QUOTE (HateSkylines @ Apr 9 2011, 10:24 AM) | I want to drive an AE86, and see what the hype is about. Ive ridden in a few, but I dont think I can base a judgement off that. |
I had an 86 before I got into Z's. I'm not talking down on the 86, so hopefully no one mistakes what I'm saying... but...
To be honest, I'm much happier in my S30. The 86 was alright, I wouldnt say its worse than any other car, but it's an 80's econobox. It's not a car that I would really call a sports car from the factory. Though, because of it's RWD and weight balance, it has a certain allure and it can make for a pretty fun car. However, I do think that pound for pound the first gen Z's are more interesting to drive and to look at. I feel th 86 has been overly hyped thanks to Initial D and the drifting scene.
Once again, I'm going to clarify that I have respect for the 86 and I do think it's a good/fun car from a tuning standpoint, but I have no intention of ever getting another one.
That being said, I do still have an open mind on the subject. I'm not a drifter, but I would be interested in driving one that's set up for small technical tracks or autocross. At which time I'd be more than willing to change my opinion if the car impressed me.
