’s decision, but for a muscle car like hers, she had to deal most of the corners in an ‘out-in-out’ fashion. She could do the corners on the inside lane on entry and still exit on the same lane, but that very much would be at cost for tyre wear. Even though hers was still considered fresh, abusing it would still wear it out quickly. Motoko tapped on the brakes as the bend approached fast. However, Tessa was still speeding, right to the entry of the corner, though she had turned in, now around in between the two lanes. Crazy was the word the brunette was thinking, but the insanity by the German still baffles her.

“You’re as mad as a Kamikaze soldier of the Second World War,” was Motoko’s thoughts as she turned in.

… … …

As much the blonde wanted to win, her mind was literally in a mess. Her concentration was waning, and her reactions were now several milliseconds slower than usual. And just moments ago, she had almost forgotten to hit the brakes as her Vauxhall entered the moderate left hander. The ABS system of her VXR8 did wonders to slow her sedan down, but the fact that she remained on the outside lane throughout the said corner was a mistake. She glanced at the rear view mirror. She was edging away, though by small amounts. She had to keep up the pace; from the looks of it, Tessa had a feeling that power wise, she was the inferior one. A decline left hander was next. In 3rd gear at 190kmh, she turned the wheel to the corner while releasing the throttle, allowing the Vauxhall to hit the inside mid-apex. From there, she applied the gas gradually; hence she would be able to maintain staying at the said lane till the exit, where she hit 4th gear prematurely intentionally. All that insane fiasco at the high speed sections earlier on might have an impact on her tyres. It bothered her, yet she wanted to go faster, and remain faster than that old rectangular box of a car. Tessa bit her lip at the frustration. She down shifted to 3rd, and floored it.

The sudden surge of acceleration lunge the blue sedan ahead before it ran out of revs, needing an upshift to 4th. An incline followed by a right hander with a filter lane to the left was next. If there was an example of a blind spot, that specific corner would be it. No one would know if there was a vehicle filtering from Airport West. And the biggest for most racers was this; there would always be a taxi or two coming from that way. Sweat broke out from her forehead as she switched lanes. If there was a way she could make out that corner at high speed, it would be staying on the inside, and upshifting prematurely to remain on the inside. That was her logic, but she had not considered that the incline ends before the corner, hence inertia would cause reduced grip. The Roadrunner behind her slowed down the moment both cars hit the incline. The brown machine horned as a response. That puzzled the German, but at her state, she could not care less. In 4th gear, she released the throttle before turning to the corner- ash brown eyes widened. Even though she had steered to the right, there was little to no effect. She hit the brakes, and geared down to 3rd, then 2nd. The Vauxhall found itself throwing towards the outside lane as a result, but due to the reduced speed Tessa was able to pull off, it prevented the VXR8 from crashing.

“I almost killed myself!” she thought before the Roadrunner sped past on the inside lane. “That’s what she meant when she horned at me. It’s a trick corner.”

Tessa was not sure whether to continue the race, or give up. It was obvious that she was being too reckless in this race. And the fact that she was still under medication; she felt humiliated. Not because of Motoko, but to herself. Never she had been so rash, and even accepted the challenge. Normally she would back off, knowing the dangers that would lurk ahead. But even so, her rage still burned on. She hit 3rd gear at 150kmh after clearing the dangerous corner. The Roadrunner was still in sight. Her mind was simply a blank, and now running on pure instinct. 4th gear in 220kmh, she slipped into the lane where the Plymouth was. Drafting was what she wanted in order to catch up. They entered a wide right hander with a slight incline. Motoko’s muscle car eased on the throttle while remaining on the inside, while Tessa, unfamiliar with Yokohane Inbound, kept on flooring the throttle. Her reckless driving allowed her to blast past the Plymouth at mid-apex, where she lane changed. However, what she not known was the fact that her Vauxhall was understeering at that point of time, not realizing that she was heading towards Showajima Junction’s filter lane.

Ash brown eyes widened the moment she noticed the two diverging roads. The left leads to a bridge, where it will head to Wangan Inbound, while to the right remained on Yokohane Inbound. Tessa had to react fast if she wanted to stay in the Yokohane route; she tapped on the brakes and steered towards the right lane. That was the wrong move. Even though the Vauxhall was heading towards the correct lane, the fact that she was still understeering, and it would be only moments’ kind of reaction to avoid the divider. Tyres squealed wildly as the horn from the Plymouth was heard. The German opened her eyes before she noticed the Roadrunner bumping from her right, allowing the VXR8 to slip into the lane for Wangan Inbound, avoiding the divider completely. Tessa steered hard to prevent her sedan from scraping against the barriers before coming to a halt on the emergency lane. Her breaths were heavy as her mind began to clear up. She was not sure what had happened, but she knew Motoko somewhat prevented her from another crash.

The sound of the 383 CID V8 rang into her ears as she took a quick glance at the passenger’s window. There, the Plymouth Roadrunner roared off as it dealt the left corner by feathering the accelerator through the turn, and hammered on the exit. Tessa was not sure how to repay that brunette. But come what may, she knew she owed Motoko a favour; a big favour.

“As much I hated her guts and the fact that we have V8s under the bonnet, I have to admit,” paused the blonde before resuming. “I’m beginning to respect her for daring to drive such a monstrous machine.”

…V8 sisters, huh? That might sound interesting…

I just recently catched up, its kinda hard scrolling through the thread
you should make a blog or something to keep these wonderful stories organized

btw, great idea, using Guilty Gear music
I've thought of using Right Now as a song in my fanfic, but it looks like you took my idea first

A clue to the next chapter... Just listen to the tone of the song is enough...

