QUOTE (SuperjakkoTM @ Yesterday at 1:12 PM) | I wouldn't know how to upscale it if I wanted to. I've come into fansubbing from a "design for print" background and it's all new to me! The idea of blowing the image up to more pix for print has until now been quite poor but I've just got a smart photoshop filter that allows me to do this pretty well, and so I assume the same would be available for movie files. Anyway... the releases I used for my versions may well be nearly round for the next 2 episodes so we'll have to wait and see.
In an aside, I've also managed to get sound back on my home pc too. I had to replace the motherboard and after I'd put it back together I had to go into the BIOS and turn that sucker on. End of problem!
Are the movies on the DVDs in 480p, Nomake? What do the DVDs retail for in your part of the world? In England you can't even buy them unless you're happy with Malaysian knock offs. |
we can get the R2 version for 61 bucks a volume at yesasia.com
QUOTE | The files I've used are not scaled in any way. |
well, technically they are scaled from 720x480 > 872x480. Normally it's best to rip them at 720x480 and set the container to adjust the aspect ratio to 16:9 in the player (IE anamorphic 16:9). One thing I'm curious about is why you used 872 rather than 848 or 853, 872 is a bit too wide (on top of the fact it's not even mod16). Did your source just come like that?
QUOTE (Nomake Wan) | I'll go ahead with my own DVDs then. |
Does this mean you're going rip them?

Congrats on your home computer fixing! Anyway, I wasn't actually saying you were upscaling them on purpose, but was instead musing that perhaps the encoder you were using was doing it on its own. I know that some encoders for Xbox360 and PS3 have presets for certain resolutions, and will upscale based on those presets automatically. No worries though, I'm not gonna pry into your trade secrets.
As for the DVDs, I acquire mine from Share. Those silly Japanese and their penchant for placing expensive Japanese DVDs in ISO format up on anonymous P2P are legendary.

Yup, that's what it means. I'm rather partial to converting DVD->huffYUV(720x480)->h.264(720x480) in Matroska and letting the container handle the 16:9 conversion. Yay for anamorphic widescreen!

QUOTE (Handz @ Jul 15 2008, 02:25 PM) | Does anyone know of a MKV version of 13 & 14? I really need it. |
Repack it then...

Sweet! And VFR too for the Op/Ed If you're planning on subbing any more eps (you released a few eps as HG-F right?), feel free to ask me for help (maniacdc at gmail.com). I've some fansubbing experience and can do pretty much everything but translate and karaoke. I normally encode, time, edit, and QC. I'm also a perfectionist so you wouldn't be dissatisfied with my work.... This post has been edited by Maniac on Jul 28 2008, 12:10 PM

QUOTE (Nomake Wan @ Jul 28 2008, 05:59 PM) | VFR would be nice and all, except it's a royal pain when someone goes to rip it. I know because they did VFR for the OP of the "Shuffle! Memories" episodes, and when I went to rip the OP out I discovered that the framerate was flucuating and thus VirtualDub didn't know what the hell to do. That took some doing to get right, haha.
We'll see. And no, HG-F is a different person. All my releases are as OMFG. If it doesn't say OMFG, it's not me.
Thanks for the assistance. I'm not sure at this point when I'll get back into the swing of it.
DVD 10 and episodes 21-22 still aren't on Share, either... |
ah ok, you were OMFG. My first experience with VFR was a bit crazy too, but you learn it (BTW if you're doing x264 use megui, not virtualdub ). And I haven't had to rip a VFR dvd yet, just convert an already ripped VFR encode to x264 (which might be easier). Well if/when you get back into doing it I'd be up for ripping it too, from the VOB's of course, if you'd want me to (and I'd be willing to spend the time for getting the VFR to work). Just make sure to contact me via email as I don't check the forums very often.

QUOTE (solshido @ Today at 8:05 AM) | i clearly know that, but i wanted to ask the question because i know people are curious about it. and about patience, to be honest i don't care if the eps come out, i know the story by playing the maximum tune series. |
S'all good. Sorry if I sounded a bit direct. I kinda dont know the story, there really aint a MT arcade round ere and are the stories all the same throughout all the series? (Not that MT has any relevance in this thread, sorry) Ive only got the PSP version, but its in japanese & well, I only know 2 languages, english & bad english I am very keen to see these eps out and I'm sure everyone else is too & itl happen when it happens. The storyline is certainly starting to get interesting
