QUOTE (HateSkylines @ 1 hour, 0 minutes ago) | Saw the bulletin on GT5s News Feed today, very pleased with this. Now only if they'd bring half the tracks back they got rid of like:
Midfield Raceway Apricot Hill Special Stage 11 Pikes Peak Hillclimb Course Twin Ring Motegi Super Speedway
Then I'll be a happy person. |
I agree with this list. However, they did bring back Motegi for GT5 as DLC.
A few others I'd add to that list: -Seattle Circuit -Costa di Amalfi -Citta di Arria -Tahiti Circuit -El Capitan -Hong Kong -New York -Seoul -George V Paris -Opera Paris -GT4 Chamonix -Grand Canyon -GT3/4 Test Course (SSRX is WAY too long)
You might notice that alot of those are from GT4. That was one thing I loved about GT4...the large track selection. It had over 50 different locations...and DIFFERENT locations at that. Like, those locations ranged from Times Square in NYC, to a typical racetrack setting like Le Mans, to the scenic Yosemite National Park (El Capitan), to the desert, and tropical paradise. GT5 just does not have that.

GTPlanet recently had the oppurtunity to sit down with Jim Ryan, president and CEO of SCE Europe, to discuss the business end of the GT franchise. QUOTE | Regarding the DLC, it’s obviously going to be a big feature of GT6. How do you see it progressing and growing in the future beyond what it already is in GT5?
“I think that we very much cut our teeth on DLC with GT5, and I think there’s a real desire to make a quantum leap with GT6. Plans are not yet disclosed so I can’t talk in detail about what they are but there is a real desire to make a step change and take it to a whole different level. And, you know, other games in different genre have demonstrated what’s possible in terms of providing a much longer and deeper consumer engagement and monetization, so our ambitions are to make a big jump.”
Are you concerned with the excitement around Gran Turismo 6 competing with the PlayStation 4?
“No, I think they are complementary. Obviously, it makes the job of marketing more difficult, because it needs to be carefully done, but I think the two can co-exist perfectly well. In fact, there’s a lot of evidence when you have a lot of noise in the gaming category, everybody benefits, even across platforms. While we recognize the issue and it’s definitely one that needs to be looked at carefully, we’re not concerned about it.”
Was there any particular reason GT6 was chosen not to be launched on the PS4?
“It goes back to a point I made earlier – there is definitely a lot of unfinished business on the PS3, and I urge you take a look back at the iterations of GT and GT2 side-by-side; the difference is amazing. You’ll see a similar step change between GT5 and GT6. Another difference is the 70 million install base on PS3 – it’s very attractive for a developer to target a game on that platform.”
Since there is such a large PS3 install base, will we be seeing any new accessories or steering wheels for the console?
“It’s an area that’s been looked at very carefully. It’s a very good question and one I’m not able to talk about in too much detail right now but its an area where we’ve been very active, certainly in the North American market and we’re going to look at the European market more. I really can’t say more than that!”
So steering wheel accessory sales are generally much higher in Europe?
“Yes, in absolute terms, software sales are higher in Europe, but the sales of peripherals are generally higher in North America.”
How do you look at the Middle Eastern market?
“We put a lot of time into the area, and we now have a significant management team there. In the old days we had no marketing budgets there, but now we have proper marketing budgets. I’m there at least two or three times a year, and it’s becoming more important as time passes, especially as economies grow and disposable incomes increase.”
The racing game market in general is becoming much more competitive. What do you think the Gran Turismo brand needs to do to keep its dominant position in the market?
“I think you’re right, like many genres it does become more difficult and competitive. We have certain aspects, like the realism of the game, that’s something unique to Gran Turismo and the quality of the gameplay; I think that sets us apart form everyone else. We have to build on those things and make sure we stay ahead of the pack. Where we really want to improve is the area of the online experience and make it more interactive and engage with communities around Gran Turismo, because we think the genre lends itself really well to that.”
How much does the release of additional content change the revenue model for the game?
“It’s probably an area where I can’t say too much, I’ll just say its a good question. We’re looking at all sorts of areas for downstream gamer engagement and not just DLC. It’s really as much about providing a sustained engagement for the consumer as it is about making money. Obviously, the company enjoys making money, but you can engage the consumer for months or even years and that is our ultimate aspiration.”
Will there be efforts to monetize the new Gran Turismo mobile apps?
“I don’t think any decisions have been made about monetization of these apps. This is generally an area where we’re getting much more active. Those of you who saw the PS4 announcement or heard about the PS4 apps – i’m not talking about Gran Turismo, but the PS4 app – there will be a PS4 app. Breaking down the old silos and barriers is something that we’re on record as needing to pursue. Having these sorts of companion apps which allow people to continue their engagement with the franchise when they’re not at home or with their console is definitely the way forward.”
The PlayStation Vita is the only Sony platform without a Gran Turismo game – is there any interest in this area?
“There is nothing to report just yet, but we look at all our platforms and love all our children equally, ha!”
