QUOTE (rb240tuner @ Mar 30 2010, 06:59 PM) | I am mating an RB25DET with a 240SX hatch. In fact, I am about to drop $2300 for the mount kit and other crap to make it easier to install. |

It's all about the SR20s that either came out of or are being dropped into Civics that are fetching Nissan motors a sweet premium for Race Wars.

No the mount kit from McKinney Motorsports is only 1100 but there's other stuff that I want to buy to enhance the driving pleasure. Besides I found just the mounts and stuff for a lot less. McKinney just makes a great set that is well known across the US. I will get the less expensive mount kit then buy the driveshaft from McKinney.

A single cam RB isn't worth the 5g's I wouldn't think cause I got my RB25DET for 2000.

Really? Do they have a site I can go to? I would definitely buy a better driveshaft but how much do they run? I do know the yoke and the tranny won't go with each other. I am working with very limited funds. Besides it's only a daily driver and this driveshaft is only going to support 400 whp.

f**k all that RB20, RB25 bullshit. Sounds like a waste of time and money.
Get an SR20 and call it a day. If you need big power, call Tomei for some upgraded rocker arms, and a 2.2L stroker.
I know of a Brand new S15 SR20 without a manifold or turbo for 3500 USD roughly.
Otherwise, pony up for an RB26 and build it.

You do know the RB25 and 26 match parts correct? I can switch heads or even manifolds. Why do that when you can do the same with the RB25 block and heads, you can do to a RB26 block and heads. Now if I wanted to go RB26, it would have to be from scratch as an N1 block and build it from there. And I am tired of SR20s running all over my town like they are going outta style. There is no RB25 swap in my town that is complete.

The intake and exhaust manifold on an RB25 are unique to itself.
Yes you can use an RB26 head on an RB25 block. But that is a waste of time as they BOTH have severe oiling problems from the factory if you remotely plan on pushing or abusing your motor. Basically you have all the bullshit problems that an RB26 has with little aftermarket support and close to same modification costs.
Then you would need an RB26 Crank, and rotating assembly to support a bigger oil pump drive, and the reliability modifications.
Which is why it's a waste of time unless you have a lot of cash to burn. You are looking at 3000-4000 dollars in the lower rotating assembly parts alone including all reliability stuff.
People modify chrysler sebrings and pt losers too. Hey, it's different and it's cool but in end of the day it's still gay and a big waste of time + money.
You don't need an N1 block to build it, a standard 05U block is fine for anything under 500 horsepower.
Why did I recommend an SR20? It's cheaper to go faster and reliable. The main weakpoint is the head, but Tomei solid rocker arms fix it. Do some homework on this subject as it's a dead horse thats been beaten already.

If he's dropping it into a 240, RB25 really is the way to go. I'm sick to death of trying to help people without plasma torches install 26s into tiny tiny engine bays. Just remember, if you have the money to do an RB25 right, make sure you had the money to do an RB26 right because it's gonna cost about the same to build properly. It's just more practical to do 25 for that Chassis. get to 400hp and call it a day is my suggestion if you are DDing it.

For daily driven reliable hp, SR20 is really the way to go for a factory turbocharged motor.
It's a factory fit engine, you really cannot beat that either way you slice it.
I would hands down take even a KA24DE-T over an RB25. At the OEM KA crankshaft is fully counterbalanced. Hell, I would do 1jz-gte, 2jz-gte, 2jz-ge-t, before an RB25. I can't name one good thing about that engine where I could convince myself to say, YES I WOULD SWAP IN THIS MOTOR BECAUSE OF "X".

QUOTE (Oddmanout84 @ 1 hour, 48 minutes ago) | KA24DET.
Get better rods, pistons, keep the displacement, strengthen the internals. Go pick up this month's Dsport mag, they're doing a build on one and it looks promising. An RB motor is not for you if you're on a tight budget like you say. |
^This and speaking of factory fit engines- Think of your mouth as the engine bay of your car. The one on the left is the KA or an SR. The one on the right is an RB26. Of course a lot of people want to eat the bigger, meatier burger... Catch is, if you want to eat it you have to be able to eat the whole thing without biting. As an S chassis owner, your mouth is going to be smaller than the GT-R owner... Result- While the burger may be tasty it's gonna hurt getting in there and take forever to chew.... Also when you're done you'll realize the RB actually had a lot of lettuce and not as much meat as you had originally realized. .... I probably shouldn't post while hungry should I?