Trailer to the next chapter

26th Stage
Dangerous Illusions

Distorted images I see as the world,
The monochrome visions doused with sepia,
The fluid that flows within me,
Unreal, fake, a lie…

Ash brown eyes opened wide as she shot up to a sitting position on her bed. Her breaths were heavy. Her clothes were drenched in cold sweat. Tessa was unsure what the causes to her anxiety were. She gazed at the window she had left it open hours ago. Her room had been a bit stuffy and that open window helped to ventilate. She then gazed at the car keys of her destroyed Nissan Gloria that was hung on display next to a picture of the said vehicle. Not a word left her mouth, or even a thought running through her mind. She race she had with that Kendo instructor still had an impact on her indirectly. Her mind was already braced for another accident and probably death, but Motoko denied that. However…

“As much I am still alive, I’m done for. I feel like a puppet. Even in hospital, I was told I was on life support for almost 2 months during that duration. I was ‘dead’ back then,” the German uttered under her breath before resuming. “Life support? Was there an event that my heart ceased at that time?”

Her eyes caught attention on the mound of medicine sticking out from the drawer of the side table. Sickening was the word she wanted to find. All those pills felt as if it was controlling, subduing her. However, she was told that she needed to consume them should she wanted to remain fine and sane. Tessa did the opposite; after consuming them once, she stopped, and seems that things were… different. She was not sure why, but her vision was of sepia. Multiple shades of brown were what she sees now. She shut her eyes and shook her head, thinking that it was simply her mind playing tricks. It was not. The blonde punched the bolster resting next to her.

“What is wrong with me?” she thought. “I better get a glass of water and calm down.”

After taking a few moments tying her hair to a ponytail, in her attire of white tank top and brown shorts, she paced her way out of her room. Time struck 3 in the morning, and the corridor to the stairs was a short distance away. That was already a challenge for her. Tessa’s vision was swaying, and everything seemed distorted. Everything seemed dimmer than usual. She was puzzled, and deranged. The blonde grasped on the railings as support before making her way down the staircase. That was her wrong move. Just as she took the first step down, her right feet slipped on the edge as Tessa soon found herself tumbling down before her back hit a stiff furniture in a form of a leather sofa. A faint wheeze left her mouth before letting out a cough or two. Wetness was felt when she covered her mouth for another hack. Her eyes widened as she took a glimpse of what was on her hand. Not a word left her mouth as her mind was thrown into a mess. Flicking her right hand to get rid of that… thing wriggling on it, she then huddled near to the rear of the sofa.

“What’s with me? What the hell is wrong with me? Is it that I didn’t take the medicine prescribed? Or is it just something else?”

The German clutched her head, still trying to find an answer to the cause- a metallic clang from the kitchen overwhelmed her. Undoubtedly, fear began to build up, but even so, Tessa made her way to the source of the sound, wanting to know what it was. Her hands trembled; part of her wanted to scamper back to her bedroom, while the other insisted on the source. She took a peek into the kitchen; nothing, just a meat cleaver that had dropped onto the floor. A sigh of relief left her mouth. She swayed slightly as she picked it up, and placed it into the- the German let out a scream.

“M-maggots!” she exclaimed, tossing the cleaver away. “Why am I seeing so much blood and maggots? Why is everything so brown? What the hell is wrong with me?”

Huddling to one corner of the kitchen, Tessa did not bawl. Instead, she began to murmur under her breath. None of it were logical, only gibberish words. If there was one thing that could calm her, t would be the medicine, back in her bedroom. But considering what she had gone through just to get to the kitchen, the German simply stayed put… till morning broke.

…Must be that orange R34…

…Must be that orange R34…

… … …

“Tessa! Oy, Tessa!” Minoru’s voice rang into her ears before her eyes cracked open.

A wheeze left the German’s mouth before she noticed both the powerhouse and Motoko with concerned expressions on their face. However, the thing that stumped Tessa was the fact she was lying behind the leather sofa, near the staircase instead of being in the kitchen.

“We found you knocked out cold when we saw you here. Did you fall down the stairs?” asked the Kendo instructor, who does not seem to have a grudge against the foreigner.

“But I thought I was-,” Tessa’s thoughts were cut off when she began coughing, to a point a small amount of blood splattered onto the floor.

“Tessa!” Motoko responded before she received the back hand from the German.

“This is nothing. I can handle this myself,” she hissed, pacing her way back to her bedroom before slamming the door.

“I seriously hope Tessa would get better. She’s not being herself ever since that race with you, Motoko,” Minoru commented before the 28 year old turned to look at him.

“As much I have tried to get her back to her senses, she might be one tough nut to crack. Time might not only be the one she needed right now. She seemed to be breaking down emotionally,” the brunette replied. “As much she doesn’t want us to interfere, we have to do something about it. I have a bad feeling she condition would spiral downwards.”

A moment of silence separated the duo before Motoko remembered what she needed to do today, “Which reminds me, I have to retrieve my commuting car back at my workplace. Looks like I have neglected it ever since I resumed activity in the Shutokou.”

“I have a feeling that it’s a Honda,” Minoru implied.

“Some guess you got there. It’s a 1st Gen. Honda Today,”

Frustration kicked in for Tessa as she threw one of the two pillows to a nearby wall. As much she had to consume the medicine, it would always throw her into an unsettling mood. Yes, the hallucinations were gone, but she would feel more irritated, and prone to anger. That was what she was going through now. A wild thought ran through her mind, but it did not make any sense. The only thing that might calm her down for now was a drive through the Shuto Highway, but considering that it was only around 11am, there might still be some residue of the rush hour period.

