QUOTE (SuperjakkoTM @ Yesterday at 2:22 PM)
Right peeps... I have got the most awesome copy of episode 7 & 8 (in uber resolution) and i've timed and formatted the subs (which look the t*ts!) in AEGISUB. As soon as I can work out how to hardcode them in, i'll post them up (it's beginning to flummox me a bit at the moment. I desperately want to keep the formatting that I have as a .ass file). I'll keep thee all posted as soon as...

Use an AVISynth script. Load up the DirectVobSub plugin, and have it overlay your subtitle file onto the video stream directly. Plus AVISynth scripts are tons faster than VirtualDub filters.

Done it! I watched it back and noticed a couple of minor mistakes so i've just gotta tidy that up when I get home tonight. I streamed from my pc to xbox 360 and watched it on my 50" LG HD Plasma and it honestly looked as good as my Spirited Away DVD (res wise). Also it's in 5.1 channel Dolby so if you've got a decent audio set up you'll be real happy I'm sure. I'll see thee in the wee small hours!

I didn't mention this earlier as I didn't wanna step on anyone's toes. Also, I'm sure Nomake Wan has received countless other offers. However, if either of you need help I'd like to extend my hand. I can't translate and I know very little about encoding, but I could deffinately offer my time towards timing and typesetting. I saw a few posts back that was part of the process Nomake Wan thought of as being the most tedious. It just so happens that's the area of fansubbing I'm most intested in.

I haven't been doing it for long and I'm basically learning as I go, so I understand if you're hesitant and want to do it yourself to insure the best possible product. I just thought I'd put it out there.

Right guys and dolls, here is the link. I don't know how long it'll stay active so someone may need to take care of hosting it but it should be good for around 2 weeks I think. Things to bear in mind... This is the first time I have subbed anything. I have had the software for a week or so, so go easy on it and don't just dis the crap out of it. If there are any mistakes to the translation then just go with it, it's pretty good anyway. And finally, there is a spelling mistake in there (I spotted it last night whilst watching it for the millionth time) but I just wanted to post the damn thing by then. I'll rectify that whe I get a chance. It's a little bigger than you're used to but you'll see why when you get it. In the meantime, enjoy it... please. When you click the link it'll take you to a download page. Right click the file to save as, don't just click it!

Wangan Midnight Episode 7 DVD

Like I said, go easy on it. It's my first time.

Why WMV? Just asking...why not a more usual format like AVI (using XviD or DivX) or MKV (using h.264 and softsubs)?

Downloading now, will check it out. Great job on getting a release done! Have also added the download link to the first post.

EDIT: Just finished watching your subs.

First off, I'd like to begin by saying thanks for fulfilling a need that hasn't been met until now. Hopefully you'll continue like this, since you seem to have made a nice product in a fairly short amount of time. Congratulations.

The translations, for the most part, are there. There are some issues with context, but since the overall meaning of what's being said is conveyed, the subs pass. If you'd like me to break it down in detail, contact me and I'd be happy to walk through it.

However, it's your encode I'm astounded with. I see that you used Encode360 to create it (which explains why it's in WMV... I'm guessing you're an avid Xbox360 video watcher rather than a computer-user), but did you use anything else for post-processing? And what raws did you use? Q-R's DVDrips, or the actual DVDs? My only complaint about the encode is that you didn't normalize the audio in the 5.1 track before putting it into the final encode...so it ends up being very quiet. I had to turn my computer's volume up to full to hear it clearly. But since it's WMA instead of AC3, that completely sidesteps the issue I thought you would have with including the 5.1 track, that being compatibility problems across computers. Congratulations on that as well.

Overall, great job. I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that we're glad to have you around.

I'd be happy to seed a torrent, but before I create one I wish to get Superjakko's permission first. I'd also like to know what he would like put in the fansub tag. [SuperjakkoTM]? So yeah.

By the way, something I didn't notice in my original scan of the media file was that while you may have told your encoder to use the 5.1 track as source, it did not encode to 5.1 WMA. It encoded to 2.0 WMA, so you were better off using the 2.0 track from the DVDs.

Go ahead and torrent it dude. I just wanted to get it out there. I used encode 360 to do it because I don't know how to run scripts. After trawling the net looking for a simple solution for keeping the formatting of the .ass file and adding it to the matroska file as a hardcode I was getting nowhere. Like Evel Kneivel, as i'd committed to doing it I was determined to get it done and out for all to see. Now someone has got it, let the sharing commence. I'll get the next episode ready tonight and then post it up like this one.

I'm actually uploading it to what may become Wangan Midnight Expressway's new file host as we speak. If this server goes well, I'll have to port over all of our music and such to it. I think that serving a new episode of Wangan Midnight will make a fine stress test for the server, don't you think?

After the upload is complete (one hour and 40 minutes left), I'll create a torrent for it and begin seeding.
