well first of all i have many hobbys, rc cars & model cars are few of them but recently at home i ditched out a few mini 4wds & parts so WHAT ON GODS NAMES EARTH ARE MINI 4WD????

well mini 4wd are kind of like a rc car/model kit, u basically it a 1:32-sized car that runs on battery without the remote & while the rollers on the car makes the walls of the track provide for the steering mechanism 2 make the cars steer there should be no less then 4 rollers on the car but u can add more

the car is put 2geter like a model car but with out glue since it all snap on

Mini 4WD can be purchased in hobby stores or online. Few companies do not include an electric motor required for the car to function. The car can be powered by AA batteries, including rechargeable batteries. Its body frame has a frontal bumper extending sideways to hold the rollers for the tracks. An optional plastic bumper for the rollers comes for the rear of the body. For 4WD (four-wheel drive), traditional models conjoin the front and back wheels with an aluminum rod; as for the Mini 4WD PRO series, the motor located in the center of the body powers both the front and back wheels. The assembly package should come with a grease for the gears. Although the internal designs for the Mini 4WD's remain the same for the models of the same series, a plastic cover, which attaches with a lock at the back of the car, distinguishes one model from another; additionally, the wings on the plastic covers allow for improved down force and stability.

this is just a basic start on the mini 4wd & Assembly

the mini 4wds has many animes like Dash! Yonkuro in 1989, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go in 1996, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go WGP, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go MAX, Let's & Go!! Tamiya, The Movie
(some of this is from wikipedia)

none of the pics are my cars cuz i can't find my camera so no mod cars from me but the stocks u see below are the models i have but these are other ppls pics so i will not post a lot but feel free 2 post ur cars

Gosh, sure brings back memories, me, along with my bro, cousins, friends, yada yada yada used to play with these a lot. They are very cheap and affordable, so naturally, everybody has a large number of cars in their collection.

Haha. I discovered these babys when I was in grade school and I went over to a friends house. We played with his mini 4wd cars on his track and Lylat wars all night. Brings back great memories...

I still have my X-Chassis Lightning Magnum and uhh another X-Chassis car with no perm cover. (I want a Max Breaker TRF :< )

I'd like to continue to join tourneys but hell, today's competition is much more high leveled than in my grade school days. god.

Still hate those 3:1 Brocken Gigant with Torque Tuned motor. friggin like FD's in Hakone. All techincal tracks have Brocken-G's as their podium finishers.

I'd still like speed-technical courses. <3

hm, mine is blazing max with VS chassis, minimalized its weight to the limit (japanese official mini 4wd tournament weight limit is 80gr, if i'm not wrong, and mine is 85gr tongue.gif)

nyah, plasma pawned torque tuned motor dude..
have you tried hand-winding your motor?

err, isn't 3:1 really slow on corners?
i usually use 3.5:1, 4:1 or 5:1..

Didn't expect a thread about these little babys. I use to be really heavy into it about 8years ago. First one i got was the Boomerang something.. Later switch to the Cyclone Magmum then to the Buster Sonic.

The old school scene was a lot more restrictive. I believe the motor was only either the atomic, rev and torque with only 6rollers max. Their was also a width restriction which i can't remember. Everyone basically had the same design because of the restriction.

4 years later, my friend was playing it and I had a stash of parts. So I joined him with a few friends. The whole scene changed. Their was no more restriction (maybe my area only). Anything you can do to it with the mini4wd parts is legal. I still used the old school restriction with another friend. We were still one of the fastest at the tracks.

Here was my final set up:
Car: Dark Blue Buster Magmum (TZ Chassis)
Motor: Torque (Orange)
Gear: 3.5:1 with BB using mixture of ceramic/titanium grease
Front: Smoke FRP Plate w/ 9mm BB, underside blue extension with smoke FRP Plate for added weight.
Middle: Cutted Smoke FRP Plate w/ custom stablizer/brake (7mm BB on top using a long screw.
Back: Smoke FRP Plate w/ 9mm BB
Others: 2x Gold Plated Terminals, motor support, hollow shaft, hollow shaft drive gear, circle ball bearing, Aero Wheels and 14x lights (12x under rear wing and 2x on side of body)

