I guess, you do the exact same thing on the rear end for Porsches.

Remove 8 subframe bolts, drop the rear subframe on a specific cradle, remove the rear bumper and get to the engine.

Next step: give the car a proper stance instead of something that belongs in the monster truck show.

LMAO, I know.

But not too much, it doesn't need to be slammed. I'll be getting larger wheels and tires soon, hopefully that will remedy the problem to an extent, and fill out the flares. Really the only other thing I can do is cut my springs... which I won't be doing.

EDIT: And I can't go too much lower anyway, the exhaust rides lower than the frame rails. I've also been thinking about converting my strut casings to coilovers, maybe.

The rims are stock 14", which I painted flat black to "get by" for now until I can get new rims. I'd like to get some Watanabes, but they're hard to come by in the measurements I want at a decent price, even going through Rinkya on yahoo auctions didn't come up with too many results.

well i hope you DO find watanabes, because i want to see pics of your S30 when its "finished." wink2.gif and im sure everyone else does too. lol

Im sorry, I have to agree with BMWNeoType. Your car doesnt need to be lowered too much, a 1.5 inch drop would be nice with so lower offset wheels then what came with the factory!

But, you are in the middle of getting it running and drivable so I understand. You have your priorities straight my friend!

Funny thing is, it already has lowering springs, which dropped the ride height about 1"! laugh.gif

I'm hoping the wheel tire combo I'm looking at will fix the issue and fill out the flares. 16x7 +15 offset front, 16x8 rear 0 offset, with 1.5" spacers all around. My biggest issue is finding tires that will close the gap, lower the car and look good at the same time. Oh yeah, and they gotta be grippy.

lol, its never finished. NEVAR.

Konig rewinds are nice, but they don't come quite to my liking (in appearance, price, and measurements). I'm picky, I know. These are what I've been lusting for since Wats seem to be out of reach at the moment: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-Sportmax...emZ290245152193

aw, wtf... It showed correctly until it posted. Try this one. http://www.nlmotoring.com/XXR-513-Wheels-1...-p/51358082.htm

I've seen them on a Z before, and I liked the look.

That vid was a major source of inspiration for me, but I had actually decided on the orange/black 432 scheme well before I saw it. You wouldn't catch me pouring sake on my motor though, lol. Especially not on a rare, extremely expensive OS Giken head that's worth more than everything else in the car combined. I find it funny though, as my Z sounds much smoother than the one in the video. Maybe its the fact that they're running carbs.

It really kills me though, how out of reach Watanabe RS wheels are (as seen in the vid) unless you have deep pockets. Even if I had bought them while in Japan, I'd only have saved myself shipping costs so I'd still be putting down over $2 grand. That's enough to buy me the "knockoff" ebay wheels, tires, spacers, strut bars, sound mat and just about a full rebuild for my turbo L28 motor. Ummm... take your pick, lol. One of my friends says he's going to disown me for this, but in an extreme case of form/function like this I'll take function in a heartbeat.

I say keep the stock ass wheels until you got the money to buy the real shit.

I run stock wheels on my FD currently. 'Cause I dunno what I want yet. : /

Knock-offs just won't do the car justice and wheels/stance is one of the first things people notice about your car, if you're gonna do it, do it right. If people see you cheap out on wheels, they probably won't think too much about the rest of the car.

I know when I see some Rotas or some shit on a car, I just laugh at it. Just screams "I'm a cheap f**k"

Well then its going to be a looong time before my Z gets a new set of wheels. $2320 for a new set, shipping not included. That moves my get wheels priority well after the engine swap and further suspension upgrades, because I'm doing nothing less than the best possible for the turbo motor.

I can share your sentiment, to a degree. But even though they were both riding on sportmaxx 002 wheels, my two favorite "budget" S30 turbo swaps I've seen are using ebay wheels. Both also run some high end parts, but most consist of junkyard finds and Macgyver-esqe solutions. Phil's Z is a bit on the rat-rod side, but still amazing (search for "turbo 280z" on youtube and you're bound to find at least a few of the dozens of videos he's made). Comprezzed on youtube (also a HybridZ member under a different name) also has a few vids of his amazing car. I saw it in person for the first time last October, and when he told me it was mostly made of junkyard parts and ebay finds I nearly did a backflip. Even the inside of his engine bay is rattlecanned.

Do I like their choice of wheels... well... no. I think the XXR 513 has a much more suitable spoke pattern (I won't even mention Wats, they blow everything out of the water). But do I think it makes the car as a whole look crummy? Also no. I don't think anything less of the build quality either. These are DD's and weekend fun cars, which is what my Z happens to be. Not everyone has a show car budget. However I totally agree that these knockoff wheels would be unacceptable in a show car.

That being said, the plan has always been to get the Watanabe RS's from the get go... eventually. Just don't hold your breath waiting to see pics of my Z wearing them, 'cause its going to be a while before I can cough up the cash. And I might just get some knockoffs in between, because these 14's with their truck tires make handling a little soupy... wink2.gif

~~~~~~Sorry for getting this thread so off topic.
As nice as the build and the car itself is, to put all of that money into it and then cheap out on the wheels, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
Not only that, the wheels are gonna be heavier, shittier, blahblah etc etc I can go on and on.
I mean $20k+
With ebay wheels.
No thanks. I don't care how nice it is.
I got quality forged 3 piece BBS RSs for $600 a set. 17 x 9 + 20s. Shop around.
If you want quality, you can find quality. The Z is a world class sports car, that deserves quality wheels. Not philipino or chinese made junk. It's not whether it's a show car or not.
If you don't care for it, or are lazy or somehow have some kind of "justiciation", then that is a different story.
I have seen shittier looking cars last much longer built on quality parts vs. pretty looking cars that are built on ebay parts. It's the difference between a cute girl that has a great personality vs one with a bangin' body that has a shitty personality.
Buying quality used parts is not a bad thing either, so you can do it on a budget and do it right!
Its easier said then done since 2k is a lot of money and wheels are very easy stolen. Can you imagine seeing the car in block stands and the wheels are gone?
Actually, I agree with that.
I would have a problem if she had an STD.
Wheels are not stolen if you actually take the time to protect them (Locking lugs, and a few other precautions taken). And if you have a nice car, uhh, maybe a garage?
Exactly. You can't do the whole nice car thing without a garage. Parts of town where houses don't have garages are parts of town where I don't want my car to sit overnight.