“The hell with that, I’m going,” she thought before taking a quick whiff of her pyjamas. “After I take a quick shower.”

… … …

ShinKanjou Inner Loop, just before the Rainbow Bridge

Even though the German had braced for heavy traffic, so far, there had not been any. All was just smooth sailing without a hint that there was going to be another form of jam. However, with her Vauxhall stuck at 80kmh in 3rd, Tessa just had this urge to down shift and put the pedal to the metal. Her eyes took a glance at the rear view mirror; a highway patrol car in a form of a Honda NSX. As much she could outrun that car, she felt that the police might call for back up and more of them of gang up. A sigh left her mouth as she steered into the left turn on the side, passing through the bridge. No matter, cruising at this speed seemed to have calmed her mind somewhat. She was at ease, as the soft burbles of her recently repaired VXR8 were soothing to her ears. Her eyes caught attention of the sign towards Wangan Outbound; she decided against it. The ShinKanjou was very much her playground. She knew how to deal with corners in this particular section, but that was on her Gloria.

“Looks like I’ll have to learn how to deal the corners in this section later tonight,” thought Tessa, taking a sip of mineral water she had on the cup holder. “But before all that, I still have to get my revenge on that bastard orange R34. Brian Keller was his name, eh?”

That thought made threw her off, literally wrecking her peace she had seconds ago. Passing the filter lane to Daiba, using her indicator, she steered the VXR8 into the inside lane before goosing up her speed to around 90kmh. That was the fastest she could go for now; anywhere higher, Tessa would be answering to the highway patrol. A growl was heard under her breath. Irritated she had become, but the urge of simply letting loose and go on a high speed rampage was at its peak. She hit her forehead against the top of the steering wheel, just so she could calm down. That had her pause for a moment to think. She knew she had lost control of her Gloria back then and crashed ever so spectacularly, after being rammed to hell by that damned R34. That and witnessing bits of Minoru holding a gas propelled nail gun, aiming it at the foreigner in nylon before he scampered off. She too remembered where Minoru went into a world of panic as he rushed towards her aid back then. That numbness she felt on her legs; that was the source of her fear. Never had she thought back then she would be able to walk again.

“But I survived,” she muttered. “Like a broken doll, I kept getting repaired, but the cracks and holes within still remain over the new patches of plaster and paint. And Ryou…”

She paused at that instant as her Vauxhall dealt a wide right corner with such ease. Of all things considered, she had never thought of Ryou once in that course of time, not even when she was hunting for that orange R34.

“How could I forget all about Ryou? As much we hated each other’s guts back then, we still end up being affectionate for one another. Heck, we even… ‘did that’ once,”

Her mood to cruise around ShinKanjou was in shambles. She did not have the urge to even drive her blue VXR8 as well. It was as if she wanted to take the hike and walk off someplace else.

“I’m just a wreck. I don’t even care how many times I’ve said it. I’m simply broken with an objective.”

Her eyes narrowed as she tied her hair up to a simple ponytail while balancing with the steering. Keeping on the same lane, Tessa then drove past the Ariake junction, and steered to the left, onto the short Wangan straight before filtering back to the ShinKanjou via the Tatsumi junction. The rest area nearby that section was what she was aiming for; if there was one thing she needed now, it was a good reliever with a can of cold coffee.

“Ugh, I could use a can of cold coffee right no-,” ash brown eyes caught attention of a familiar sight. “Isn’t that- why you…”

… … …

“Heh, I hope the big time gap of absence has forgotten our existence,” the voice in a form of Brian Keller was heard before the howl of the twin-turbochargers of his orange R34 overwhelmed him. “Oh great that sounds so cool!”

Other than his return with the Nissan, his appearance had very much changed. No longer was he draped with nylon. Instead, he was clad with simple brown Bermudas, white shirt and branded sports shoes. His hairstyle was very much different as well; a swept to the back look while colour was slightly towards burgundy. As much he was still with the group, he had not paid attention to the events that happened through the months. All he had been doing was doing odd jobs away from Tokyo, mostly at Kobe. Hence he assumed no one would remember the group’s existence. Or so he thought. A blue Vauxhall VXR8 came into his rear view mirror, with its headlights flashing ever so incessantly.

“Dang, what annoying dung! What’s with you, huh?” the American remarked, taking a closer look at the driver of the blue sedan. “Hold on a sec! Isn’t that- oh shit! It’s that blonde with the Gloria back then!”

“You’re not going to get away from me! Not this time round, son of a gun!” was Tessa’s taunts the moment she hit the Wangan Straight as her mouth turned to a wide leer. “The last time you did it to me, I almost lost my legs. Now this time, you better prepare to lose everything!”

The German could not care less whether it was only around afternoon, but the fact that her target was right front of her… She threw all logic away from her mind, and very much paid full attention to crashing her hatred to hell. For the very first time ever since that crash, her senses were back, though without the logic to back them up. Everything just felt alive and bustling unlike what the medication had done; all it did was just subduing her, restraining on what she could do, just to make her stop hallucinating. She felt her blood rushing through her body, as if trying to heighten her attention on what she was about to do.

“Time for revenge, white punk!” she hissed as she geared down into 2nd, and floored the throttle, aiming for the R34’s rear bumper. “Now feel how it’s like to get rammed! I’ll make you into huge sausages, and feed it to the dogs when you crash!”

Brian was unsure what he had to do before he received a harsh ram from the rear, literally had his head hitting the top part of his steering wheel by the force. Immediately, he made up two ultimatums; escape from that furious blonde, or fight back, turning into a dogfight. Getting into a dogfight was what Brian would often decide, but considering the time and the situation he was in… He had to escape, and quickly.

