Wrong again! DVD = 480p = Q-R.

If Superjakko's source "dried up," then the torrents are just dead. Too bad.

Just because a river dries up doesn't mean it didn't hold water. wink2.gif

Q-R's releases are 768x432, not 480p, also, they destroy the 30 fps opening and ending by forcing it to 24 fps so it stutters rather than using VFR. SuperJakkoTM's encodes were a lot better than Q-R's, except for his audio - for that the AC3 from Q-R's is better.

The hell? As far as I saw, the only source for decent Wangan rips was Q-R. If it wasn't Q-R, then where the heck was Jakko getting his raws? He wasn't encoding straight from DVD, was he?

I'm lost. I guess I don't particularly care since I have all the DVDs, but I always figured that Superjakko was using Q-R's rips as source.

He got the subtitles from a friend, not the raws. No way do the HK Bootleg DVDs look that damn nice. No way.

whatever raws he's using, they aren't Q-R's or any raws I've seen available on the net. He's either ripping straight from DVD or he's getting them from someone who is.

I'm curious though... mind enlightening us as to where you get your raws jakko?

edit:
QUOTE (SuperJakkoTM)
With regards to the sound, they are matroska files with the sound in 5.1 channel already. I didn't rip them myself so I have no control over that. If it's too quiet burn it to DVD with ConvertXtoDVD and watch it on your TV the way it should be. It's such a great quality rip, watching it on a PC screen is always gonna be less enjoyable. I'm in no way having a go at anyone who chooses to watch it this way but it translates to the big screen a whole lot better. Trust me (although I'm not a doctor, just a Superhero).

based on this, he's using MKV files from somewhere... Q-R's rips are AVI iirc.

I thought that Q-R's were MKV, that's why I always figured he was using Q-R's.

In fact, it makes me wonder if his WMV encoder isn't taking Q-R's raws, re-encoding the audio and upscaling the video to 480p.

OK tongue.gif in 99%...

But I would like to understand ep13 in 99% too. Unfortunately it's only 60-70%.

I'm so weak in English, or his style is a little bit 'different'?

I wondered that at first too, except the OP and ED make it clear that it isn't being done that way. Q-R's is jumpy at 24 fps, his are smooth at 30 FPS... you can't make a 24 fps video back into a 30 fps.

I'd recommend Q-R's version for 14 if you're looking for raws, only 13's been subbed:

I wasn't using the QR raws. They were from a generous bunch of guys who'd got them "from source". I'd love to tell you where but they're not in English and so would just be high res versions of the files you can't already understand. Plus, I feel quite privileged that I was able to get them in the first place. Sorry I haven't been on here in a while but I've just managed to cobble together a pc from crap bits. My original computer died and so via the donations of a mate of mine and a superb little pc shop in the town I've bashed together a bit of a frankensteiner. I don't have working sound on my pc yet either so for the short term I can't sub (but only the short term!) Anyway, I'm back (hopefully) and therefore back in at the deep end.

If we're looking for raws, normally we'd expect them to not be in english blink.gif

Nope. They'd look crap. Upscaling DVD players may make a reasonable job of "Upping" the amount of pixels by fudging them and then resharpening them but that is not what I did. Making the files bigger doesn't make them any better quality. The files I've used are not scaled in any way. You people are getting what I do but with the bonus of English subtitles. And they are WMV files because the only way I can get them to hardcode the .ASS subtitles retaining 95% of the formatting I use to start with is to use encode360 (which is for formatting all kinds of video files so that they'll play on an xbox 360). There is no conspiracy here. If you don't want to watch mine then don't download them. And if you want the original files I used then search for them like I did.

rule num.1 of digital video: Despite what you may see in CSI you never can get more from an allready compressed font..
even compressing it again to a similar bitrate may imply loss of quality (alltought imperceptible)
Superjakko explains it ..is like recoding an MP3.. if you got it at 128 and you recode it at 196 or 296 ..you will not get it better.. you may even loss quality for the compress loss

Hmm...just an innocent question out of curiosity...why is it that the episodes page still hasn't been updated? It's been a while now. You all must be really busy! And this page doesn't have ep. 13's subbed version up on the first page yet either. ohmy.gif

Anyway, looking forward to the next episode. Subbed, of course. Wouldn't have it any other way! Sorry if I'm going off of your topic about quality of the episode 13 sub...but since I can't contribute to the subbing, the least I can do is say thanks! Thanks a bunch! happy.gif

Upscaling 432p to 480p, with proper filtering, actually would look just fine. It's not like I was suggesting upscaling from 480p to 1080p or something. laugh.gif

Anyway, cool on your raw source. I'll go ahead with my own DVDs then.

I wouldn't know how to upscale it if I wanted to. I've come into fansubbing from a "design for print" background and it's all new to me! The idea of blowing the image up to more pix for print has until now been quite poor but I've just got a smart photoshop filter that allows me to do this pretty well, and so I assume the same would be available for movie files. Anyway... the releases I used for my versions may well be nearly round for the next 2 episodes so we'll have to wait and see.

In an aside, I've also managed to get sound back on my home pc too. I had to replace the motherboard and after I'd put it back together I had to go into the BIOS and turn that sucker on. End of problem!

Are the movies on the DVDs in 480p, Nomake? What do the DVDs retail for in your part of the world? In England you can't even buy them unless you're happy with Malaysian knock offs.
