Make sure you're gripping the wheel's tubing; after a turn, release your grip and let it slide back to neutral. I mentioned this in another thread - it's useful for Automatic, especially where your footwork starts to factor in majorly.
Another suggestion, for both Auto and Manual, is to get a fix on where you want to go in the game (like that down the road toward that building), and reorient yourself towards that destination. Simply put, try keeping the car pointed down the road between the walls - not towards the walls; you want to win, not lose while causing massive traffic jams.
As for the footwork, using the gas instead of the brakes can help to keep your speed up; however, doing so raises the possibility of you sliding around. It's all about friction - the wheels turning against the ground (namely when you're jamming the gas) creates friction that makes it difficult to turn; subsequently, letting off the gas (and freezing the wheels) makes it easier to slide/turn around corners. For Automatic, this is absolutely critical; for Manual, it helps significantly.

QUOTE (Chris190e16V @ Today at 7:13 PM) | I say for new guys on this map try using your left foot for the break pedal and try down shifting to slow down |
well some red turns you dont need to brake at all and just left off the throttle a little bit and slide through.

nah the acceleration is what befalls the R2 in hakone. sure it might have godly handling, but that doesnt mean you dont need speed. thats why the RX series are good at it. because they have handling, but not that speed in the higher gears, not that you really need it on hakone...
