I'm split on the donation idea. I think it's a good motivator, but at the same time, donations will never give you job security at your existing workplace, nor will it replace the learning you gain from college. Meaning, subbing still can't take precedence over life.

I'm thinking of doing a TV special on Sunday. If I can secure the time, I would like to do a TV broadcast showing everyone what's involved with the subbing process from start to finish. I'll be doing episode 3, so those of you who were expecting me to start where the other subbers left off will be disappointed. There's nothing I hate more than having to get a series from multiple sub groups. With that in mind, I want to start with episode 3 and work my way onward.

The benefit? You all get to see the real work that subbers put into this, and get to see why it's not as 'simple' as all of you who've never even done it seem to think it is. Also, you get a free subbed episode out of it.

Sound like a good idea?

O and when i said psp moding on the last page i dident mean firmwere(that IS easy) i ment housings, led mods, theme creation, and gameboot making smile.gif. I would like to know when it is so mabey i could tune into it too.

So you're going to start from ep3, where you left off?

I'm just trying to understand the logic here, not trying to criticise, but... why go to the effort? Do you think the other subbers didn't do a good enough job? Are there errors you want to fix that will significantly change the storyline?

It just seems like it would be of more benefit to the "community" to carry on from 12 or 13 where others left off, THEN go back and fill in from 3 if you so desire. It would suck for you to start at three, get through say 8 or something, and run out of steam. What purpose would that serve but redundancy?

I understand where you're coming from, with subbing consistency and such, but based on how far others have subbed ahead of your original progress, it's my humble opinion (take it with a grain of salt) that your time would be better spent starting where others have left off first.

Us non-multilingual people that rely on subbers like you have a different viewpoint, and I feel like most would agree with me on this... We haven't gotten to understand and immerse ourselves in the eps past 13 like you have, so I think starting from there would be more beneficial.

As for the documentary type deal about what all goes into subbing, that sounds like a fantastic idea. I'd love to know all the intricate details, actual timelines on how long it really takes to complete all the nitty gritty stuff, etc. I wish I was talented enough to sub, so getting a glimpse into it would be sweet!

I cut out all the rest of your post from my quote because your whole point was based around the concept that the currently-available subs are accurate. So I stopped quoting you right when you asked if they were. They aren't. That's why I'm starting from 3. Criticize all you like--hell, plenty of people here love criticizing my decisions, lol--but I refuse to change my mind. The subs here make me cringe. HG-F got things fairly close. SuperJakkoTM corrected grammatical errors in Babelfished Chinese->English subtitles, and it shows. Darkzero... I would have to go back and check, I don't recall.

Fact is, I'm not satisfied with the subbed episodes available. Hell, I'm not even satisfied with my own versions of 1-2 (though that's more crappy encode). So I'll be starting with 3.

Thanks for the boost of confidence with the documentary. It'll be a live broadcast, when it happens. You'll be able to watch and chat over IRC live (though the IRC interaction may be limited by the fact that I'm concentrating on doing the actual subbing work).

So far it looks like I don't have work on Sunday, so the show is up for grabs. What time works best for you guys? It can be any time from 1 PM Pacific Standard Time to 8 PM Pacific Standard Time. That's my time zone, please compensate for accurate results.

Fair nuff biggrin.gif

So will you be able to do Ep 3 from start to finish Sunday, or will the documentary segment only cover a portion of it?
Bout 3 Pacific? Kinda depends on how long its going to take, which only you know wink2.gif

Wouldn't it be possible to do EP 20-26 first.

They were better looking and more exiting and in this way if you run out of steam at least we know how it ends shifty2.gif

And I hope you didn't forget ID battle stage 2 whistling.gif

Here, lemme translate your post. *electronic static noises as his translator boots up and reads your post*

HAY SKIP TO 20+ EVEN THO IT'S NOT EVEN WHERE SUBBERS LEFT OFF CUZ I WANT THOSE EPS SO IF YOU STOP THE ENDING WILL BE THERE BTW IDBS2 STILL NEEDS SUBZ YOU DICK SO YOU BETTER NOT STOP OLOL

*clicks translator off*

Whew. Think about what you're saying, next time! As I've already said multiple times, I am going with 3 and working my way up. Once those are done I'll re-release 1-2 using the DVDs. You guys are not changing my mind on this, I'm a stick in the mud about it. laugh.gif

TrumpetRhapsody: The whole point is that it'll be from start to finish. The only part not shown on TV will be distribution (because it requires all of my upstream bandwidth and thus would kill the TV broadcast if I did it).