“Dang it, I can’t use the Wangan Straight since I’m heading for ShinKanjou, which is that blonde’s specialty as well! The hell with it, I’ll have to overpower her muscle car!” he thought as he floored the throttle, while the twin-turbochargers spooled the moment it hit the revs needed.

Traffic was easing out, but there were dangers in a form of trucks and buses. Tessa swerved to the inner most lane, then to the middle lane to evade a taxi, then a van, before she hit 3rd gear at 140kmh. As much the Nissan was trying to gain the lead, the blonde’s supercharger did wonders on the low revs as acceleration lunged the VXR8 closer towards the R34 with relative ease. An assumption ran in the German’s mind.

“Seems that his Skyline GTR has less power than he had last time. You forgot to do maintenance, punk?”

Without a hint of hesitance, Tessa went for another ram from the rear, while keeping her speed kept on rising. Brake lights lit up on the Vauxhall before steering clear of the middle lane, and onto the outer most one. As much she wanted to hit the rear bumper of the R34, a transit bus was in the way. No matter, her eyes were still fixed on that orange coupe with the hideous body kit. Tatsumi junction was just about a hundred metres away from where they were, and the German had the intention of making Brian spinout or crash at the divider when they hit the filter lane to ShinKanjou. Blasting past the said bus, and seeing that traffic was getting sparse, Tessa hit 4th gear at 200kmh before getting next to the R34. She wanted to have a good look at the one responsible for making her crash. A faint giggle left her mouth. She did not notice that fact; she was too pre-occupied about taking down Brian.

“I know what you’re gonna do to me, crash at that divider, eh?” growled the American. “How about I give you another one, woman?”

Casting aside his plans to make a quick escape, Brian began his escapade at ramming the blonde again. As much he did not want to do so, the thrill he does doing so simply excites him. Not a hint of regret engraved in his mind as he swerved, hitting the left side of the Vauxhall, hard.

“Ya want it? Ya get it!”

The side impact had Tessa shaken. She had not expected Brian to contribute to the ramming spree, but she knew that it might be his nature to do so should he get provoked. Both cars hit the filter lane to ShinKanjou. It was only of one lane, but the emergency lane substituted for the extra gap. Knowing the fact that she was nearer to the divider, the German eased on the accelerator, allowing the R34 to take the lead. If the divider at Tatsumi junction could not be done, then the one to the rest area would suffice. Still in 4th, Tessa floored the throttle, resuming another series of rear-ending the Nissan, this time harder. It had a certain effect as the rear began to squirm slightly. The blonde chuckled. All she needed now was a perfectly timed rear end ram to make the orange coupe into a spinout, and possibly, hit the divider. The road linking back to ShinKanjou was as narrow as ever; Tessa was used to it. Many racers who lost control in this section would very much end up wrecking their cars big time, and even end up seriously wounded. This fact was enough to fuel the German with twisted excitement.

The targeted area was near; the blonde made her move. Still in 4th, she floored the accelerator, allowing the blue muscle car to careen straight for the R34’s rear bumper with incredible force. As expected, the Nissan’s rear began to lose traction while the road surface turned moist due to the drizzle around that section of the Shutokou. However, as much she had rammed, the ATTESA-ETS Pro system managed to help the orange coupe to recover from such a situation. That riled the German. She downshifted to 3rd as speeds tapped 220kmh. The divider was drawing near; Tessa only has one more attempt. She shut her eyes as a harsh impact ensued. Tyres squealing were heard from the R34 before brake lights lit up. Ash brown eyes cracked open as she swerved the sliding Nissan. Not a word left her mouth. In fact, all she heard was pure silence, and time slowing down. Tessa knew that her Vauxhall was now next to the Skyline GT-R, overtaking and making a quick escape.

“Feel my misery, Brian Keller. Good riddance,” she muttered before a horrendous crash overwhelmed her.

Ash brown eyes took a glance at the rear view mirror as she witnessed the R34 hitting the road divider ever so spectacularly as the driver’s side hit head on first. That was the only thing she saw before looking away from the mirror. Just seeing that R34 facing the same fate as she had was just enough to release all hatred on it. Childish and wrong might be the words many would say about what she had done, but considering her feelings, she could not careless. If there was what she had to accomplish, she would do so; even if she had done it in broad daylight.

“Don’t start that I was at fault. Brian Keller started this stint by making Kagura crash, then myself. I’m just returning the favour double fold,” she uttered. “Now then, looks like I’ll have to find another repair shop.”

… … …

He could not believe it, as much he was searching for her ever since her discharge from the hospital; never had he known she would take her revenge all by herself. He knew all that, that crash she had made so brilliantly, but the fact she decided on a new car instead of the Gloria stumps him. After all, he was in that rest area all the while. Seeing that the blue sedan was making a quick get away… He had the urge, in fact a need. Ryou scrambled into his white Toyota Chaser, and gave chase.

“Tessa! I’m here. Wait for me!” was his jumbled thoughts. “It’s been many months too long since I last saw you. Tessa!”

Rear wheels spun viciously as the sports saloon left the rest area at incredible speed. If there was one thing Ryou wanted right now, it would be Tessa. Even though… Aikawa had expressed her feelings for him; he could not just accept it. His mind was still for the German. He could not just leave Tessa for Aikawa. Yes, they would quarrel ever so frequently, but that was how both of them expressed their affections. A weird love was what many would comment on it, but it was the fact.

“Tessa, I’m right behind you! Look at the rear view mirror!”

27th Stage
Aikawa

“Kagura, where did Motoko and Minoru disappear off to?” Twin-tails asked the albino, who was busy tending to her small garden at the backyard.

