I just roamed around the world wide web, and to my surpirse, there's actually another Japanse Car Culture Manga out there aside from Wangan Midnight and Initial D...

Shakotan Boogie

Its a story about low-riding street racers based on cars from 1970s-1980s platforms. Its cool as it features KGC10 (Classic Skyline GTR) and the Datsun 240ZG! and much much more! It also circles the lifestyle of picking up girls, cruising...

Here's a captured caption from his website:

Next up is my personal favorite, "Shakotan Boogie" which I use as my screenname on several car forums. This manga is was also written by Michiharu Kusunoki. This manga is actually based on a fairly unknown live action movie from the mid 80's. It is set in the small city of Kochi, on the island of Shikoku. This series is not only about racing like Initial D or Wangan Midnight. It is about picking up girls, getting in fights, cruising around , being goofy, and other things besides just racing. Three of the main cars of this manga include an S30Z G nose, GC10 Skyline, and an MZ10/11 Toyota Soarer. Other cars I have seen include-

Nissan Z31
Nissan Leopard
Toyota TE27 Levin
MA70 Supra
AMG Benz
FC3S RX7
Other European and American cars

Outside of Japan, few are familiar with Shakotan Boogie. Even in Japan, only car people are into it. There was also a four part anime series based on the manga that is available on VHS. Recently a number of model cars from the manga have been released in Japan.

and here's another:

Michiharu Kusunoki has done another manga called "Tokyo Broker" where a Dodge Viper GTS is featured prominently, though it is not really a racing or car manga.

Lastly, there is a more recent manga called "Countach" that features a number of 70's and 80's exotic cars like Porsche 928's, Ferrari's and of course Lamborghini's. Japanese cars are present as well. The one book I have has a mountain race between an AW11 MR2 and a Lancia Stratos. The artwork in "Countach" is more detailed than older manga.

and one more he said he will discover!

Besides the one's I mentioned there are other car manga in Japan, though I do not have any issues of these. One of them is called Garage Restore 251, which I saw on Grand JDM I hope to track down more hard to find car manga in Japan.

Unfortunately, as far as manga goes, these are nowhere near the top in popularity so they are extremely hard to find outside of Japan, and of course are only available in Japanese. Despite this, these car manga offer a unique look at Japan's car culture through creative and talented minds.

To learn more about this car-guy, check out his webbie at:

www.auto-otaku.com

These car mangas keep on coming! I can't wait to see anime versions of these to emerge soon!!!

Well, if you can read chinese you can check out that HK manga. It's called "Downtown Dangerous", it mixes some aspects of wangan and touge. It's decent from what I've read and seen.

There is another Japanese one, can't remember the name. It's about a former rally driver, who takes to the touge with his rally-spec Starion. I don't believe it has been translated, but it looks good.

Between those two, and the rest that others have listed, I hope you can find something to entertain you. ^^

Yes, I would say it is. It is a little more...drama oriented. But, it's still a very good manga.

éX-Driver is an anime series set in the future. It's kind of street racing but kind of not.

In the distant future people no longer drive cars themselves, instead relying on AI (artificial intelligence) computers to drive their cars for them. But when these AI systems start losing control and running wild somebody has to stop them. éX-Drivers are the people who are able to operate the older mechanical non-AI dependent cars who chase down the AI cars and stop them.

Characters:
Lorna Endou (遠藤 ローナ, Endō Rōna?, Seiyū: Yoko Asada)
A good-hearted girl, who drives a Lotus Europa Special.

Lisa Sakakino (榊野 理沙, Sakakino Risa?, Seiyū: Miki Nagasawa)
Lorna's ex-Driver partner. She used to drive a Subaru Impreza WRC in the first episode which was wrecked had to be replaced with a Group 4 specification Lancia Stratos HF from the second episode onwards. Initially, she was not on good terms with Sōichi but grew to like him as the series progressed.

Sōichi Sugano (菅野 走一, Sugano Sōichi?, Seiyū: Yumiko Kobayashi)
An extremely-talented 12 year old. He drives a Caterham Super Seven JPE and a modified Daihatsu Midget II (second episode only).

oooh take a photo when they're on. I'd like to see! Your car would fit nicely with an Ex Driver sticker since most of the cars from the show are older cars.

Bari Bari Densetsu is anime OVA from the same man who brought us initial D.. It's a motorcycle street racing anime which was made even before Intial D.. But I can't find it anywhere or translated..

There is a cartoon series called Wacky Races, Which is like a huge rally which I haven't seen but looks pretty cool and funny.. cool.gif

And I will re-edit my post.. I thought of another one.. Which is a proper japanese manga rally one.. SS: Special Stage ( There is a Live Action for it coming out )

Yes that is Special Stage the one I was talking about..