Reason why i have so many lights were, my area's weekly tournament was free. Top 3 gets a gift certificate($15,10, 5) for parts that must be use that night. I placed top 3 a bunch of time and when I didn't have anytime to get I just got lights and kept adding them on. The lights didn't slow me down.

i had these back then, now they're on their boxes...
- sonic saber
- tridagger x
- rising trigger

btw, i think there is a new edition of mini 4wd's, they're called the mni 4wd pro... the only significat difference is the motor placement.... it is located in the middle of the chassis, sandwiched by 2 AA batteries, making it stable since the COG is located in the middle...

Isn't hand winded motor not allowed on official tamiya sanctioned tourneys?
Well, i don't know but the tourneys i joined banned 'em.

I see some players using plasma for the technical courses but, it just eats out your battery a lot. Well, 3:1 is good for that jump-and-then-sharp-turn setup for technical courses since it will prolly slow you down just right before the ramp else, if you are using atomic tuned, you'd prolly jump over the track = lose. (well, this set up works if you don't want brakes, since it the latter part having brakes will prolly stop your car in the last legs, since battery changing isn't allowed..i think :/ )

- - -
recent tournaments that I inquired about had their players using really low tyres, they shaved it down to the limit clearance, for more traction since the organizers doesn't care shit about the tracks, its all dusty. so they need a lot of traction.

@calx zinra
most tourney here have no rules but little. i think the only rules is "you must use [brand] alkaline only" so ppl use hand winding motor, extreme body cutting+shaving.. using little or no cover at all..

well, official tourney surely banned them, but self hand-winding motor is fun, really. *already have some motor burnt tongue.gif*

for myself, i tuned mine according to official rules, to add self-challange tongue.gif

here's mine.

I burned a whole car (LOL, no). Like the motor went through the chassis and smelled really bad. Well I just burnt the motor part but the chassis can't be reused again so might as well buy a new car.

GOD I WISH I CAN STILL PARTICIPATE IN ONE. but finding a decent tournament is much harder now, and parts have become rare. :/

Photo of my car that is still intact, the other car is just dissembled.

ok pop quiz:
What do you find in these slot car races (min4wd) that made you hooked to it?

-I find it cool to see your own car go through a corner like hot knife through butter with the sounds of the bearing/aluminum roller ripping the side walls. and don't forget the color blur!

I used to have about 2shoe box full of parts until about 2months ago when I trashed it because I needed more room in my room. Their isn't any mini 4wd in my area no more. Atleast not that I know of. I use to play in Japan Town in San Francisco all the time on the weekends tournaments. Too bad I trashed my mini 4wd. I had a customized Cyclone Magmum shell that used big wheels painted white/blue that was pretty unique.

Not much parts has really change since I stop which was a long time ago. I notice that some of the pic shows you guys using 1way small wheels. I was always the standard big wheel as they have a higher top speed and weigh a lot less. I match it with torque for technical and rev or atomic for straights. It did hang with the plasma and ultras.

For me, it was the pure feel of racing and just about everything that comes in building them. You feel like a chief mechanic as you set up how the car will run but can't controlled once it on the track.

Try out tricks that might benefit you or might not. I cutted threads into my tires when the track was dusty. Shave the tires flatter for extra traction. Had a loose driveshaft so when the car jams in a turn it would free up the front wheels to lower the chance of flying (almost like one ways). Using 2gold plate terminals because it felt like it conduct more power to the motor.

Anyone else wants to share some of their tricks?

they were kinda cool and the way you customize them makes you consider the physics and stuff, kinda like tuning a real car or something close to it...

i use to have a 3lane track with lap timer. my group won 1st place in the official Tamiya 5lane race in the Cherry Blossum and got a free track. smaller track was good to test stability on the overpass and good for lap timing.

the 5lane track use was really sturdy and hard. it puts a lot of stress on the car when it hits the wall during a turn. it was a good experience but they could have did a better job on it. their was about 170 people that sign up. they didn't mix up who race who but just go down the line which i find them being lazy.

BTW, my sister has a Proto Saber JB but she didn't play it
