I just had a Peer-vs-Peer game at WMMT-2. I noticed that after taking corners and when one gets left behind from that corner, its easy for him to catch up at the straight. On our next round, this opponent of mine intentionally lets go of the pedal at the middle of the game giving me a 50 meter advantage, as if a mercy round for me. Having the lead, i was shocked that the advantage meter dropped rapidly, with the humiliating fact that i did SLIGHTLY TOUCHED the wall, still it was a considerably fast recovery. Soon after, we crossed the finish line with him in first place. We drove excellent cars, with absolutely the same specs too! I just don't know if that boost thing is really working... and if it does, should that be put off (brake pedal start)... What do you guys have to say...

And hey... don't scrutinize me for my low-level efforts...

pvp battles alwasy used to be boost on, that's because we didn't know how to turn it off. but once we knew it'd be 50/50, some races it was on, some was off. the times it was on was to make it more interesting seeing it's anyone's game.

although there was this one pvp battle of me in my s30z against 3 skylines. boost was off, it was on the 59k race, and first corner i crash hard into the middle barrier (i though it was only open on the left but it was open both left and right) and i see the 3 skylines zoom past me. i think crap i ain't catching up boost is off. but i don't give up, i continue one, get the mileage at least. then somehow i'm catching up. i think part of it was 2 of the skylines were slowing down for each other or something and i burnt pass them and caught up with the lead. i ended up winning but about 50 or so metres. was a good race.

i dont use the boost unless the opponent wants it on... cause if u both have the same hp cars theres no way to tell who has the better skill with it on... on mt1 use to race with it on alo cause no one would race me with it off lol

Not necessarily true. There are some cars that will simply outperform others on places like the Wangan Straight and Hakone with the boost off and with drivers of equal or similar skill level. Though I would agree with you that elsewhere most people's skill makes the difference and the car just makes it easier/harder but doesn't MAKE the time. Personally I think Namco should program slipstreaming into their game so in boost off mode you can still give the trailing car a more realistic speed advantage and add a whole new element of strategy to the game.

I've never heard it called a PEERvsPEER game, I just always called it a PvP (which is not PEERvsPEER, but PLAYERvsPLAYER, I don't know, too many online games I guess).

Anyway, i always step on the break on the handicap screen, and if my opponent does, awesome, but if not, thats fine as well. I can appreciate the skill it takes in both ways to race. I never get mad at somebody for not turning it off.

I always put the brake on in PvP mode.

Some players will oblige me, but many don't...

PvP, well, uhmmm... didnt really know a good way to define it. Well at least, there it is either way... its really fun playing with your peers or a non-AI players. Cool, thanks for the note!!! Because there's no other better competition... than challenging a living one!

As for the boost handicap... I'm taking all these advises to my nutshell!!!

3 Skylines? Cars well known for some nice handling... beaten by a classy S30 after being passed... Now this is the drama of winning I'm looking for! You're Skilled! Two Thumbs Up!!! I wish I was there to watch your game!

Basically all of my friends who r quite familiar wit the game use boost off. I never wanna race with boost on cuz it's not realistic. If u crash, ur fault/ur luck.

But somehow, every time i challenge some newcomers who got 820 BHP, they always asks for boost on. dry.gif

Boost off is too easy these days. I have to go boost on for a challenge, otherwise the others get left behind.

Boost on is fine until someone not deserving of the win beats you by 1m at the finish because of his/her handicap tongue.gif Then it sucks.

Personally though, I'll leave it on in most cases unless everyone else wants it off. It gives a more dramatic feel to the races. No matter how far ahead you are (in most cases, unless the guy really sucks or its just late in the race) you never feel safe, and you always feel the pressure to make the best run possible.

I let the individual choose.
I hold the brake all the time, but if its some cocky noob then I tell him to hold the brake. Then another one bits the dust.

i much much much prefer boost off. in 2 of 3 arcades i play in, most of the people there play boost off (and are freaking good too crying2.gif ). I always step on the brakes though

Mind you, where i play the most (knox cause it's 1.80 v 2 for a game, plus bonus money), it's always boost on. being a more popular arcade, it kinda doesn't suprise me. Being knox, it really doesn't suprise me....

what i hate, however, are people telling you what power to run at because someone else is handicapped by one reason or another. I know it's wrong to go to 700+ when there's someone else at stock, but by the same token, if there's other people with 800hp capable cars in the same rance, dealing with them is a higher priority for me.

That, and them turning your wheel to select the track that "they" want, without asking you. or anyone interfering with the machine while i'm using it.

4 way today with one stock car made me think about this....

i like to race at the same hp as everyone else, or at least the same as the highest hp driver there is. otherwise it's (from now on) my own default of 780hp.

It's not out of the question. I've seen it happen, especially when the lead car crashes into a wall/ traffic near the end. Also it's not that hard to beat lvl 10 ghosts with the stock cars either. The boost does ridiculous things sometimes. Like 600hp discards running up your butt in Yokohane and people who have not completed the Max tune going 680hp with no handling in Hakone and winning. 280 cars have a bit more of a chance than say a 68 hp R2 though...