“Motoko went off to retrieve her commuting vehicle while Minoru went out to look at Tokiko’s progress on the Celica A60,” replied Kagura, who seemed to have a bit of a tan somehow.

“That tomboy is still working on her old Toyota? I thought she had given up on it after all these months,” Aikawa responded while grabbing her car keys. “Anyway, I’ll be out for a moment. Seems that I’ll be able to get that engine today. God it’s been a while.”

“All right, see you later,”

It was an hour’s drive from the dormitory where the junkyard was. But no matter she did ask the person in charge to keep the VG30DETT engine for him until she paid up. That was a few months ago, but the fact that she was able to find it in such a place had her in high hopes. Or so she thought. By the time she had reached the junkyard itself, the person manning the place was apologising profusely that the engine had been stolen just yesterday. He had been trying to contact Aikawa about it, but the call never got through; Twin-tails had turned her cellphone off, just so she could avoid a certain someone from calling. However, the fact that her hard work of collecting the money to buy off the engine from them was for naught. Until moments later, a truck came in with a wrecked, maroon modified vehicle, literally unrecognizable.

“This car’s been wrecked to hell. As much we liked having income into our junkyard, seeing a beautifully done car being scrapped just wrings our heart,” the driver of the truck commented as he spotted the owner of the place and Aikawa. “Hey, looks like you bagged another one of those wrecked tuner cars again. And hi there Aikawa, what brings you back here?”

As the middle aged man got off from the tow truck, the owner of the junkyard, none other than his own son, explained the situation in detail. The man in his sixties simply rubbed his chin, understanding the matter. That was not the first time it had happened. Once in a while, there would be instances of theft in the junkyard; hence it was a normal occasion for the old man. A proposal came up.

“Well, Aikawa, have a look at the engine under the bonnet of that wrecked car. It looks promising to me. Seems that it’s a turbocharged one, but I can’t make out what model it was. The only thing that needs working on is the intercooler, ECU, and the turbochargers. Internals are fine, but might need overhauling. If you accept on taking this engine, it’s free of charge. Just an apology due to the theft incident.”

Twin-tails was unsure on the offer, but if she gets an engine for free, it might be worth having a look. As the blonde popped open the hood. Though the car was beyond identification, she could assume that it was a foreign model, since she had not seen it before. Hence she assumed she would not find a VG engine under the bonnet. Instead, what laid in it was… she was puzzled. As far as she knows about cars and engines not from Japan, this one was a refreshing find. It had stock twin-turbochargers, but were cracked rendered unusable. The middle aged man interrupted.

“This is a weird find. As far as I’ve collected information about this car, it’s a BMW 335i, which was released in 2006. To think it was wrecked after the idiot took a short stint in the C1, and crashed brilliantly. Rich arse decided to scrap it and bought an M6. Heck, I’m not even sure what most of the car models are these days. I’m just reading it from the document.”

Twin-tails’ eyes widened. A new engine? That had never been a case before. As much she wanted an engine from Nissan, there she was staring at a BMW variant. A question popped up in her mind.

“What’s the engine specs?”

The old man began flipping the countless pages of the documents before he found it about a minute later, “It says it’s a 3000cc Straight-6, Twin-turbo engine, making 306bhp and 400Nm of torque. Redlines at 7000rpm. Code name of engine is N54B30.”

Aikawa was faced with a dilemma. On one side, she really wanted a Nissan engine, hence reducing problems when it came to installing into the S30Z engine bay. However, she has an urge to give this German engine a shot, and see how it performs, considering that it is a new engine. The blonde paused, before coming to a conclusion.

“I’ll take it,” she answered. “But first, I think we best try getting the engine out. There might be other parts that are still in working condition.”

“Well, let’s get working then. It’s been a while since we’ve done this. We’ll have a pickup ready for the engine to be transported. Just tell us where to deliver it to,” the old man responded with a laugh.

“Easy, Terao’s Workshop. There’s a car just waiting for the engine. Everything else is all dealt with and installed. All left is the heart to power it up and a ton of modifications so the engine could fit in,” Twin-tails replied. “It’s been a long time since I was away from the Shutokou…”

…Way too long, I miss the Yokohane Line…

A moment of silence ensued. The blonde was not sure why she felt it so. All she knew that it was heart wrenching. She paused at that time before gazing at the horizon, where there was just a glimpse of the Shutokou. Painful was one word she could describe, but there was another word that might be the possibility…

Loss… Aikawa knew who it might be…

“Ryou, you found her.”

… … …

ShinKanjou Inner Loop

Even though Tessa had not been easing on the throttle after intentionally causing Brian to crash his R34, she felt that there was something trailing behind, as if stalking her. She could not care less taking a glance at the rear view mirror; all she wanted right now was a repair shop to get the body back up to shape, and a new coat of paint. Past the Egawa filter lane, she eased on the throttle slightly, knowing that going all out in this particular section might be of a surprise. After dealing with two gentle right turns, then a left, Tessa finally downshifted to 3rd, at 180kmh. She knew what was coming up next, a moderate left corner. She had to be careful now in order to keep a big distance from the wrecked R34, and if possible widen the gap from the stalker. Speeds dropped to around 160kmh when the Vauxhall entered the turn on the outside. Ash brown eyes eased on the throttle the moment she hit mid-apex on the inside. She took a quick glance at the speedometer; 140kmh.

“Is that person still tailing me?” she thought, even though out of the blue.

