QUOTE (Deskyx @ 13 minutes, 27 seconds ago) | Overrated =/= expensive
Boring =/= bad
I think pencils are boring to write with. Does it mean they're bad at what they do?
Nice job taking my statements out of meaning boi. |
> Overrated =/= expensive
nice job not reading between the lines boi
engines you call "overrated" are widely used for a reason. Not because they're expensive.
> Boring =/= bad
bor·ing ˈbôriNG/ adjective adjective: boring
not interesting; tedious. "I've got a boring job in an office" synonyms: tedious, dull, monotonous, repetitive, unrelieved, unvaried, unimaginative, uneventful; More
do you even know what the word "implying" means?

They're widely used because they're not expensive. They're overrated because people think they're godsends on par with the R26B and should stick it in every single car possible.
Jesus Christ since when did things(aside from entertainment) not becoming interesting means they're crap? Flying on a plane is boring, hell the 737 itself is now boring. Does it diminish its quality as a plane one bit?
Since when did I imply anything but praise to the LSX motors? I said they can do 2000hp easily. Is that not praise?
I will not call you stupid, because you're not. Far from it even, to last this long without beginning to act like an average youtube commenter. But you have been taking my statements completely off meaning.

X is a godsend because of how useful it is. It's cheap, reliable, and easy to maintain. Because of these advantages, it receives a lot of praise and it is widely used by a lot of people around the world.
Should one be an idiot hipster and just pass X up because it's "overrated"? Or should one have make life easier for himself and go with X instead?
I find the concept of calling things "overrated" laughable.

What's wrong with the word should?
Do you know what else is cheap, reliable and easy to maintain? The KA24DE. Why would people swap that out? It's a truck engine sure, but you stated that the whole point of an SR20 is cost effectiveness, reliability, and ease of maintenance. The KA fits all of that. So why swap?
Do you really want to go with X like everybody does? Doing something just for the sake of being unique is what many like to do. If everybody does it, that's means that something isn't bad, obviously.
I do not call it overrated merely for the fact that everybody uses it. Everybody uses pants, they're not overrated. I call something overrated when they are overrated. When they are simply not that good or not as their reputation warrants. The only reason the 4G doesn't completely outclass the SR is that it can't be applied to RWD drivetrains without much fabrication.

From all the blind people I meet in my life I think you're my favorite.
The SR20, not as good as its reputation warrants?
Thanks for making my night.

Reading these engine posts gave me a wasting disease... When I'm not working or resting, A lot of the time I'm working on Nissan engines including RBs and SRs in all trims. The RB's no good unless you can get the oiling issues sussed. All but a few oil pumps are terrible on the RB and most have high failure rates with high rev track duty. It's a nice motor but it's built from antiquated 80s technology and it shows. It's not as good as a 2J. Enjoy cutting every piece of space and possibly into your firewall and chassis to make your engine fit if you're not dropping it into something that can take it stock and then paying GT-R tax on top of that. The SR20 has its oil pick up attached by 4 TACK WELDED spots. Vibration can break those and cause a blown motor situation. It is light though and reasonably easy to work on. What gets stupid is adding custom or big headers/downpipes to a left hand drive car on SRs. There's a steering box going through most of your nicer options. I could go on but you see my point.
All Motors have their good and bad points. There's no point in bashing other people's motors and aggrandizing your own when there's an engine builder somewhere who has made what he wants to make. You pick the motor that works for you, to do what you want and build that. I'm sure somewhere out there there's someone who thinks the RB20 is the greatest motor on earth because they're practically given away as scrap in some places. Not everyone has the money to build the 'best' motor. And not everyone has access to certain motors or parts. So what?

I thought only the R32 RB26s had bad oil pumps.
Aren't 2JZs built from 80s tech as well? Eric Hsu of XS engineering said that any point of using the 2JZ is nulled by the presence of the LS1.
I'm speaking from an armchair enthusiast perspective, naturally someone with on-hand experience would be far more knowledgeable.
My whole argument for the overrated-ness of the SR20 is that there are plenty more alternatives at similar cost. EJs, 4Gs, 3SGs, 2ZZs. Sure all but the 2ZZ is heavier. Sure the SR is the only one that's mounted longitudinal. Hell why consider any of that when the LS exists and you're putting one to a 240SX?

The 911 is an iconic car, of course hot wheels would have it.