3 PM Pacific sounds cool. Any other takers?

LOL At least I tryid laugh.gif

I have a good example of my fears

It looks like someone(s) have subbed "Future Police Urashiman" , quite an old anime

Welll so far he (they) subbbed the first 40 out of the 52 episodes. But recently no new episode has shown up and this really sucks cos the next ones are the key episodes which show how the main story unfolds and ends.

I would have been way better to skip all the filler episodes and do the relevnt ones for the main story first and the final ones of course. Then if they wanted they could have done the remaining filler.

I was wondering as well why you wanted to start at ep. 3, but now that you explained how the subs weren't accurate (more or less) It makes sense. And I am actually glad to see this series portrayed as it was meant to be, like the first 2 episodes were. Im excited.

Thanks for all your work Nomake

Sorry for the delay. I was invited out to lunch with friends. I'm back, and the show will be on in 12 minutes!

The show link will appear at the top of the forums, or you can grab the recording later.

See you in chat!

NSV files will play back in Winamp. I'm not sure what other players will play it.

Thanks for all the encouragement, everyone! I'm running the DVD encode while I'm at work, so hopefully it'll be done by the time I get home for the final muxxing.

Hello everybody. Not been on here in ages! Was kinda hoping to see that someone might of taken the torch and run with it but alas not. What episode did you guys get up to? (subbed into English I mean). I have a source for some nice high quality non-subbed rips that I could do my usual good English / crap Japanese translations of. I can do 13-18 if that's any help.

The reason I've not been around is because (apart from being exceptionally busy at work) I design the online magazine for the ZClub. It's a UK based club for drivers and fans of the Datsun / Nissan Z/ZX series of cars. It has members from all over the world and it's kinda like my thing. I do the magazine in a really trick Flash page-flip format (with page turn noises and everything!) The other reason I'm always busy is because I have 3 kids and they are fun but a big handful (my missus now works evenings so I get home from work and have to carry on working 'til I put them all to bed, leaving not an awful lot of me time).

It's cool that Nomake has decided to go back to grass roots and start over. It's a lot of work but it really is worth it in the end.

Sorry for the delay in replying, looks like our server's DNS has been having issues as of late.

Yesterday I went to work leaving Super running the encode. When I got back... Super wasn't finished! It had locked up using all my CPU but wasn't doing anything! GRAH! So I looked into alternatives and found MeGUI, which I fed my AVIsynth script for DVD ripping and let it run. The encode finished late last night, and it looks spectacular. Now I have to finish up the last touches on the sub file, mux to Matroska, and upload to our FTP.

I'm not sure if that'll be today or tomorrow since I'm working like crazy, but I'll try to get it all done ASAP.

Episode 4 ETA: ????. This Saturday is my Japanese Culture midterm, and my next day off from work is next Wednesday. Ugh...

Hey man, take it easy. I'll be more than happy to start a donation bin for you if you feel that it'll be more justified to spend your day off subbing Wangan. I'll be honest here, I wouldn't do this for free. That's why I am truly grateful that we even had/have free subs.

And thanks for dropping by, SuperjakkoTM. smile.gif Your time spent subbing is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, it's unaccessible unless you joined the ZClub which is £15GBP or around $22USD for the year. I can show you the cover though to show you what I mean. I'll be doing a stripped out 'taster' version which I'll post up somewhere when it's done but it's essentially show reports and z related stories by club members that I dress in a fine suit and publish. Not everyone's bag but I like it...

Sorry for the minor thread hijack. Anyway, looks like I'll be starting from 13 and doing to 18. I'll do 13 & 14 together and release at the same time (so the peeps who've followed me from ep 7 can have a nice constant product that doesn't just change in the middle of the story). See y'all again real soon.