By the time her blue muscle car exited the corner, and goosing the accelerator, she had the urge to steal a glance at the rear view mirror. Unsure was the word she was looking for, but considering the fact that the next few corners were going to need more throttle, and delicate handling control, she decided against it. Tessa swore under her breath. As much as the supercharger’s whine filled the cockpit with its jet-like tune, she could still hear the faint blow-off of the seemingly turbocharged car tailing behind her. One thing she was sure though, it cannot possibly be that damned orange R34. Popping into 4th gear at 200kmh, about mid-way past the Fukuzumi filter lane, she released the accelerator, allowing the VXR8 to slow down gradually before tapping on the brakes on the quick left hander. As much she knew she was able to clear that turn at a slightly higher speed, Tessa was still new to the Vauxhall. Any risk to this foreign machine would mean a hefty repair bill. Body repair on this machine was already starting to hurt her finances.

“Next one is the killer corner; past Hakozaki Junction, a severe left corner. Till now, I still feel as if it’s like a sharp U-turn,” thought the German. “And the exact place where I crashed in my first stint before I got the Gloria. I went full tilt in my red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution I, not knowing the severity of the turn. Such naivety I had back then.”

However, the problem was this; till now, Tessa had yet to figure out how fast she could clear the said turn. Her stint in the Gloria, the German only slammed on the brakes, and took the bend slowly, allowing any opponent she raced with to overtake. The blonde was very much stuck in a dilemma. The pursuer was still within range, and in order for her to simply escape from that, she had to find the highest speed possible to clear the corner. Her time to think of her decision slowly shreds away as the said bend comes ever so quickly. Cold sweat broke out on her forehead. For a long time ever since she was in coma, Tessa never felt so much pressure. Time paused at that instant. She came to a decision. The German floored the brake pedal and downshifted into 2nd. Revs sprung towards the higher rev counter, around 6000rpm as she feathered the throttle, while entering the turn. As much she did not want to know what she felt back then, it was fear that held her back. The first crash was already enough to think twice about cornering at high speed, but the second crash…

That made her think about her life in general. Even though she still has the urge to race, the fact that should she crash like how she did in the two previous ones, Tessa would be gone for good. Her body was not as strong as before. That, she knew. She felt her body weakening every single time she heads off to sleep. The medicines were what she calls her ‘life-support’ in order to keep her well. Heck, she was even hallucinating at times whenever the drug lost its function. She was right; puppet might be the word, and even what she is right now. Tessa was no longer controlling her life now; it was the drugs she had been consuming prescribed by the doctors in the hospital.

She shook her head to rid of the thoughts. As much Tessa wanted to brood over her weakness, she still has to check whether she had shaken off the pursuer. Nothing, not even the faint blow-off was heard as she took a quick glance on the rear view mirror. A sigh of relief left her mouth. All she had thought was a possible highway patrol car chasing after her, but it seemed it had not noticed the events happening. Skipping 3rd and into 4th gear, the German eased on the throttle, allowing the muscle car to cruise at 85kmh. As much she took notice of the rev-meter reading at round 2500rpm, Tessa still assumed that the engine was idling.

“Hmph, I still can’t get used to such a big, lazy engine. All I had was high revving, screaming ones, well, except for the Gloria’s V6, which sounded throaty for some reason,” she muttered under her breath, while staying on the far left lane; she had the intention to turn into the C1 Shinkanjou before exiting the Shuto Expressway via the Takara filter lane. “It may only be a quick stint in the Shutokou, but I best go low-profile for the time being. As long I’m still under medication, I can’t last long in the racing scene.”

Hitting the Edo bridge junction, Tessa allowed her VXR8 to lose speed to around 70kmh that is, until she heard the cries of the turbocharged engine, this time sounding harsh and raspy. Her eyes widened. She swore she had shaken off the pursuer, but it had not. The second she took a quick look at the rear view mirror, the said vehicle came into view on the outside lane. Familiar, she thought. It was a majestic white sports saloon with an aftermarket rear carbon-fiber GT spoiler, but with an additional front splitter as a difference. She swore she had seen it before, somewhere in the past. That was when a certain someone came into her mind, which literally threw her senses.

“The Toyota Chaser Tourer V. Wait, Ryou? Is that you? Is that really you?” thought the German.

She wanted to simply hit on the brakes and get out of her Vauxhall immediately, but the urge had to put on hold. If Tessa wanted to see Ryou again, they had to somehow leave the Shutokou. But then again, where would be the best place to meet again? Of all the choices she could make, only one was what she considered; none other than the rest area. The haven for highway racers.

… … …

The next ten minutes of entering the rest area, and parking her Vauxhall was the most nerve wrecking. As much she wanted to be as calm as ever when meeting Ryou once again, there was this feeling that she could not understand. Was it the fact that she really wanted to just embrace that man without any care of everyone witnessing such a scene? Her hands trembled, literally unsure how to respond. Her mind was in a mess; there was so much she just wanted to say at the same time. Tessa paused at that second before taking a deep breath, then letting it out seconds later. All she needed to do was be herself. That was it. Unfortunately, things were rather the opposite the second she saw Ryou emerging from the recognisable white Chaser. Tessa dashed towards him before embracing. She could not care less if other people saw them in such a situation. Just the sight of Ryou was enough to calm Tessa down.

Of all people that she wanted to meet after regaining consciousness, Ryou was top on the list, not Minoru. As much she has interest on the powerhouse, it could not win her over when it came to that rich man. She was not after his money; as much it was her intention in the first place, the German threw that plan out after the second crash. Now she understood why Ryou was keen on dominating only on the Yokohama section instead of spreading it to other areas of the Shutokou; both of them excelled in that area. Even though… they too fair well in the ShinKanjou. Rubbing her cheeks on Ryou’s chest, she let out a faint sigh of relief, finally letting her troubles at ease before she spoke.

