sorry bout double posting but watch this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjmyt52-c8cGT-R vs Z06 All car forums going bananas over this This what a guy said while i was posting about this vid in supraforums Ok class is done. I am officially a certified GT-R technician. 1 of only 5 in this region at the moment. We had a guy from Canada in class too but he is not in our region nor NNA. Canada is a different nissan division all together [NCI]
Here is my take, as best as I can put to words anyway.
What I know: Listening to this car just sitting there idling you know it wants to go. It sounds like a current day race car sitting in the pits waiting for the officials to start motions.There are noises that are normal for the car, so many noises that the average car owner would be saying what is wrong with your car??
The design and build phase of this car was not budgeted. They had an open check book. Everything they could have done to give this car the highest amount of performance and still meet EPA regulations on a street driven car was done. This car has some of the most high tech Sh#$ I have ever seen in a street legal car and some track cars. This car was built as a race car first then trimmed down to meet regulations and electronics added to turn off the race car so the average joe can drive it.
If you buy this car and try to drive it in automatic mode around town you will be hating this car very quickly as the shift pattern in auto mode absolutly sucks! This car has a 6 speed manual transmission in it. However it uses 2 wet clutches similar to those used in an automatic trans. These clutches are used to control the 2 gear shafts. The reason you can shift this car in .2 secs is becuase the predictive software already has the next gear selected so the shift itself is not really .2 secs. The .2 refferes to full engagement of the first gear to the second.[the amount of time it takes for the clutchs to release one shaft and apply the other] This is almost unnoticable. You have the desire to release the gas pedal when you shift but you dont have to. The transmission I think is the most high tech part of this car as far as new technoligy goes. I am very impressed with it.
The engine is symetrical, the right intake feeds the left bank and the left intake feeds the right bank. This requires an intake balancing from time to time. The turbos are capable of 24lbs of boost at max. The block and heads are alluminum, the cyl's have no steal liners. Yes the cyl walls are alluminum however they are treated with high temp plasma spray which prevents wear as long as you use the 0w-40 full syn mobil 1 fluid. The oil pan and valve covers are made of magnisium. This requires special sealer to prevent electralisys between the engine and covers. There are many many more trick things on the engine.
The brakes as you know are brembo but they are also revelutionary for nissan. They are not mounted the same as the old stuff and are very particular in how you do a brake job so the car will stop right.The pads material are made of sinthered iron the rotors are cross drilled and have a special diamond vaining also covered with zinc. When I replace a set of rotors and pads I have to go drive the car around at 60mph for like 5 miles with my foot on the brake to burn the zinc of the rotor contact point, this requires me to get the rotor temp up to between 575 and 750 degrees.I am then required to verify it with a temp gun. Then I get to seat the pads after that. Then I have to bleed the brake system and put in a special brake fluid designed just for this car. Its called r35 gtr brake fluid. It is a varient of dot 4 fluid but has additional properties for the high heat conditions.
prices:
These are dealer cost on parts as of right now. So these prices do not include dealer mark up.
Engine= $28,000
Transmission= $18,000
Trans fluid= $90 dollars a quart [takes 10 qts]
All pads and rotors [have to replace all 4 wheels as a set for proper operation] $7400
My opinion:
For a street legal car this is a hella of a car. The amount of performance introduced in this car is insane. This is why I am beginning to understand nissan stance on the warranty and why they there are so many stipulations. The fact this car is truly a race car it is understadable why nissan has so many stipulations. They know there are drivers out there who will know how to properly operate this car and get the most out of it without doing damage to it, or at least acceptable damage that the owner would be willing to pay for. But they also know those are professionals. The reason for their concern and legal disclaimers is for the guys who dont know how to properly drive the car and screw it up from thier own stupidity. They know these guys [the ones who buy it as a penis extension] go out showin off in it and blow up the trans. [This is the weakest point when something goes]. If you flip to page 52 of the maintainence manual you will see nissans expectations about the trans. If any of you get a chance look that book up on nissan!
