Sorry for the necropost.
I think my preference for first-person is a holdover from my ID days. I just held on to it, and most others did, when we started switching to MT1. Then when I came back pretty much everybody was using third-person.

I like to think it's easier to build a line in first-person, when you're level with the road you can remember what point to take action at. Plus there's also the rear-view mirror which can help to block opponents.

However, third person lets you see traffic. This is probably why people started switching at first, an opponent's giant ass blocks you from seeing those goddamn yellow cars and you hit them more often. A top player at my arcade likes to hug the walls in between traffic, which is probably easier if you focus on your car's edges.

I stick with first-person because it's more immersive, and therefore more exhilerating.

I just feel that it gives you more blind spots.

First person is probably awesome for time attack, but I see no merit to it in battle, where visibility is key to defending your position.

But of course, opinions xD

Third person for me as when you exit a corner when you take a dangerous line, you could well see if your rear will hit the wall or not. But what Myth_21 said.

never use 3rd person everytime I play racing games..cabin view (like the one they have in battle gear and Gran Turismo 5 will be better)..so for me 1st person is the best

I used to play 1st person but when I put some dress up parts, I realized: "What's the use of dress up parts if you'll just show the tachometer and speedometer?"
That's how I switched to 3rd.

It depends, I mostly use third-person on MT since I think first-person moves too much while in other racing games like IDAS or Gran Turismo I use first person to judge the corner entry correctly.

Always third, I only use first to see how far behind my opponent is...