“It’s been many days too long, Ryou.”

The man’s arms wrapped around Tessa, as warmth surged from her back. That had the German respond with a faint moan before the ever so troubled man replied.

“As much I wanted to see you, I could not bear witness you in bed, comatose. Sorry that I only visited you only once throughout your stint in the hospital. I had to set things straight on my side. I hadn’t driven my Diablo GT-R for a long time, and instead used the Chaser as a reminder. It reminded me of you, and what I have to do.”

Ryou paused for a moment, allowing Tessa to digest what he had said before resuming. “But seems that you have executed your revenge on that blasted one who made you crash.”

“The only thing I’m puzzled right now is how you know that I was driving this instead of the Gloria,” the blonde asked, still wondering on that.

“Easy,” the brunette responded. “Aikawa told me about it.”

That had the foreigner realise how much Twin-tails knew about their relationship, and even the possibility of hurting Aikawa’s feelings in the process. That had Tessa the urge to push Ryou away, and tell him off to reconcile with Twin-tails instead. But the fact that she had told Ryou about Tessa’s status… The German felt guilty for some reason. She could not make out why, but she just felt responsible. The brunette’s right hand brushed her hair.

“Let me be responsible for your health. I don’t care if you turn ill, or even feel broken. I’ll be responsible from this point onwards. We need each other, Tessa. That, I know, is the fact right now,” Ryou comforted her with those words.

The German shut her eyes, before replying, “I know, Ryou. I know.”

From that point onwards, all Tessa knew was one thing; she finally wept.

6pm, Kizuato Car Services

Aikawa’s right fist applied pressure on her chest, as another heart wringing sensation kicked in. Leaning against the wall, she gasped for air for a few moments before pacing her way into the garage where her S30Z rest, waiting for the engine. Even though the old Nissan had a long bonnet, will it be able to take in the BMW engine? As far she knew about a Jaguar V12 engine in the same car, all the blonde could hope that it would fit. Of course, Terao was not that impressed when he saw a German engine instead of a VQ one.

“Are you out of your mind? What if the engine won’t fit? You’ll still have to get another engine and abandon this one,” complained the middle aged man before lighting up another cigarette.

“Ever heard of taking risks? Remember the time when I got that VG engine instead of the L28DET, which you keep suggesting? Look how it ended up, it made me as ‘Ace of Yokohane’. That’s why I’m taking chances on this one as well,” was Aikawa’s counterattack. “Hell, I’m even willing to spend my budget on tweaking and even getting the car running again; got this engine for free after the VG engine I had in mind got stolen.”

A sigh left Terao’s mouth, unsure on how to respond. He admitted, he had been proven wrong back then. Maybe Aikawa was right, who knows, she might strike another big one with this straight-6 engine.

“But whatever it is, it’s as if the Germans took our Japanese technology and made their own straight 6 twin turbo engine,” Terao commented.

“When the engine configuration was first created in 1904, in Britain, by D. Napier & Son Limited? More like it returned to its roots in Europe,”

“Are you a racer or a historian? Let’s get working on this machine. I got Nagase to get two turbochargers, and a race spec intercooler. Only those were left out when you bought the parts piece by piece over the months. Only you can decide on the boost pressure after we get all these installed.”

“How many days do you reckon we can pull off this one?”

“Considering that all three of us are car nuts, what do you reckon? As soon as possible! All right… maybe more than a week or two to think it realistically. We got a lot to do; tons of it in fact.”

Wangan Aftermarket Body Kits Services

It had been a while since Minoru last heard from both Tokiko and Hellena, heck, it was as if they have cut off communications back then. But when he called few hours ago that he would be dropping by to have a look at the progress, it seemed a bit strange. Tokiko somehow sounded a bit cheery at her end of the call. That possibly meant one thing; her Toyota might have been completed after all these months. That was what the powerhouse wanted to find out. Instead of simply barging into the garage, like he always does, Minoru decided to sneak in.

“Not myself to do this, but seeing them surprised when I appear out of nowhere might be a good thing,” thought the brunette before opening the door slightly, though it creaked a bit. “Damn it.”

His eyes took a peek at what’s inside, before he took notice of the two familiar figures working in unison with the workers of the workshop to install the new front end of the Celica. As much Minoru admits, it does look like an exact replica of the Group B variant. That was when he noticed Tokiko being out of character.

“It’s a fit! Finally!” she cheered, literally hugging the petite Hellena, who was busy tweaking the engine.

“Careful!” she warned before releasing the wrench. “I could have broken something on that engine!”

That was when the tomboy paused, “What tweaks?”

“Bumping up the power slightly, heard that you have had 550bhp for a long time. We’ll see how much the car has on the rolling road later,” Hellena responded, being a bit technical. “I guarantee you it’ll not go past 600bhp. I was planning for better throttle response, and minimising the turbo lag.”

“So, what did you do? Mind you, I only have one turbocharger in the Celica.”

“Twincharged. You know the small amount of the budget that went missing few weeks ago? I siphoned from there to purchase a supercharger from a wrecked AW11,” the silver eyed lass replied ever so coolly.

“You could just tell me that you’re planning on that, Hellena.”

“I could, but considering your foul mood back then, Tokiko, you would deny all that in the first place.”

“Cheeky you are,” the tomboy remarked, sub-consciously hugging the petite lass from behind.

“Am I seeing something spectacular?” thought Minoru. “Is Tokiko and Hellena-,”

Take note, this prose will be on hiatus for a while. I am at the moment writing another prose not based on racing. I'm taking a long break from writing racing based proses. Seems that I have exhaused myself of ideas for the upcoming chapter.

