39? Or do you mean 59...

Why didn't you try immediately retiring? Or it was too late to retire I can say...

39, as in the 2nd to last chapter of the "R200 Club" arc.

It was too late to retire anyway with under 500m left by the time I realized what was going on.

You mean the stage where the '3 Stooges' R33s tried to box you in towards the finish?
Yeah you can say that was a toughie...especially when 2 of those silly nutheads spun out midway at the Wangan bridge towards Yokohama...

But if I'm correct that chapter doesn't have the Devil Z in it...as well as the Blackbird...do you actually meant stage 40 of the particular story arc in which you mention that you botched your run? huh.gif

Nope, that's Chapter 34 where the R200 club guys try to box you in (first CCR and JAPAN, then JPP). In Chapter 39 your opponents are the Devil Z and Blackbird at NBL, and it's sort of a warm up run before Chapter 40, where the two of them and Kuroki's R33 face off, then the R33 blows its engine.

Shoot! That stinks!

I didn't have any problems with that chapter in the 2nd loop with my Corvette and Trueno......

I think I'll skip the 2nd loop altogether for my Pajero.

Then there's the problem with the MT4 AI players. They seem more intelligent compared to their predecessors form 3/3DX/3DX+.

They love to step on the brakes when you're right behind them.......and of course, they push more aggressively against your vehicle rolleyes.gif

Hence the reason why I feel that the story mode of MT4 is (at minimum) *slightly harder* than 3/3DX/3DX+

There's even a joke that someone told me before
In those three previous versions, you could drive with one hand, drive while talking on the phone, drive while eating and you can win against the AI.

Heck, you could even move the steering wheel with one finger and you would still win.

laugh.gif

But now in MT4, you gotta concentrate even more. In short, lesser room for mistakes.

You were very lucky. I wasn't. When I lost that stage with the Pajero, I was in 1st person mode.

Plus I nearly lost another stage because of the traffic. I noticed that even B rank (which my Pajero is now) produces insanely dense traffic. One level where I entered Wangan after Kiba, there were probably over a DOZEN traffic cars covering all 3 lanes at the bottom of the exit ramp, most of which were VANS! Another stage in Yokohane had a few harrowing moments of TRUCKS at the apex of the yellow turns (a similar scenario at Osaka at the S curve involving a Van was the reason I lost one story mode loop with my RK Coupe).

And another stage at C1, at one of the dividers one of the AI cars squeezed me through and actually caused me to STOP DEAD in the process (as if I hit the divider head on) even when I was already halfway through.

Traffic really gets crazier the higher your rank is! But thankfully I can dodge them easily.

it can be something in racing theories, learn to plan passing the next car while you are passing the current one, in essence, learn to think ahead imo...

Of coz, it is always for saying than doing whistling.gif

but you may actually be able to get used to it... happy.gif

How about blind corners? i.e. you don't see anything until right when you make the turn. Even back in MT3 I felt like tearing my hair out when I go through a Red corner then suddenly I come face to face with not one, not two, but THREE TRUCKS in triangle formation! Something like that cost me a stage in Story Mode back in MT3 (specifically, chapter 80 in DX!), earning me the "First Black Mark" title on the very final chapter mad.gif (happened to my JZA70; fortunately it was a 2nd loop done for the purpose of just leveling up and I already finished the firs loop unshaded).

I understand what you mean here, yeah, especially difficult for HiAce and Pajero (maybe in the 3rd POV) while you see more one, two or three cars occupying each lane.....and just to say, all of a sudden whistling.gif by the way, try your utmost and try to stay focused la....

I have one or two occasions like yours, nearly lost one stage in DX+ for my R33, by then I saw 3 trucks, a pair of twins in the right and middle lanes, the final one was placed , just right after I passed the twins....

I could barely squeeze my R33 through by braking a little (I was passing a left 90 corner in C1, before I turn sharp right and maintained my car after I returned to the straight......

I am personally fine with my Pajero in both POVs, i did have some deadly moments in blind corners like yours, and at one time I played the Ghost Battle in Yaesu....in a middle left corner towards the Shiodome Ramp, I saw two trucks in both lanes lol...just I was able to pass them wink2.gif

I think you could eventually be getting used to the traffic pattern, of coz, I was able to dodge the traffic is all becoz I was too lucky enough to do so....nonetheless, experience sometimes will pay you off....As what I said above, it is always easier to say than you finally be able to do it..........

anyway enjoy your game then happy.gif ....I have taken a look in some of your battles, you are a better player than me, and I have learnt a lot from you guys too

I think what we need is to stay focused while making decision...

for example in Ghost Battles, I always didn't see anything before my car passing the junction to C1 out and Shiodome after running mostly in the Yokohane, and suddenly, you could just see the traffic were pushed to your lane, before you could see which way you are heading to, and how many cars were there in front of you, I did failed a few times, but after that I am able to remain my line by squeezing through traffic and sometimes, to do what I needed to do in the very last moment laugh2.gif (of coz in some occasions would be like, ended up crashing (by heavily crashed in the entrance left turn to C1 out) laugh2.gif

I'm actually quite used to it. Like going in between two trucks! I've pretty much mastered that skill.

And my team leader was looking behind, and was shocked that I passed them without hitting them!

yet experience of you has a lot of doing here happy.gif glad to learn that...but what will you be thinking while you are attempting to pass the traffic ??happy.gif

Well I finally got it on the 2nd try (i.e. 3rd Story Mode loop overall) - the Red Tach for my Pajero. It wasn't without drama though - in fact this was probably the most nerve racking Story Mode quest I've ever done - streets crowded with traffic plus the crazy AI cars - my most harrowing moments involved the AI either nudging me into a traffic car (eg getting sent into the back of a truck or van - happened almost every chapter), or "throwing" one at my face (the Devil Z actually bounced an R2 right at me at a race in C1; luckily I dodged), nearly causing a loss.

I will pass no matter what. Precision ho!

The AI hitting cars at me only happened once, and that was when I hit it. Other times I managed to dodge them.

Whew! One ghost battle scared the hell out of me and showed me another potential risk that could make me lose in story mode: Jumps. During one run with my Pajero at Mirai/Yokohama while doing another JAPAN challenge loop I went through a jump - and landed SMACK right on the back of a van (which I could not avoid of course as a result of being airborne), and subsequently rebounded right into a barrier, causing me to stop DEAD. Good thing I raced against a "dummy" ghost so even if it passed me in the process, I got back ahead of it in no time. But if this happened to me in Story Mode... ohmy.gif

I drove one back in 3DX+, can't remember much about it though. I found that it was a bit underwhelming compared to the Evo 6.

But I gave it away to a friend.
