QUOTE (Nomake Wan @ Yesterday, 4:40 PM) | If I were still admin I'd ban you on the spot just 'cause. Maybe that's why I'm not admin anymore, hahahaha. Fail.
To those saying that the movie followed the Anime/Manga faithfully, I must disagree. I've already posted my reasoning for that.
To those saying that the movie was horrible and inaccurate, please keep in mind that it wasn't really designed to be. A movie is an INTERPRETATION of the original work. It's not a 1:1 copy, nor will it ever be. If that's really what you expected going into it, then you were fooling yourself. I mean, you could've seen by the trailer that it wasn't going to be. Come on, now.
I invite all of you who said the movie sucked to go watch the original 1990 film. Then come back to me and tell me this one sucked. |
I agree with you exactly This live action is good compare to some of the others I've seen
compare to Initial D live, Wangan Midnight live is much better

QUOTE (Midnight Star @ 5 hours, 23 minutes ago) | All those bashing on Initial D, yeah it was a bad interpretation of the ID story, but it was still a great movie. A movie can be good even if it's not accurate guys. |
I disagree. The only upside to the ID movie was that the cars were interpreted correctly. Other then that, it seemed like the directors were trying to fit all the events leading up to 3rd Stage into one movie. The story was horrible yes, and the entire movie wasn't even Japanese. Not to mention that Natsuki was ugly. The WM movie was a lot better, it followed the story better, they changed a few things here and there but at least they didn't rush things and only took it up to episode 7 or 8. The cars in Wangan didn't exactly look like the anime though. During the last scene where Akio crashes, if you look carefully whilst the car is upside down, the burning car has a different set of wheels. As for the characters, they were done well, except for Akio's teacher, i didn't like her at all. Reina was fine but I didn't really like her either.

I like how Natsuki was the only Japanese person in the movie and she's the "ugly" one. I also see lots of people saying Reina and such were ugly too... so it's hilarious, in my opinion. My only complaints about the ID movie were that they f**ked up the gauges (one scene, they have the speedometer sputter and die LOL) and that it's in Chinese so I can't understand it. Otherwise, I enjoyed it. Though I enjoyed Wangan more... but that might be because the main characters are both Kamen Riders, and because it's in Japanese so I actually know what's going on.

On Wangan Midnight - The Movie:
A friend bought the DVD in Japan and I watched it over the weekend. I personally liked the movie a lot. The cars were nice, even though they were not 100% accurate to the manga or anime. I think the biggest failure was the wrecked Devil Z was a 2+2. It's like, they didn't even try. As a car-lover, I had a blast looking at all the beautiful cars in the movie.
The characters were good. Their personalities may not be the ones we see in the anime, but I thought it was interesting to see some differences. In fact, these "live action movies" are only interesting when there are some differences to the original work. It would be boring to see the same story over and over again. (The manga, anime, and movie versions of Death Note were all different, and each one was successful in their own rights. Now THAT is interesting, and well done!)
I think the most successful aspect of Wangan Midnight - The Movie was that it managed to capture that certain "feel" of the racing world, of the street racing culture, of the reasons behind why each character is going at it on Wangan. This connection between the acting and audience is what makes it a better interpretation of the original Wangan Midnight made in the 90s. I'm not saying the original movie was bad, because I liked that movie too.
I enjoyed and respect each of the interpreted movies of Wangan Midnight. It shows a lot of creativity from the director and actors of the movie. (This is the same reason why I enjoyed watching Initial D - The Movie.)

Just saw the movie. It was pretty good. There were many differences rather than similarities such as Reina driving an R34 (which fits her quite well IMO), Jun Kitami AKA "The Tuner from Hell" is missing , Akio and Tatsuya have longer hair, Ko-Chan drives and FD with a big wing rather than an FC with normal wing and his fro doesn't look like a fro, and Akio drove a modified Z32 rather than a what I assume is a stock Z31. QUOTE (Lorenzo* @ 8 hours, 53 minutes ago) | i have no idea what the matter is with u ppl. the car at the end IS a z just with defferent wheels. plus theres no sequel to this its all over. the film had no attachment to the tv series. |
If you say there's no sequel, then you're a naughty-naughty person who didn't stay in the theater to watch the credits. If you had, you would've known that there's a sequel. Also, if you freeze-frame on the car at the end, it's not a Z. Sorry, but I own a Z, and that's not a damn Z. It has a similar enough shape to pass as one, but it's something mocked up so they didn't have to make a real Z explode.

Lorenzo just got PWNED by N1. It's true, he does own a Z. Thinking about asking Takenoko from TV-Nihon if he and the group is willing to sub it. I might get banned or something, but it's worth it since most of their subs is better than OoZ. This post has been edited by JZX100 on Jan 19 2010, 08:51 PM