Was it a conscious decision to announce GT6 only a few months before its release, unlike GT5? It seemed as if GT5 was announced years and years before it was released, this feels more like ‘we’ve announced it and it’s coming soon.’
“It will be before Christmas [2013], definitely. I think as time passes all developers and publishers get better at these things and learn from past experiences. Announcing a date and having it slip is definitely not something that we want to happen, either on the developer’s side, the publisher’s side, or the consumer’s side. We gave a lot of thought into what the right strategy should be and we’re firmly committed to the GT6 Christmas release date, and we wanted to get it out there well ahead of time so that we can provide a steady stream of marketing updates and get pre-orders started.”
How important is the Gran Turismo franchise to the PlayStation brand?
“It’s very important. The 70 million figure quoted on stage, almost half of those have been sold in Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. We sell a lot of Gran Turismo and we spend a lot of time on the franchise, and for us it is critical to our business and we take it very very seriously.” |

We learned of a new car that MIGHT be coming to GT6 (either on "day one" or as DLC)...the 1953 Aston Martin DB3S Sports. This car won the 2013 Gran Turismo Trophy at this years Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance. It will be rendered for a future GT game. However, we don't know if it will be GT6...we do know that the 2010 award winner, the 1952 Abarth Biposto Bertone BAT1, was not featured in GT5. On the other hand, we could expect to see it in GT6 as part of a DLC pack. We don't know. On another note, Gamescom is being held in Cologne this week, so keep checking back here as lots of interesting new details could be coming out! [ Post merged on Aug 20 2013, 03:13 PM ] Guys....we got a SH*TLOAD of info today on GT6 at Gamescon. First of all, the official box arts have been revealed. Second, a RELEASE DATE OF DECEMBER 6TH, 2013 has been confirmed! Third, a new trailer! Fourth, some new screenshots, highlighting some of the cars shown in the above trailer, along with some new tracks and Photomode locations. You can view the full gallery here. The full list of everything covered in these screenshots: Cars-Abarth 1500 Biposto Bertone B.A.T 1 Concept ’52 -BMW 507 ’57 -BMW Z8 ’01 -Cizeta V16T ’94 -Fisker Karma EcoSport ’12 -Ford Focus ST ’13 -Pagani Huayra ’11 Tracks-Brands Hatch -Apricot Hill Raceway Photomode Locations-Gemasolar -Siracusa – Duomo Square -Ronda – Nuevo bridge -Valencia- The City of Arts and Sciences Fifth, some new online features, and aerodynamics, and other info from the updated Polyphony website. GT6's features have undergone a "major evolution, after having analyzed how our fans play and their feedback throughout the years.” QUOTE | “In Gran Turismo 6, features that were not supported officially in the previous title will now be included: online lobby time trials, drift trials and races with qualifying rounds are just a few examples. Users will also be able to create customised rooms tailored to their favourite play-style and these settings can be saved and shared with others.” |
The "Online" page re-iterates the scale and frequency of updates to the game after the release. QUOTE | In the previous Gran Turismo 5 title, four new locations with 10 tracks layouts were added in the form of DLCs after the game went on sale, including tracks like the Twin Ring Motegi and Spa Francorchamps Circuit.Gran Turismo 6 will continue the tradition and new tracks will be added after the game initial release: there will be more “first-in-the-world” events that will write new pages to the history of the game. Please look forward to reading the details when we’ll make the announcements later on. |
New cars will also be released within the game using an updated system, which will see them available within GT6 car dealerships to purchase immediately after game updates have been issued. Polyphony has also published a complete list of all cars “carried over from Gran Turismo 5” which will appear in GT6. QUOTE | Gran Turismo 6 will contain approximately 1200 cars at time of release, and more and more cars are planned to be added thereafter. Unlike the previous title, the added cars will appear directly in the dealerships after an update, and will be available to purchase in game. You will be able to enjoy driving the newest cars right after they are released in the market. |
The "Technology" page also makes an interesting comment about the new aerodynamics. QUOTE | The down force, lift and air resistance – which continually changes according to the shape of the car – changes in vehicle attitude and its relationship with the ground surface, have all been recreated to a level of precision never seen before. Keen players will probably start to feel the airflow around the car as they drive. |
Sixth, more info has been released about the 15th Anniversary edition, which you can get by simply preordering at Gamestop. The full list of cars included in this special edition is now 25, with special liveries and performance upgrades. The SRT Viper 15th Anniversary edition has been added to the standard preorder car pack, bringing the total of that one to 5 cars. You can see a full gallery of these special cars here. And last but not least, Polyphony has announced special collaborative projects “leading automotive manufacturers, design houses, and other leading global brands”. The creations will be "gifted" as DLC between 2013 and 2014. We don't know specifics yet, but we got hints in the trailer posted above. The list includes: -Alfa Romeo -Alpine -Aston Martin -Audi -BMW -Bertone -GM Design -Honda -Infiniti -Italdesign Giugiaro -JORDAN Brand -Mercedes-Benz -Nike -Nissan -Peugeot -SRT (Chrysler) -Volkswagen -Zagato