However, once I get it going again, my next post will be the next chapter...

If you're wondering that prose I am writing at the moment, it'll be this...

Anna (Genre: Suspense/Angst) [No, there's no emo shit in it]
Short info for the prose if you're wondering...
1940, the year where the Axis Powers were at its peak in the Second World War, however, in Germany itself, there was someone... trying to find her own existence in this hectic time, even if by means of losing her sanity...

Back in for a small update. Been a while since I last have a look on this story, however, I have a chance that I would make another chapter by squeezing a bit more of my brain juices into it. I've been going to and fro from an arcade near where I study, and been getting few ideas here and there, as well as new music sources from an online game (Granado Espada) that really gave the Maximum Tune's songs a run for their money.

Here are the songs that's driving me back to this story at the moment. Hope to get the chapter done and posted by the end of the month.

Touch-Me-Not - SoundTeMP

Toccata and Fugue in D - S.F.A. (By far the most annoying yet unique at the same time.)

Anyway, from the new music inspirations, let's just say, I have a gist on the upcoming chapter...

- Hmm, time to get this old Celica a run in the C1 Outer Loop.

Tokiko

- *Just a few minutes into the test run* Something's coming for me, and fast. What kind of car would go that fast in such a cornering demanding portion of the Shutokou?

Sagara

- Oh yes, been a while since I last wrecked my A31 Cefiro back at the Wangan Straight. Let's see how it performs now. *Chats in via radio* Look like we'll be able to see Tokiko around here. Almost a year since we last heard from that tomboy, right?

???

- You could say so. My SVX feels better now with a bit more power. I guess having only 350HP for the Shutokou was lacking. 520HP makes it feel much more alive here, though I doubt I can handle the power in the Akagi Mountain course. Your Cefiro makes about 600HP, I assume?

Sagara

- Used to pull out 450HP actually. Now it does 660HP, though I feel it has more. What the- Am I seeing things?

???

- What?

Sagara

- Is that an A60 Celica!?

Tokiko

- I see them, two cars in fact. Time to hit the gas pedal and see how the twin-charged Celica does now.

Sorry to break a bad news, but I've decided to cease writing on this story. However, this sparked off a good news....

..............................................................................

Racer 666: Shutokou Wars Overhaul
By: Outlaw02Extreme

Every fracture and crease on the road tell a story,
Be it a crash, the line of victory, or even a new beginning,
But few stories show of those being revived after a long disappearance,
Especially when one used to be the terror of the Shutokou...

Prologue

1999, the year where most racers on the Shutokou witnessed the most menacing vehicle ever to exist. It had yet to be defeated, and everyone that raced against him would result in a crash, be it minor, or fatal. Little knew about the driver behind the wheel, let alone the power the machine produced. However, spotting such a vehicle was easy. Recently produced, it was tuned and modified by Tommykaira, and further upgraded by the owner as well. 450Bhp was the power it initially had after being tuned from the said company, but over 800bhp might be speculated with the modifications done by the unknown driver.

Many that had raced against him would have the same comment. No matter how far or near they are, the menacing scream and howling whine of twin turbochargers produced from its engine caused demoralising effects. Many nicknamed it the 'Japanese Stuka', while others refer it as the 'Berserker', considering its wild driving nature it had. However, as far as images go, the machine was no special, customised vehicle at all. Peeling away its hellish nature stood a docile, tamed Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec R34. A machine renowned for its swift handling despite its size, with the modifications, it had transformed to a blood red Tommykaira RS R34, then to the beastly monster it had become.

Visual upgrades were striking; cursive writings on both sides of the doors that spelled out 'Tommykaira R' that was supported by four tyres with stock, six-spoke gold-orange rims. Its stock rear wings had been replaced with an all carbonfibre box spoiler mounted in a GT1 car fashion while the front bumper was replaced with Tommykaira's make, having a more pronounced look and a front splitter, assisting with downforce for grip. Its last encounter was by far the most rumoured among the car enthusiasts, tuners and racers alike. The damned machine went against the Shutokou's number 1, who owned a black, VG30DETT powered Nissan Fairlady S30Z. Being referred to as the Fallen Angel, it launched the duel from ShinKanjou Clockwise with a third party racer in a silver, A60 Toyota Celica. No one knew how the race went, but the result ended with the Fairlady in a total wreck, instantly killing the driver just a few kilometres into Wangan Outbound.

The Tommykaira R ceased its dominating presence ever since. No one knew where it had disappeared off to, nor the exact location of where it was stored. However, it was sure that its disappearance spawned several impostors claiming to be the owner of the Tommykaira. It was the sure sign of the demise of racing in the Shutokou, and it was the low point of the highway scene.

Seven years passed ever since the last encounter of the Tommykaira R. Most of the racers in the Shutokou had moved on, upgrading their vehicles to greater levels, and fighting for the title as the 'Dominator of Shutokou', last held by the Fairlady S30Z, which had been wrecked and rumoured to be revived by a little known owner. No matter, that was a start for a particular person, who had only a year's experience in the highway. As a novice, he had fared well with his white, 300bhp Honda Prelude Type S, even better on wet conditions. He had not known anything about the Tommykaira R, but it would be time soon when he come to know about it...

Especially when he bought a dormitory, not realising a garage within the compound that had never been opened for years.

This hence begins a new story, and possibly the revival,
Of a machine that should not have existed,
Be it from a new driver, be it a new setup,
The untamed power under its hood shall scream again.

---------------------------

Yes.... a major remake is underway. What stopped me on the previous version was the shaky beginning. I'm going to mend all that.
